Chapter 13: Saga 13— So What You are Trying to tell me is that I have to Marry.....My System Or She dies?

Kael’s body moved without any prior thinking or plan. He breached the gap between him and the falling Sylvia before her tantalising body could hit the floor. He slid on the ground—knees down—and caught her by the waist.

"Are you okay?" A minute ago, she was just about to kill him, but Kael let it slide for her voluptuous body. He was just a guy after all.

"Hey, you! Get your hands off our leader!"

Harriden sprang up from Kael’s shadow and pointed a dagger directly towards Kael’s throat.

"I would have you know I just saved her from breaking a few bones... A thank you wouldn’t be too much to ask."

Kael pushed the dagger aside and stood, carrying Sylvia within his hands.

"How dare you touch her body in such a way?!" Harriden clenched his teeth in frustration.

"Harriden-kun, calm down... Even though he attacked Sylvia, from the looks of things, he didn’t want to kill her—"

"Not that he could anyways."

Claire strode into the arena. For a moment there, her logical reasoning stopped the breakout of yet another fight.

"You guys, wait up!" Yuki ran towards Claire. "You both walk too fast. I could barely keep up." His breathing heaved. He stopped briefly to catch his breath.

"That’s because you are too goddamn lazy!"

Claire and Harriden exclaimed.

"Okay." He lifted his head up, and his gaze fell on Kael.

’This guy is bad news... I can’t seem to shake the feeling that he could attack me from there.’

Kael’s survival instincts tingled—from the sight of them, he knew that they were all monsters—beings that had transcended the realm of prodigies and geniuses.

"Kael... could you please lay her down softly on the floor—"

"It may not look like it, but this has been happening a lot recently when she uses her abilities too much," Claire stroked her pigtails.

"Sure!" Kael bent his back and lowered Sylvia gently to the ground.

[Update!]

[The Sword System’s life force is at 61%.]

"What happens if she exhausts all of it?" Kael whispered.

[We can communicate telepathically... my not-so-annoying host.]

[If her life force hits zero, she dies, and you lose one hundred years of your lifespan.]

’Cruel as usual, fucking bastard—’

’How do I save her?’

[That’s simple.]

[Bond Quest (Sword System): Marry Sylvia, but she must first like and approve of you. Her feelings must be mutual, not forced or coerced.]

[Likeness Level (Sylvia): -100%. Use this to track your progress.]

[Time limit: One month.]

[Reward: Access to the Supreme Ability: Synchronisation.]

[Note: She might most probably die before the said time limit, so hurry up.]

’You got to be fucking kidding me.’ Kael let out a defeated sigh. He didn’t even know where to start. At the beginning of his journey, he thought he would be collecting his systems, not marrying overpowered wives.

You know that face a student makes when they realise they didn’t score a B plus on a mathematics test but a C minus? That was exactly the face Kael made. Not angry, not surprised, just starstruck.

’Douchebag System, are you for real? I know she’s a sexy bitch, but I don’t think she’s gonna wanna marry me—’

’And what’s this about my system suddenly becoming hot women..... Wasn’t the mission to retrieve my redirected rewards?’

[Tsk... Tsk... Tsk.]

[Error... Error... Errr... Error detected.]

[Initiating cleansing protocols.]

[Error has been managed for now.]

[Update!]

{Grand Quest: Collect your redirected systems, which have all gained awareness and bodies.}

[The issue has been rectified (no thanks needed).]

Kael’s left eye twitched. He was doing everything in his power not to display that he was angry.

’Why didn’t you tell me I would be going after loaded beauties?’

He wasn’t angry because his redirected systems became women. He was angry because he wasn’t told that he would be going after beauties with banging bodies.

’System, this is the best discovery I have ever made—’

’Though I’m still sad about what happened to my mother. But—’

’I can’t continue to sulk.’

Kael knew he couldn’t continue blaming his system for coming late—even though, if he had access to his system earlier on, he might have saved his mother.

’A wise man once told me— "Regret only breeds more regret. But a man who has accepted all his past traumas can build a bridge to eternal peace."’

While Kael was still deep in thought, Claire proceeded to resuscitate Sylvia. A bright green spell circle spread beneath Sylvia’s lying body. The spell circle emitted a warm green glow. Sylvia absorbed the floating particles (magicules) into her body.

"I can’t believe it happened again."

Sylvia’s head jerked upwards. She panted heavily for a brief moment. Then she got on her feet.

’As usual, I don’t even need to finish casting the spell, and she’s already on her feet—’

’High elves, in particular, are known for their high magicule absorption rate, but Sylvia is a rare exception. Then again, it’s not like she’s human.’

Claire let out a slow sigh. Magicules make up mana, and mana enables spells. Magicules were found in every part of the world. But certain spells help concentrate them in a particular location, position, place, or area.

Sylvia’s voice brought Kael back from "thinking land."

’She doesn’t seem like a healer to me.’ Kael thought Claire was an attack mage, and according to common knowledge, attack mages are incapable of using healing spells.

"Sylvia, are you okay?" Harriden asked, his eyes filled with worry.

"Harriden, I think you are overreacting. This is the captain we are talking about." Yuki threw his hands behind his neck.

"That’s the problem with you..."

Claire smacked him on the head.

"You dense barbarian!" Claire yelped.

"I’m fine, Harriden. Thanks for asking." Sylvia was already used to their squabbles. What really bothered her was the recent lash back and weakness she had been feeling after using her abilities.

"You!"

She turned to Kael with a death stare.

"You stopped me from falling... that I appreciate—"

"But that doesn’t justify the fact that you were following me around."

Sylvia’s tone was rude and very ungrateful.

"So I ask you this one more time. Why were you tailing me?" It sounded more like a threat than a question.

’Should I tell her the truth... tsk... Fuck it all.’

Kael was in a tight spot, but either way, he had to say something.

"Sure... I will. But—"

"Your friends have to leave us," Kael said boldly.

"Don’t worry. They already know what I am." Sylvia rolled her eyes.

"Fine, that makes things easier—"

Kael sat on one of the bottom seats.

"You said you were having trouble maintaining your abilities, right?" He lowered his gaze to the ground, then looked back up at Sylvia.

"That’s because your life force is dwindling, and in about a month’s time, you are going to kick the bucket."

His words were not pleasant to the ears of Sylvia or her friends.

"But—"
