Chapter 57: Basketball And The Balcony

Liam stood before them, clad head to toe in black.

His muscles had swelled even larger than the last time she saw him, stretching the fabric of his sweatpants and compression shirt.

Ink adorned his arms, visible beneath his sleeves and creeping up his neck and back.

He got tattooed, two full-sleeved tattoos, due to the shirt he was wearing, Anastasia could not tell if those tattoos reached his whole torso or not.

His once-flowing long hairlocks had been chopped into a buzzcut, and he wore an ostentatious watch and chain.

His skin color seemed darker than before, rendering him almost unrecognizable.

Anastasia caught the sight of Liam, but the latter didn’t spare her a glance.

She literally could not believe her eyes right now, Liam was here right before her eyes on the Luna pack’s Lan.

Liam did not seem surprised at all, as if he knew she was going to be there.

As usual, although Anastasia was so shocked to find him, her face held no clear emotion on it.

She just stood there, looking at him silently, internally trying to process the fact that he is real.

The pain of rejection instantly pressed her chest, reminding her of the gruesome thing that she had done to her fated mate to make him reject her and leave.

Xavier beamed and gestured towards her. "Oh, Alpha, meet Liam, my older brother. And Liam, this is Anastasia Rain, I believe you already know who she is. The head alpha of the Midnight pack. The same pack where you Eliot."

Eliot is one of the men that Xavier was sent to search for Liam all these years.

Understanding dawned on Anastasia as she recognized the resemblance between Xavier and Liam.

Oh, this is why she felt strange when she saw Xavier’s face earlier, the latter and Liam have some similarities, she just could not notice them earlier because Liam was not there for her to be able to compare.

And apparently, Xavier has no idea about what she had done to Liam, because if he did, there would have been no way, he would accept this alliance with someone who had hurt his brother, not only that also, he would have asked Anastasia to come here either.

So Liam has not told anybody, neither did she.

"Liam." When Alex called his name out, all eyes turned to the little kid who had a huge smile on his face and sparkles is happiness in his eyes.

Liam’s face lit up as the little boy let go of his sister/mother’s hand and rushed into his arms, only for Liam to bend over and open his arms ready to catch him.

"Oh, you guys already know each other?" Xavier chimed in, enjoying the moment.

Liam caught Alex and lifted him up to the air before hugging him in his arms, meeting his brother’s gaze. "Yeah, I used to work in the packhouse. Alex is my little friend."

Anastasia remained silent since Liam’s arrival, observing as Caleb and Philip approached him with questions about his sudden disappearance.

Liam replied with a smile, explaining he had found his family, and embraced them both, still cradling Alex in his arms.

Anastasia couldn’t help but feel a pang of concern as she saw Alex nestled in Liam’s arms. ƒreewebηoveℓ.com

If she were in Liam’s shoes she would hate the fact that she is here, and holding a kid that belongs to someone who hurt her the same way she did to Liam, would not be a very pleasant experience.

"Alex, leave Liam alone, please. Don’t bother him." She requested gently, though she knew Alex’s stubbornness all too well, resigning herself to letting him have his way for now.

"As for your question, Liam," Xavier interjected smoothly, his smile unwavering.

"I’m not alone here as you can see, and I need to show Anastasia the damages in our borders. Since you are here now, can we continue?"

Liam nodded, still engaged in a quiet conversation with the little boy in his arms.

As Anastasia and Xavier delved into discussions about the recent attack, they walked the borders of Xavier’s pack, Liam, Caleb, and Philip following close behind.

They studied the damage together, Xavier explaining how the intruder pack that had been attacking them had taken over a lot of areas around their pack ground, and Xavier could feel that their pack was definitely next.

Anastasia’s brows furrowed with concern at this new revelation. "Do you know who they are?"

