Chapter 38: We’re Not Selling Anything.

A soft breeze moved through the area, brushing past them as the city slowly settled into the night.

Kael and the others slowly travelled a bit inside the city, eyes lingering over the shops near them.

"There are a lot of shops which are selling clothes," Sylvia muttered, looking around her surroundings.

Then her gaze landed on Leon. His head was lowered, his eyes locked onto the floor. Sweat rolled down the side of his face, and for perhaps the first time, he looked genuinely nervous. It was clear that something had him deeply unsettled.

She then noticed the people, their gaze was filled with malice as if they were looking at someone who had run away from prison bars.

Instantly, her gaze shifted towards Leon again as she questioned. "Why are they looking at you with that kind of look?"

He didn’t reply for a while, but then a slight groan left his mouth. "Uh..." fɾēewebnσveℓ.com

"I’m a low—"

But before he could finish his sentence, Kael’s voice echoed through the surroundings.

"People have always measured themselves through the eyes of others. Some look at me, some at Leon, and some at Sylas. What they seek is rarely the person before them, but rather a reflection of their own desires, fears, and aspirations."

Sylvia kept blinking her eyes, like someone who hadn’t understood the situation for even a single second.

Without saying any other word, they all kept walking, finding the most suitable shop for them.

The shop’s exterior was crafted from fine wood, giving it an elegant appearance. Large glass windows lined the walls, displaying luxurious garments within. At a glance, it was clear that these clothes were meant for nobles rather than commoners.

Leon’s gaze fell on it first, and his eyes started to sparkle as he muttered. "Mansion Lord, I think we should purchase clothes from this shop."

"What’s your reasoning for that?"

"We’re going to Count’s mansion tonight, and certainly we can’t go there without fancy clothes."

Kael stood there for a while, thinking about the situation, then continued. "Let’s not waste any more of our time and purchase from here."

After saying that, Kael walked towards the shop. Leon gave a silent nod as he walked behind Kael.

When they all entered inside, they noticed that the inside was huge and most of it was filled with luxurious clothes.

Mannequins stood at the corners and center of the room, each dressed in luxurious attire. From elegant men’s suits to refined women’s dresses and finely tailored children’s outfits, every garment radiated wealth and sophistication.

A table was kept next to the entry door; on it, there were multiple documents, and a woman was sitting in a chair next to the table. Her eyes were fixed on the documents.

Leon leaned over the table as he grabbed the edges of it with his palm. "We’d like to purchase some clothes."

The woman’s gaze fell upon Leon, and the moment she noticed his white hair, recognition flashed across her eyes. A look of disgust immediately twisted her expression. Curling her lips, she spoke in a cold, disdainful tone. "I’m sorry, sir, but we’re not selling anything today."

A flicker of realisation fell upon him as he instantly took his hands off the table. "Umm... but there are a lot of clothes in here, though." He directed his hand towards the shelves containing clothes.

A smile appeared on her lips, but everyone present there knew that she had forced it. "I’m sorry, sir, but we’re not selling any of those today."

"But—"

Before Leon could even say a word, a hand shot out and grabbed him by the collar, yanking him backward.

He tilted his head slightly and found Sylvia standing behind him. Releasing his collar, she stepped forward and placed her hands on her waist, glaring at the woman.

"What do you mean by that?!" she demanded. "There are literally clothes all over this shop, and you’re telling us you’re not selling any of them? Do you take us for fools?!"

The woman was about to reply with the same answer once again, but she spotted a symbol of ’Imperial Army’ engraved over Sylvia’s top. Her jaw instantly dropped as she bowed her head down. "I-I didn’t know that an official was coming here today to purchase clothes."

"I-It’s an honour for us to serve someone who’s a captain in one of the divisions of ’Imperial Army’."

Without wasting another second, she rose from her chair and strode toward the women’s section. Her steps were quick and confident, as if she had already decided she was going to leave with something before anyone could stop her.

But then Sylvia stated. "I don’t need clothes for women,"

A confused expression took over the saleswoman’s face as she questioned. "Uh... what do you mean, ma’am?"

Sylvia directed her hand towards Kael, who was standing next to the shelves containing kids’ clothes.

"That man over there is here to purchase clothes for him and his son."

The woman’s gaze lingered on Kael. Standing beside the children’s section with Sylas in his arms, he looked remarkably handsome. His calm expression and natural elegance made him stand out effortlessly.

A faint blush spread across the woman’s cheeks as she quickly approached him. "Sir, let me help you," she said softly. "I can show you some of our finest clothes."

Kael’s attention didn’t falter; it remained fixed on Sylas as he muttered. "Which one do you want, Sylas?"

Sylas was simply looking at the clothes, eyes gleaming brightly with excitement. The moment he heard the sudden question of Kael, he pointed toward a boy’s outfit on display, a beautiful blue top paired with matching trousers. The fabric looked exquisite, and its elegant design gave it a luxurious appearance.

A feint smile tugged at the corner of Kael’s lips, hand travelled down to Sylas’s head as he started patting him. "We’ll take it."
