Chapter 84: The Reason

Theodore felt his heart beat faster when he heard dogs barking in the distance. Evil thoughts immediately filled Theodore’s mind, and without thinking, his feet started running towards the school building.

Theodore summoned his sword from the sacred dimension when no one was around. He immediately caught up with Roderick and Cassian, who were already inside the school building.

But before that, Theodore warned the others to stay guard around the truck because many of them were injured, and someone had to look after them.

"You better stay here. I will catch up with the others to see how they’re doing." After saying that, Theodore immediately walked away from there.

The people Theodore left behind looked at him worriedly. They were worried about Roderick and Cassian, but they also knew that Theodore’s situation was not too good either.

"He must know what he’s doing. While they’re gone, we should take care of ourselves here." Chelsea decided to speak up so that the others could calm down.

Although Chelsea herself was a little worried about Theodore’s condition—he must be very exhausted considering what he had done—she knew that the doctor understood her capacity best.

"Are you sure they’ll be okay, Chelsea?" Winsor, who didn’t go with Cassian, knew they could rely on Chelsea while the others were gone.

"Take it easy. They’re great people. They’ll get through it even if something happens," Chelsea replied confidently.

Even though she was injured, Chelsea also helped the soldiers keep a night watch around their truck to ensure its safety. freewebnovёl.ƈom

While Theodore was already inside the school building, he had just entered there and immediately felt goosebumps. The atmosphere inside the building was more tense than outside.

Theodore remembered the horror stories often told by seniors to scare their juniors. Unfortunately, Theodore knew that the most likely thing that would appear here were zombies instead of ghosts.

Though Theodore would gladly choose to see ghosts rather than having to fight with those damn zombies.

"Shit! I don’t know where they are." Theodore felt stupid when he impulsively ran here, even though he had no idea where Roderick and Cassian were.

Amid his confusion, Theodore’s earlobe twitched when he heard hurried footsteps approaching him.

He didn’t know whether the people approaching him were friends or enemies. Theodore raised his sword, ready if he had to fight now.

Amid the tension, Theodore heard the door slamming against the wall loudly. The sound was deafening in the quiet night, and Theodore was shocked when he heard it.

But what was more surprising was the figure that emerged from behind the door. Theodore could see Roderick and Cassian’s entourage running from behind the door, their faces panicked and sweat dripping.

Roderick, leading the way, immediately shouted when he saw Theodore near the exit, "Theodore, come out now!"

Even though Theodore didn’t understand what was going on, he did as Roderick said, and he was good enough to hold the glass door so that the others could get out smoothly.

"Cassian, hurry up and build a barrier!" After they had left the school building, Roderick immediately ordered Cassian to hurry.

Theodore could see that Cassian was just as panicked as Roderick; he could even see Cassian’s hands shaking as he prepared to use his powers.

Due to Cassian’s shaken mental state, he couldn’t use his power effectively. The iron barrier wall he made was formed a long time ago.

"Gosh, why is it that my power is even like this at a time like this?" Cassian was very upset at this moment; He didn’t expect his power to act at a crucial time like this.

At that moment, when Cassian’s barrier wall had only covered half the door, Theodore saw the silhouette of a massive dog with red eyes and drool dripping from its mouth.

The crazed looking dog bared its fearsome fangs and started barking as it ran towards the door in front of them.

"No way!" Theodore widened his eyes when he saw the figure of the mad dog; he hadn’t expected to see that creature in this place.

Cassian and the others’ faces also looked even paler when they saw the dog’s figure. Fortunately, Cassian was able to complete his barrier wall and prevent the mad dog from leaving the school building.

The group just exited the school building and immediately sat on the ground with dark faces. They looked like someone who had just experienced a traumatic event.

Theodore patted Cassian’s shoulder lightly. "You did well," he said, clearly seeing how Cassian’s hand was shaking now.

Cassian didn’t react much; he just nodded his head. He was like that naturally because he had just experienced a life-and-death situation, let alone the fate of many lives in his hands at that moment.

Feeling that Cassian needed time alone, Theodore chose to go to Roderick. Roderick, being a soldier, was used to going through life and death conditions, so Theodore knew that his mental state was much more stable than Cassian’s.

"How are you?" Theodore first ensured the mutated mad dog did not injure his soldier friend.

"Just exhausted after almost dying." As expected, Roderick looked more stable and could talk casually to Theodore.

"Can you explain what happened inside? That dog doesn’t look like an ordinary dog," Theodore said later.

Thanks to the knowledge he gained from his previous life, Theodore knew that the mad dog had mutated thanks to the zombie virus that spread. However, the others needed to learn this, so Theodore intended to ask Roderick first.

"There are many animals like that in there! Even the little mice have turned into really creepy ones," Roderick explained with a shudder. He still couldn’t believe what he had seen.

"No wonder there are no zombies around this place. It’s a good thing you guys made it out safely," Theodore replied with relief.

Theodore could tell that Roderick and the others were fortunate because the presence of mutated animals was more dangerous at this early stage of the apocalypse. Especially considering that there were many mutated animals inside that school building.

"I have to report this to the captain later. Can you help me testify later?" Roderick knew Victor’s character very well; the captain would not believe this discovery if no other witnesses saw it.

"No problem. We have to get back to base when the sun rises. This place is not safe." Theodore knew that the barrier wall Cassian had built wouldn’t be able to hold off the mutated animals in the long run.

They had to leave before the mutated animals left the school building.