"They don’t have a name," Xavier replied solemnly. "Some call them the Bloodlust Pack. Fifteen years ago, there was a rogue, male alpha who formed a small rogue pack and took over the Lotus Pack. Nobody paid much attention then, because the Lotus pack was very small and basically irrelevant, but the Bloodlust Pack kept expanding, taking over more and more territories. They now control the entire north and west, and their goal now is the north and the east—your pack’s territory and mine." ƒrēewebnoѵёl.cσm

A heavy silence settled over them as Anastasia and her companions processed this alarming information.

Deciding on a course of action, Anastasia proposed, "Starting from tomorrow, both packs’ warriors will start training together. It’s urgent for the safety of our packs."

As Anastasia discussed the training plan with Philip and Caleb, her gaze drifted to Liam, who remained engrossed in conversation with her little brother/son, still cradling him in his arms.

Liam must be so mature, he did not treat Alex any differently because of what she had done to him.

As Anastasia woke from her sleep, she felt an unusual wave of energy running through her veins.

Maybe it’s because of the fact that she is not in her pack which means she does not have any responsibilities to do today.

The early morning light gently filtered through the curtains, casting a soft glow across her bedroom.

With a yawn, she rose from her bed and made her way to the balcony, drawn by the sounds of excitement echoing from below.

There, on the court below, Liam was already in the midst of a spirited game of basketball.

They have a mini basketball field in the packhouse’s ground.

The cool morning breeze tousled Liam’s hair as he effortlessly dribbled the ball down the court, his movements fluid and precise.

His laughter rang out as he leaped into the air, executing a flawless layup that sent the ball swishing through the net.

Anastasia watched from the balcony, her heart swelling with a mixture of pride and envy.

It was a strange sensation, seeing Liam so carefree and happy, surrounded by both men and women, who were probably his friends who cheered him on with enthusiasm.

She couldn’t help but feel a pang of jealousy at the sight, wishing she could be down there with him, basking in the warmth of his joy.

She does not play basketball, and also the second reason why she can not join him is obvious.

She already feels how bothered he is by her presence in the same pack as him, and although their broken mate bond and the rejection pain keep drawing her to him, she will try to keep her distance from him so that she does not make it worse than it already is.

As Anastasia watched from the balcony, she could hear snippets of lively banter drifting up from the court below.

Liam’s deep laughter mingled with the voices of his friends, creating a harmonious symphony of joy.

"Nice shot, Liam! You are on fire today," one of his friends exclaimed, clapping him on the back as they jogged down the court.

Liam grinned, his eyes sparkling with amusement. "Thanks, but don’t get too comfortable. I’m just getting warmed up."

A group of people on the sidelines who were watching the game, cheered as Liam made another impressive shot, their playful teasing ringing out through the air.

"Wow, Liam, is there anything you can’t do?" one of the players called out, her laughter infectious.

Liam chuckled, his cheeks flushing slightly at the attention. "Hey, I’ve got my moments. But don’t worry, I’ll let you win next time."

Despite the friendly competition, there was an undeniable sense of friendship that filled the air, binding Liam and the players aka his friends together in shared laughter and good-natured ribbing.

As the game progressed, Anastasia could not help but smile lightly at the scene unfolding below.

It was clear that Liam was in his element, surrounded by friends who cared for him deeply.

He genuinely seemed so happy and healthy compared to how he was back in the Midnight pack.

And as she watched him play, his laughter echoing through the morning air, she could not shake the feeling of warmth that filled her heart.

Although he rejected her, she could still feel the bond, it was broken but it was still there.

As the game came to an end, Liam and his friends exchanged high-fives and playful banter, their laughter filling the air.

With a final wave to the group, Liam made his way towards the entrance of the pack house, which is when his gaze met Anastasia’s as he climbed the steps.

"Alright, see you guys later," he called out to his friends who waved at him while leaving the pack house ground, his eyes never leaving Anastasia’s balcony.

Their eyes locked for a moment, a silent exchange passing between them before Liam turned away, heading back inside.

Anastasia watched him go, a faint smile tugging at the corners of her lips.

Despite the twinge of disappointment that lingered in her heart, she couldn’t deny the happiness that radiated from him when he was playing with his friends.
