Chapter 79: Facing The Problem
Theodore wasn’t too worried about the zombies downstairs because the current zombies were still in the early stages, so they wouldn’t be too aggressive, and their intelligence had yet to develop. freeweɓnovel.cѳm
But, just in case, he ordered Neville to pay attention to the movement of the zombies downstairs.
Roderick was the first to try the slide Cassian had made for them. Everyone was watching Roderick slide into the truck bed. They were anxious because they had to rack their brains if this method didn’t work.
"The slide is working great! The others can get off soon!" Roderick immediately shouted to report his situation when he was already inside the truck.
"Stay alert, Roderick; we’ll send the others down there!" Theodore immediately responded to Roderick’s words.
Theodore turned to Winsor and the two soldiers Roderick had chosen, "You guys can slide down now. We can’t linger." Theodore immediately told them to slide down.
"Please keep an eye on us from above," Winsor said before climbing onto the slide Cassian had made. Honestly, he was still scared.
"Don’t worry, we’ll protect you from up here," Theodore replied soothingly.
With that, Winsor and the two soldiers slid down, following Roderick, who was already waiting for them.
After ensuring their safety in the truck, it was their luggage’s turn to be sent down there. Theodore instructed the others to roll the iron bars they had gotten down the slide.
Since Winsor, who had the power of telekinesis, was already down there, they didn’t have to worry about the iron bars hurting the people down there.
The people still at the top were busy rolling the iron and metal they had gotten. They had to catch up with time, and it would be hazardous for them to move at night.
So, as much as possible, they had to solve the problem of moving this stuff as quickly as possible before nightfall.
As Theodore was busy helping the others transport the goods, he felt someone approaching him. When he turned around, he could see Cassian there. Theodore chose to leave the task to the others and walked over to Cassian.
"Is there a problem with the zombies below?" Theodore was only worried about the zombies gathering downstairs.
"That is one of them. I don’t know why they’re slowly trying to make their way upstairs. Shouldn’t they not be able to do that?" Cassian looked very anxious as he spoke.
"Really?" Theodore couldn’t believe what Cassian was saying.
How could those zombies already think of climbing stairs when they hadn’t even gone through their first evolution. Theodore remembered that it took several months for the zombies to evolve and become stronger.
They shouldn’t be able to do something like that at this early age, but Theodore had to check on this matter.
"Can I entrust the matter here to you? If you can speed up the transfer of this stuff when everything has been transferred to the truck, immediately organize the others to go downstairs; I will see the zombies." Theodore also left the problem there to Cassian. freeωebnovēl.c૦m
"Be careful, I’ll tell Neville to go with you." Cassian nodded his head in understanding with Theodore’s order.
Theodore returned to the stairs connecting the first and second floors with Neville. They had to observe the movement of the zombies down there.
Besides that, Theodore also wanted to see for himself what those damn zombies had actually done. Only after Theodore got there he understood what Cassian meant earlier.
It turned out that the zombies on the lower floor could slowly rise to the upper floor because they collided. The zombies in front fell down, and the zombies in the back stepped on the front to continue walking forward.
It was only a matter of time before the zombies reached the second floor. Theodore gritted his teeth in annoyance. He had not thought this through. He didn’t expect these zombies to be able to do something like this.
"Gosh, I didn’t expect them to be like that," Neville said in surprise when he saw what was happening there.
Neville was starting to feel scared now. He. He didn’t think the zombies could actually go upstairs. At first, Neville felt that Theodore was just too worried about the zombies on the first floor, but after seeing what happened, he began to worry and fear.
What would they do if the zombies reached the second floor? Just thinking about it made Neville’s legs tremble with fear.
"Do you have a firearm?" Theodore turned to Neville, who was hiding behind him.
"I don’t have one, but Cassian seems to," Neville said, shaking his head.
"Then can you tell the others that I want to borrow their firearms," Theodore replied seriously.
Theodore couldn’t reduce the number of zombies with his sword now. He needed a long-range weapon to slow down their movement to reach this second floor, and now he needed the soldiers’ firearms.
"Alright, I’ll get it for you right away!" Neville hurriedly went to where the others were gathered to get a firearm for Theodore.
For now, Theodore could only wait there while continuing to monitor the strange movements of the zombies on the first floor.
Time passed, and now the zombies had climbed three-fourths of the stairs; soon, they would reach the second floor. If the zombies reached the second floor, it would be difficult for Theodore to hold them all back.
The staircase connecting the two floors was vast, and the zombies filled it. Theodore would also break out in a cold sweat if he had to handle that many zombies.
As Theodore looked back at Neville, he saw a big smile on his face, and he wondered what good news the young man had brought this time.
However, when Neville got closer to Theodore and saw the zombies’ movement, his face instantly turned pale.
"Big brother, you don’t have to worry. Almost everyone is safe in the truck. There are only five people left." Neville immediately explained the other current situation.
"Very good. If only for a moment, I can hold them off," Theodore said with a smirk as he picked up Neville’s firearm.
Just as Neville was about to speak, Theodore abruptly cut off his words.
"Now, you go back and hurry down to the truck. I’ll stand guard here alone." Theodore checked the bullets in his firearm and exited his hiding place to fire at the zombies.
"But, what about you?!" Neville hesitantly stood far behind Theodore.
"Don’t think about me, just go!" Theodore shouted at Neville to tell him to leave quickly, as it would have been difficult to escape if Neville had been here.
Inevitably, Neville ran away from there and left Theodore alone, who was now focusing on shooting at the zombies who began to speed up their pace to get to the second floor.
