Chapter 5: Saga 5— What Kind of Bloody Bastard.....Gives 3 minutes to Defeat a Dragon!

’You have to be kidding me... This has to be some kind of sick joke.’

Kael stared up at the dragon incredulously—he couldn’t believe his eyes.... The system’s abrupt mission made things even worse.

"Those Direwolves weren’t moving aimlessly. They were running away from this... huge bastard."

Dragons were amongst the top five most dangerous and destructive beasts in the entire world.

Known for their destructive tendencies and scales that negated all sorts of physical attacks and spells.

Apex predators that even Direwolves feared. One had to be an A-rank hunter, or at least a B-rank hunter that was about to break through to A-rank.

Even then, victory was still subjective to the threat level of the dragon.

’High.... It’s bloody threat level is high—’

’It’s not worth the risk. I’m gonna back down since there’s no penalty for failure.’

So Kael thought, but he thought too soon.

[Update!]

[Penalty for failure: Loss of all rewards and EXP gained so far.]

"Tsk, this bloody system!" Kael’s mana skyrocketed.

"Sorry, big guy, but I have no choice but to end your little trip here."

He stood and tightened his grip on both blades.

The savage beast responded with a heavy and loud growl.

"RAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!"

Red mana burned on its scales—the dragon flapped its wings, then touched down on the grassy ground. The gust of wind caused by its wings uprooted all the grass within a three-metre radius.

’So this is the famed Dragon Presence.’

Dragon Presence, a unique ability possessed by all dragons—though its strength varies by the threat level (the calculated amount of a beast’s mana)—each one was still very much devastating.

Normal E-ranks would have convulsed, but not Kael.

[The host has leveled up!]

[The host has leveled up!]

[The host has leveled up!]

[The host has leveled up!]

[The host has leveled up!]

[The host has leveled up!]

[The host has leveled up!]

....

....

....

....

So the "Level Up" notifications continued to pop up until they stopped.

[LVL 6 > 30]

[Congrats, host! (Not that you deserve it.) You have ranked up.]

[Rank E > D]

[Mana and stamina have been replenished. (Don’t forget to say thank you!)]

"Thank you. (Not that you deserve it.)"

Kael sneered.

Now he had a fighting chance to end this brawl in less than three minutes.

The dragon grounded its four limbs on the earth. Its jaws stretched wide as it opened its mouth, filled with jagged teeth.

The air around them was being pulled into the dragon’s mouth. Right between its jaws, crimson-red flames gathered, twisting and folding into a gigantic fireball.

"Holy shit! Dragon’s brea—"

The dragon unleashed its flaming breath. The flames cascaded like liquid and scorched the grassy plain. The grass around the dragon was completely destroyed; all that remained was scorched earth.

The dragon watched as its flames burned Kael’s tiny frame to dust. It had confirmed its victory—being from a proud race of destroyers. The dragon turned around, fully assured of its victory.

"Hey! Ugly bastard!"

The dragon’s eyes darted around—then its gaze fell on the reforming body of Kael.

The frame of Kael’s skeleton stood, and gradually his flesh formed on his bones until he was whole once again.

[Immortality Assist has successfully been used.]

[The host has exhausted the Immortality Assist for today. (Do try not to die again.)]

"What’s with the face.... First time seeing a guy come back from the dead?"

"It’s time for round two!"

Kael re-equipped the two blades and the mana stone.

He paused for a brief second at the sight of the self-repairable blade mending together the cracks on it.

An idea hit Kael. He used his other sword to smash the self-repairable blade.

Something surreal happened that he could hardly believe....

[The host has unlocked the unique ability: Fusion. Congrats! (Took you long enough.)]

"Merger completed."

Kael grabbed the hilt of the sword—blinding golden light poured out of the blade.

The dragon knew whatever it was, it was super dangerous and detrimental to its existence.

The dragon burrowed its talons into the ground—jaws wide open, wisps of flames gathered in its mouth. The wisps soon became a boiling sea of flames.

"Grand Blade Technique:—"

For a moment, he thought he saw his mother smiling at him—though it was just a fleeting glimpse, it gave him all the strength he needed.

Liquid fire spilt forth out of the dragon’s mouth—a sublime attack that couldn’t be evaded.

Well, the thing was that—Kael wasn’t planning to evade.

[Time remaining: 00:00:03]

A wave of translucent light split the dragon’s flames in half.

A straight line of light passed diagonally through the dragon’s body.

The dragon turned its head and realised Kael was at the side of its tail.

"Axion—"

He twisted the hilt of the blade.

"Dakean!"

A burst of translucent light split the dragon into two and engulfed its entire body.

It was already night-time, so the bright white light illuminated the whole plain. People in the village gawked at its brightness.

"Woooo!"

Kael fell flat on his butt. He couldn’t move another inch—his muscles were sore, and he had already exhausted all his mana. Even the mana stone turned black, which accentuated that it had also run out of fuel (mana).

[Congrats on completing two consecutive tasks in a row.]

[You have earned a bonus reward of 20,000 EXP.]

[The host also gained 5,000 Eco from slaying the dragon.]

[LVL 30 > 45]

[Your stamina and mana have been refreshed. (You got off lucky this time.)]

[Impromptu task: Fend Off the Direwolves has been completed flawlessly.]

[Reward and additional rewards have been claimed × 80,000 Gold Coins.]

[Impromptu task: Defeat the Dragon has been successfully completed.]

[Additional rewards have been claimed × 70,000 Gold Coins.]

[A total of 150,000 Gold Coins has been deposited into the host’s inventory. (Coins can be accessed via Inventory.)]

Kael didn’t care about the system rage-baiting him—he was just elated and glad to still be alive and receive such a huge amount of money.

"I’m rich! (Temporarily.)" He threw a fist up in excitement.

’I bet I could rent an entire suite in the capital.’ A crude smile crept across his face.

Kael made his way back home and retired to bed. The next morning, sunlight hit his lazy eyelids and forced them open.

"Morning, shitbag system." Kael rose from bed.

[I hope you didn’t enjoy your night. Jeck.]

After making use of the washroom and freshening up, he had some orange juice and bread for breakfast, and then it was time to head out.

’Before I go, I would like to do one more thing.’

Kael went straight to his mother’s grave.

"It’s finally time to begin the first Chapter of my journey—"

"I’m going to live my life to the fullest, just like you told me to."

Tears rolled down his cheeks and fell on the grave.

"I hope that you are somewhere watching, Mother."

He laid his head upon the grave. Then he stood and wiped his tears.

From where he was standing, he could see the entire village.

"I never want to see this disgusting place ever again." He clenched his teeth.

"System, take me to the capital city: Renodin."

[Request has been accepted. 1,000 Gold Coins have been deducted.]

[Location confirmed...]

A large blue magic circle burst forth beneath Kael’s feet. A gust of wind swept across the hill.

[Renodin]

Kael was consumed by the blue light and vanished.
