Chapter 56: Eyes
The next morning, Alexander, came running to Anastasia’s room which is where she was busy packing clothes and stuff that she might need.
Considering the time to get t know each other and find a plan together, Anastasia will have to stay at the Luna pack for a couple of days.
She looked at Alexander who shyly stood by her bedroom door, watching her with sparkles in his eyes, as he always does.
Anastasia patted her bed, asking him to sit down with her, and he immediately sprinted toward the bed and sat down beside her. That’s when she asked, "Did you pack your bag, Alex?"
He nodded like the good little kid he was and asked her lowly, "Ana? It’s been half a year and Liam isn’t back. Why?"
Anastasia froze and looked at Alex silently, feeling guilty.
Alex was so close to Liam and had been asking about him every single day since he left and every time he asked, she kept either lying to him by saying he would be back soon or changing the subject to make him distracted by something else.
She sighed and spun toward Alex and cupped his face. "I’m sorry Alex, but I don’t think Liam will ever come back. He went to a beautiful place, and cannot come back anytime soon, but he is okay and happy there."
Lies and more lies.
She has no clue where he went or where he even is right now and definitely does not know if he is okay or happy there.
Alex pouted sadly and nodded understandingly.
Anastasia blinked her eyes to prevent tears from filling them up, before hugging Alex.
She felt guilty because she could not even tell him that she was the reason why Liam left.
In a gentle, soothing tone, Anastasia said, "Don’t worry, Alex. We’ll get through this together. Liam is at peace now." away from me.
She wanted so badly to finish that sentence. She knows that she ruined his life, and wherever he is right, as long as he is away from her, he will be at peace.
This fact stung her in the heart but she ignored it just like he had been ignoring the nonstop rejection pain every single day for the past six months.
After a moment, she pulled back, forcing a small smile. "Now, have you packed your favorite toy? We can’t leave Iron Man behind."
Alex’s eyes widened comically. "Oh no!" He scrambled off the bed, dashing out to retrieve his beloved Iron Man toy.
Anastasia watched him go with a pang of sadness and regret.
If only she could tell Alex the truth - that her misguided actions all those months ago had driven Liam away.
But the words stuck in her throat, the burden of guilt too heavy to voice aloud.
So she would bear it in silence, deciding to make amends the only way she could - by protecting her family and pack at all costs, even if it meant forming an alliance with a pack she had never met, the eastern pack aka the Luna pack.
United, they would stand firm against the enemy assailing them...and perhaps, someday, uncover the answers to heal the wounds Liam’s disappearance and rejection had left behind.

Anastasia gripped the steering wheel as she navigated her car towards the Luna pack territory, while Alex nestled in the backseat.
In the vehicles trailing behind, Philip, Caleb, and a handful of her most trusted guards followed close behind.
The journey from the Midnight pack lands stretched on for four tense hours before the borders of the eastern Luna pack finally came into view.
Slowing her approach, Anastasia rolled down the window as a pair of guards approached.
"State your business," the gruffer of the two wolves demanded, eyeing them warily.
She doesn’t blame them at all, because first they don’t know how she looks and second their pack has been getting attacked frequently.
This is why they are extra careful.
Anastasia met his gaze levelly. "I am Anastasia, head Alpha of the Midnight pack. We were summoned by your head alpha."
The guards shared a look before the second nodded. "Very well. Welcome to the Luna lands, alpha."
He motioned for the gates to be opened, allowing Anastasia’s Mustang Shelby GT500 to pass through unimpeded.
One of the guards shifted forms, offering to guide them the rest of the way to the main pack house.
Anastasia followed the wolf, taking in the sprawling expanse of the Luna territory as they drove deeper within its borders.
The lands seemed vast and well-tended - a clear reflection of their alpha’s power and influence.
When at last they reached the pack house, Anastasia couldn’t hide her surprise at the sight of the Luna Alpha himself waiting to receive them.
He was a strikingly tall, broad-shouldered figure with olive skin and hazel eyes that sparkled with warmth and energy.
A welcoming smile played across his full lips as his gaze swept over the visiting party appraisingly.
Anastasia drove her car to park it on the side.
Caleb who was driving the other car also did the same.
