Chapter 98: Knowing The Truth
After sending Geoffrey and Roxanne home, Theodore also turned his feet towards the barracks occupied by the group led by Victor, as usual. He was very familiar with this barracks because of the number of times he had come here.
"Although it’s not as crowded as before, this place seems to have quite a few people," Theodore muttered while nodding at the few passing soldiers who greeted him.
Then, Theodore’s steps were stopped by a soldier he recognized as one of Roderick’s direct subordinates. Seeing himself stopped by the soldier, Theodore thought that either Roderick or Victor must be looking for him.
"What’s wrong?" Without further ado, Theodore immediately asked why the soldier had called him.
"What a coincidence that you’re already here. The Captain called you and told you to meet him immediately!" The soldier was pleased to see that Theodore was already at the barracks, so he didn’t have to bother picking Theodore up again.
"I see. Thank you for telling me." Theodore waved his hand at the soldier, then resumed his steps to Victor’s room as usual.
. . .
This time, Theodore was not in Victor’s room; he was immediately taken to the barracks dungeon when he had just arrived at Victor’s room earlier. Theodore didn’t even know that this barracks had its own prison.
"Why did you ask me to follow you to this place, captain?" Theodore was still trying to understand why Victor had asked him to come here. fɾeewebnoveℓ.co๓
Isn’t a place like this usually not allowed to be visited by anyone. That’s why Theodore was still wondering why he, an outsider, was allowed to enter this prison.
"We need to discuss something with you." Victor only answered Theodore’s question briefly.
"Huh?" Theodore was even more confused after hearing Victor’s words. What did they need to discuss together?
Victor remained silent and no longer answered Theodore’s questions; he just focused on passing through hallway after hallway of the prison, which felt like a maze.
Theodore realized that and needed to find out if he could escape this prison if he had been left there. This dungeon felt so vast that Theodore thought they had been going around in circles for a long time.
But Theodore didn’t dare voice this to Victor. He could sense that his Captain was not in a good mood, so Theodore didn’t want to test his luck today.
Finally, after fifteen minutes of Victor taking Theodore around, they arrived where Victor wanted to go.
Theodore didn’t know what to call the room they entered. It could not be called a prison cell because it was very closed and had no iron bars.
Then, after entering the room deeper, Theodore could finally say what the place he entered was. It was the interrogation room, or, rather, the room behind the interrogation room.
So, Theodore could see the man called Big Brother by the Cataclysm Brotherhood group behind the glass. Theodore had often seen something like this in movies, so he could confirm that the person in the opposite room was unaware of his presence in this room.
"Captain, why did you bring me to watch you interrogate that person?" Again, Theodore was still curious about why Victor had brought him here.
This is especially true now that Theodore realizes Victor’s intention, which seems to want him to see the results of the interrogation of the man he had fought before.
"Will you shut up?! Watch and listen to what he says!" Victor glared sharply at Theodore to silence his very talkative mouth.
Hearing Victor’s angry voice, Theodore immediately fell silent and did not say anything else. He only focused on paying close attention to the ongoing interrogation.
Behind the glass, there, Roderick interrogated the man from the Cataclysm Brotherhood; un. Theodore still needed to learn the Hamman’s name. How long have you been hiding that zombie inside your base?" Roderick, who usually looks cold, now seemed dangerous. His face was really cold and intimidating.
"You think I’d just tell you that?" The man smirked at Roderick, looking at him with a dismissive gaze.
Roderick wordlessly got up from his position and, with a quick movement, slammed his fist against the man’s jaw.
"Melvin, remember this, I don’t mind playing with you all day here," Roderick said with a cold glint.
Theodore, who saw Roderick’s actions from the other side, was quite surprised. Indeed, an interrogation like this would be decorated with violence to open the criminal’s mouth. But Theodore didn’t think that Roderick would be cruel enough to finish off the man whose name turned out to be Melvin.
Roderick continued to beat Melvin until he was gasping for air. Roderick threw Melvin’s body back into the interrogation chair and asked his question again.
"Tell me, when did you hide those zombies?" This time, Roderick asked while firmly gripping Melvin’s jaw.
"Woe!" Melvin looked at Roderick sharply. He stomped on Roderick’s grip on his jaw.
Then, Melvin was seen spitting out blood-filled saliva to the side. He then turned to Roderick, who was still standing nearby.
"I’ve been hiding them there since the zombies appeared," said Melvin, finally answering Roderick’s question.
"Alright. Then, you’re not the leader of that Cataclysm Brotherhood group, and from what I know, your leader suddenly disappeared, so where exactly did your leader go?" Roderick continued his action to pry more information from Melvin. freewebnovёl.ƈom
Melvin looked at Roderick sharply, not wanting to answer that question but knowing what would happen to him if he didn’t answer it.
"Why else would you cover this up? Everyone in your group is dead. The only thing you can do is answer this question of mine," Roderick continued while grinning dismissively at Melvin.
Hearing that Melvin’s emotions had heated up, he really wanted to finish off this person in front of him, but he couldn’t do it because both his hands and feet were tied to the floor.
To add more fire to Melvin’s heart, Roderick lightly patted Melvin’s cheek, saying, "If you want to make your friends’ deaths count, answer my question."
Melvin gritted his teeth hard. He was really fed up and helpless. What Roderick said to him was true. Melvin finally sighed and tried to answer the question.
"Actually, the zombies we hid in the base were members of the group who became zombies when the day of judgment came. One of those who turned into a zombie was the chief." Melvin explained what happened with his head bowed.
"I deliberately told the surviving members to kill people so that we could feed the chairman and the others." Melvin then said his reason for killing around the north gate area.
