Chapter 55: Trick the Zombie!
In his two lives, Theodore had never seen a zombie evolve like the giant zombie in this hospital. So, Theodore felt he had to see what the zombie could do before he could determine how to deal with it.
This time, Theodore and the others were already in the long corridor where they had found the giant zombie. From a distance, they could smell a solid foul odor; Theodore could tell that this odor was more substantial than before.
I don’t know what the zombie was doing, but this time, the stench was unbearable. Theodore could even hear some of the people around him start coughing and looking nauseous as if they wanted to vomit up the rations they had eaten that morning.
"What on earth are these zombies doing that they can create such a foul odor!" Victor cursed loudly at the foul odor that bothered his nose.
Even someone like Victor was complaining about the stench caused by the zombies. Theodore had already covered his nose because he couldn’t stand the stench.
"Captain, it’ll be hard for us to fight the zombies if there’s this disgusting smell!" Even a severe and stern person like Roderick frowned. The look on his face was not pleasing to the eye.
Then, the other soldiers began to agree with Roderick’s words and were bothered by this powerful stench.
"No matter whether or not there’s a stench, we still have to move forward to save Doctor Christopher. Close your noses, and don’t complain anymore!" Victor shouted angrily while glaring at his subordinates, forcing them to shut up.
Victor was already annoyed enough with the stench. His anger would sooner or later explode if his subordinates continued to complain to him about their current situation.
Instantly, they were silent and just resignedly covered their noses and continued. The closer they got to the place where the giant zombie was, the stench got worse, and they also heard creepy growls.
"Slow down," Victor said, warning the others.
Because he became one of the humans who gained power after awakening, all of Victor’s senses automatically became superior to ordinary humans. The passive abilities this awakened human possessed really helped his military performance.
While Theodore, who was at the back of the line, could only ask the system about what was happening before him, he was curious but refused to come forward.
Honestly, Theodore was already too lazy to be used as a sacrifice by military people. He wanted to see the performance of others so that he could adjust. It would be bad if someone would later be suspicious of Theodore’s strength if he looked more potent than the awakened people.
"System, is there something strange about that giant zombie?" Theodore silently asked the system.
[There was nothing strange; he was sitting there enjoying his meal]
"The food?" Theodore frowned as he tried to understand what the system meant.
What could be used as food by a nearly two-meter-tall zombie with a huge swollen body, not to mention the green and black mixed-colored slime around its disgusting-looking body?
[The giant zombie has mutated because it ate the other zombies on the second floor. Didn’t the host see it before?]
"Huh? Did she eat that zombie? I thought he didn’t eat zombies!" Only now did Theodore realize why there were many zombie corpses around the giant zombie.
It turned out that he did prey on other zombies. This made it hard for Theodore’s brain to process this information.
[Beware of that giant zombie host. He doesn’t just eat humans but even zombies. He will be very aggressive once his food runs out]
Theodore unconsciously shuddered as he heard the system’s words. His hunch about the giant zombie was not wrong. And it seems that this time, the others are still in shock when they see many zombie bodies around the giant zombie.
"Bastard! This zombie is crazy!" Victor held back his voice to keep it from getting too loud and disturbing the giant zombie.
"Captain, that zombie doesn’t seem to care about us being here. Is it okay if we walk right past it?" Roderick, who was next to Victor, began to voice his thoughts.
"Either way, we should try it." Victor then looked back to see his subordinates.
Seeing Victor staring at them one by one made the soldiers and the people who woke up avoid that gaze as much as possible. They felt that they would be doomed if they met Victor’s eyes!
Meanwhile, Theodore, who was at the back of the line, didn’t understand anything. He just stayed where he was as Victor stared at him.
The silence tormented the soldiers and the others. They waited anxiously for Victor’s orders, praying that Victor would not call their names.
Until Victor finally made a sound and called someone, the others silently held their breath while listening to who the unlucky person was called by Victor this time.
"Hey, you’re the kid fishing for zombies yesterday. Come here!" Finally, Victor decided to call Theodore and tell him to come to him.
The others quickly opened the way so that Theodore could easily walk towards where Victor was. They were relieved that Victor had not chosen them to be the sacrifice. frёewebnoѵel.ƈo๓
Secretly, they also prayed for Theodore that he would not be harmed by being used as an experimental material by their captain.
Theodore, who knew nothing, just walked towards Victor calmly, although he was too lazy to deal with people like him.
"Do you need me to do something, Captain?" Theodore immediately asked why Victor had called him here. freeweɓnovēl.coɱ
Theodore really couldn’t stand this stench. One of the reasons he chose to be at the back of the line was to avoid it.
"You see that giant zombie just sitting there and not doing anything. I want you to try to walk past it and see what happens," Victor explained seriously to Theodore.
Now Theodore finally knew what the stares given by the other soldiers meant when he passed by earlier. It turned out that they already knew that he would be used as a sacrifice by this damn Victor.
"I’ll do it. It’s just that I want you to do something for me, captain." Because he had gotten this golden opportunity, Theodore was not going to waste it.
Victor looked unhappy with what Theodore said. How could this new kid dare to give conditions when he had given orders? Although Victor wanted to be angry, he held back because he really needed this young man to check the situation around the giant zombie.
"Alright, say what you want!" With his heavy voice, Victor said half-heartedly, unwilling to agree to Theodore’s words.
Hearing Victor agree to listen to his words, Theodore secretly grinned triumphantly.
