Chapter 14: Saga 14— So What You are Trying to tell me is that I have to Marry.....My System Or She dies? II
Light rays from the rising morning sun that broke through the narrow openings of the side windows hit Kael’s closed eyelids, forcing them open. He lazily carried his foot from the bed to the ground.
Despite sleeping all through the night, Kael looked tired and exhausted. It was as if he woke from a bad dream. It just had to be at this point....
He heard a knock on his door. Kael shuffled over to the door and twisted the knob. The faces he saw reminded him that it was indeed not a bad dream.
"Nice suite—"
Yuki pushed Kael aside.
"Sweet! Chips." He grabbed a bag of chips from the center table and sat on a couch, legs crossed.
"Sure, just make yourselves at home while I take a shower." Kael left them to do as they pleased.
"Love the aesthetics of this place. Reminds me of my family’s winter lounge." Claire strode into the room.
"I still don’t trust him," Harriden grunted. "For all we know, everything he said yesterday could all be lies."
"Or could be the truth," Claire sighed.
"Just chill, Harriden. If he were lying, I would have already blown his head off." Yuki continued to snack on the chips.
"Leader!" Harriden turned to Sylvia, who was currently lost in thought.
"He is the only lead I have now—"
"I’m not a fan of him either, but everything he said made sense," Sylvia spoke from a rather logical point of view.
The previous day in the colosseum, Kael told Sylvia the complete truth. About how she needed to marry him in order to sustain her life force and prevent erosion.
He also added that she must like him mutually, so her feelings can’t be forced based on the fact that he was her only means of survival. This very fact made Sylvia totally, completely lose her mind for a brief second.
For someone who just started her life about three years ago and had about a month to live, she looked really calm on the outside but had a raging storm on the inside.
She never really thought about love; she was focused on her duties, responsibilities, and living her life. Though a lot of prominent suitors came around on a daily basis, both as Sylvia and the Sword Princess.
Now she had to like a guy she was generally infuriated by, and the emotions couldn’t be forced.... Talk about a lot.
"Look on the bright side, boss lady. If you quit being a Hunter, you might have a few more years to live—"
"Before you ultimately perish," Yuki said with his usual carefree tone.
"Really?!" Harriden furrowed a brow.
"You dimwit!" Claire slammed Yuki on the head with a pillow.
"I’m super sorry, Sylvia. I asked my mother if I could gain an audience with the World Tree, but she refused for reasons best known to her—"
"And you know how she gets when you push her." She let out a defeated sigh.
A shrieking frown formed on all their faces as they had a flashback of when Claire’s mom gave them a beating when she found out that Claire was a Hunter and they were her teammates.
"Okay! I’m done. I would like us to go over the terms and conditions we agreed to yesterday." Kael waltzed into the living room and sat on the couch.
"No asking of your past and personal history," Harriden mumbled.
"Though I find that very hard to agree to."
"Last I checked, you aren’t the one agreeing." Kael knew that Harriden didn’t like him, but that was the least of his problems.
"You will provide me with any and all aid regarding my survival." Sylvia flexed her fingers.
’Tsk... I love a good tsundere.’
"I will devote myself to that very cause."
Kael’s voice sounded bold and confident.
’He didn’t have to say it so strongly.’ Sylvia mumbled to herself.
"I don’t find your pick-up line attractive." She pursed her lips.
’Nah, I can’t believe my eyes.’ Claire laughed inwardly.
They thoroughly discussed their terms and conditions. And came to a solid conclusion that if both of them were to like each other, they would have to be close to one another almost all the time and go on dates and stuff.
"Class is almost starting, guys." Yuki observed that the clock had just hit 8:00 a.m.
"Holy shit! We have to get going." Kael stood and started to make his way to the door.
"If we take the carriage, we won’t make it in time. That means—" A profound grin tore across Claire’s face.
"No! Please." Yuki let out a frustrated sigh.
"Not again. I’m not sure I have recovered from the last one." Harriden placed a hand on his head.
"Claire, maybe we should ju—"
"It’s for the greater good!" White magicules gathered in-between Claire’s conjoined hands and condensed into a profoundly designed, sleek wooden staff.
"What’s going on?" Kael came to notice that a bright white magic circle was spreading across the living room.
A blinding white light flashed before their horrified eyes and consumed them whole as they vanished and reappeared beside Renodin Academy’s side walls.
’Teleportation.’ Kael could hardly believe it. Teleportation was the fastest means of travel, but one had to be either a spatial mage or a profound mage to use teleportation spells, or so he thought.
’And to teleport four other people apart from herself without breaking a sweat—’
’Who the hell is she? Cause I’m pretty sure being a high elf doesn’t grant one such abilities.’
Teleporting oneself was already draining enough, but to teleport four people at once just looked surreal to Kael.
[Have you forgotten your Teleportation Assist could do the same thing? Plus, it can teleport an entire town, but that would cost about ten billion gold depending on the location.]
’Is this really the time to be bragging?’ He sneered.
Harriden and Yuki literally barfed up rainbow-coloured liquid.
"There, there." Claire and Sylvia patted their backs.
"Claire," Kael called out.
"Yes?" She replied.
"What’s your affinity anyways?" He asked.
"That’s a secret." She placed a finger in-between her lips and winked.