"Greetings. I am Xavier Werner, Alpha of the Luna pack. Welcome to our humble home." The heard alpha of the Luna pack aka Xavier spoke with an elegant grin on his face as he watched Anastasia exiting the vehicle, Alex at her side clutching his Iron Man toy.
Philip, Caleb, and the three guards quickly followed their head alpha.
Despite his disarming charm, Anastasia felt a flicker of unease as she studied Xavier’s handsome features.
Nevertheless, she inclined her head politely. "Thank you for receiving us, Alpha Werner."
"Please, call me Xavier," he insisted warmly.
Turning his attention to the young alpha at Anastasia’s side, his expression softened further. "And who might this brave little man be?"
"This is my brother, Alexander," Anastasia replied, pulling the boy closer with a protective hand on his shoulder.
Xavier crouched down to Alex’s level, that dazzling smile never slipping. "Well met, Alex. My sister Willow is just about your age. Perhaps you two could keep each other company?" He winked conspiratorially.
As if summoned, a young auburn-haired girl of perhaps ten years bounded over, bright-eyed and brimming with youthful energy. "Hi! I’m Willow," she chirped happily. " Alex, We’re gonna have so much fun together."
Anastasia tensed as the spirited girl looped her arm through Alex’s, tugging him towards a nearby field spread with wildflowers.
But before her protective instincts could kick in, Xavier’s deep chuckle rolled over her.
"No need to fret," he assured her easily. "Willow may be rambunctious but she’s a sweetheart - Alex is in very capable hands." He gestured towards the packhouse behind them. "Shall we proceed? I suspect we have much to discuss."
Forcing her features into a polite mask once more, Anastasia nodded stiffly and followed Xavier inside, her five pack members following her.
Though their newly forged alliance showed promise, she couldn’t quite shake that strange feeling that she felt when she looked at Xavier’s face.
As Asher’s assistants guided Anastasia’s men to their guest room, Xavier himself guided her towards her own room.
"So, Anastasia," he said conversationally, "It’s just you and young Alex?"
She nodded stiffly. "I left my parents to take care of the pack while I’m gone."
They kept talking together to get to know basic information about each other, mostly Xavier was asking and Anastasia would answer his questions and ask him the same question.

At lunch, Xavier insisted Anastasia and Alex sit beside him and his sister Willow. ƒгeewёbnovel.com
As the young ones chattered amiably, the adults made halting small talk.
"I understand you’ve ruled the Midnight pack for four years now?" Caleb ventured between bites of food.
Anastasia inclined her head. "Since I was twenty."
"But you’ve strived," Philip stated firmly. "Your strength is admirable, Alpha."
A tight smile tugged at Anastasia’s lips at Philip’s praise.
Xavier, meanwhile, watched the interaction with open interest, he had never met a true blood before let alone a female one. freёwebnovel.com
He found the respect that Philip has for Anastasia as his alpha so admirable.
He has read about true bloods before, apparently, it says true bloods do not accept to follow any other wolf, but watching how Philip talks to Anastasia, it seems that everything g he read about true bloods is wrong.
Once the meal concluded, Xavier was quick to guide them out to study the aftermath of the attacks invading his own lands.
"Two years these attacks have been going on," Xavier said grimly as they trekked through a decimated sector of forest. "We’ve rebuilt homes and fortifications more times than I can count."
He gestured at the burned husks of trees and pockmarked earth around them. "No matter what measures we take, our pack members keep getting killed and we keep losing more parts of our forests."
Anastasia remained silent, her eyes wandering the destruction as she clutched Alex’s hand tightly.
The anguish in Xavier’s voice rang with painful truth - she knew it all too well.
"Who do you suspect is behind these attacks?" Philip asked.
Xavier shook his head wearily. "We still don’t know who they are."
A chill raked down Anastasia’s spine at the defeated tone of his words.
But before she could offer reassurance of their combined ability to withstand this threat, an achingly familiar voice shattered the sincerity.
"Xavier? What are you doing out here alone? It’s far too dangerous."
Time seemed to shriek to a halt as Anastasia slowly turned to face the newcomer - and found herself staring into eyes she had seen in her nightmares every night for the past six months.
Liam.
