Chapter 173: Heavy Traffic
Theodore and the others took about 10 hours to reach the downtown area. The base was already very close, but Theodore could see that many other cars intended to enter it.
Theodore didn’t know why these people didn’t immediately enter the base but instead spread out on the streets leading to it. Since there were many cars there, Theodore could see that the number of zombies around the streets was not too many.
"Looks like these guys have killed most of the zombies here," Chelsea said as she looked around her crowded surroundings.
"But why are they still here and not going into the base?" Theodore finally said, the curiosity that was bothering his head.
"I don’t know. There’s definitely something wrong at the base, and it’s making these people stay here," Chelsea replied, shrugging her shoulders indifferently. freeweɓnovēl.coɱ
Curious about what happened at the base, Theodore also looked back to see Nevill, who was already lying in his room. She had remained on guard. For the past ten hours, she had been ready to shoot the zombies that got in their way.
"Can you still do something for me?" Even though Theodore could see Neville’s limp, he still asked him this. ƒree𝑤ebnσvel.com
"It’s crazy if I can still do something right now!" Neville shot a deadly glare at Theodore. He couldn’t believe Theodore could still ask him to do something now.
"No wonder you’re tired," Theodore replied, nodding casually.
Theodore still casually took out a bowl of cherry tomatoes from his sacred dimension and placed it next to Neville, "Eat that and replenish your strength. We still need your strength," Theodore said later.
Neville’s eyes lit up when he saw Theodore giving him a bowl of cherry tomatoes; he no longer complained to Theodore and began to enjoy his favorite cherry tomatoes.
Meanwhile, Theodore turned to Chelsea who was sitting beside him, "I’ll go down and ask Madeline. Hold the wheel of this car while I’m gone," Theodore said then.
"Huh?! Are you going down?" Chelsea was surprised to hear Theodore say he intended to get out of the car.
"We can’t find any information if we stay in the car. I’m sure Madeline has a way to communicate with the people inside the base; that way, we can get information about what’s going on there," Theodore explained as he prepared to get out of the car.
"Then be careful. Although there are only a few zombies outside, they are still on the loose," Chelsea replied, worried about Theodore.
"No problem, I know how to take care of myself. You guys be careful too; don’t open the door for anyone but me," said Theodore, giving his advice before deciding to get out of the car.
After that, Theodore also walked out of the car while holding a sword in his hand. He was ready to kill zombies who dared approach him; fortunately, the surrounding conditions were still conducive.
Theodore quickly walked towards the car that Madeline and her friends were traveling in. Fortunately, when Theodore knocked on their window, Madeline swiftly opened the car door and let Theodore inside.
"What are you doing here? What about the two people in your car?" A confused Madeline quickly bombarded Theodore with questions.
"Take it easy. They’re fine in the car," Theodore replied while frowning unhappily.
"Thank goodness. I wondered what was wrong, so why did you stop your car? We need to get back to base as soon as possible," Madeline retorted, still not understanding why Theodore would make them stop in the middle of the road like this.
"That’s what I wanted to ask you. There are many other cars ahead, and not only are they scattered on the roads that lead to the base, but they didn’t go there and chose to stop here." Theodore began to explain the situation around them.
"I saw them too, but I think they just happened to stop," Madeline replied, thinking about the situation.
"Can you communicate with the people inside the base? I’m worried that something bad is happening inside the base," Theodore said and then decided to tell Madeline about his worries.
Madeline was silent at that moment. She was unsure if she should tell Theodore about her secret or not.
"We can’t stay here forever. You know that we only have one scroll of magic left to survive. Not only that but there are only a few hours left before nightfall. It will be difficult for us to survive in the streets full of zombies like this," Theodore said, then explained that their situation was not very good.
After hearing that, Madeline sighed and finally decided to tell the secret she had not said.
"Actually, we still can’t use communication devices. So we can’t contact people from inside the base," Madeline said finally. This was the base’s embarrassing incompetence.
Madeline tried her best not to tell the truth but had to tell the others because their situation was not very good.
"You’re not lying or hiding anything from me?" Theodore did not believe that the military had no means of communication with each other.
"We have a means of communication, but it’s short-range short-range. It won’t be able to connect from this far away," Madeline replied, shaking her head weakly. She felt helpless at the moment.
"Inevitably, we will have to seek information from the people around here," Theodore said. There was no solution at the moment other than asking people around this place first to find out what happened.
"Alright, I’ll help you find the information. But we can’t just leave the car. Those bastards outside will look for opportunities to steal from us," Madeline replied seriously.
"Yes, just two or three people should go out to look for information. The rest should stay in the car." Theodore nodded his head in agreement.
After planning the issue of who would go out for information, Theodore decided to go out first and walked towards the cars in front of them; he intended to find out what happened there.
Fortunately, there were many people wandering around on the streets, waiting for something outside their cars. Theodore decided to approach them and ask.
"What are you waiting for here that you’re jamming the road to the base like this?" Theodore said with a sharp tone.
That way, those people wouldn’t look at him quickly. Theodore already knew that people in this apocalypse world would attack you if you looked weak or were easy to lie to.
"Who are you to be so angry at us?"
"Just go to the base if you want. I’m sure you’ll get eaten by zombies!"
"He doesn’t even know what’s happening, but he’s just mad at us!"
Theodore could understand that the gate into the base was in trouble.
