Chapter 36: Invitation.
"This is—" Before he could even complete his sentence, the noise of footsteps fell inside his ears.
Their gaze turned towards the direction from where it came in unison. They noticed that Kael was standing there with his arms crossed.
His usual calm demeanour of his remained intact as he took a few steps towards the door. "What are you here for?"
"Didn’t I tell you to stay away from my family and me?"
Instinctively, Stephan took a step back as his head faced the ground. "I wasn’t here to disturb you in any kind of way," he said, voice low.
Without saying anything, Kael simply looked at him. After a while, Kael continued. "Then state your reason for coming here."
He didn’t waste even a second. Reaching into his robe, he pulled out a pouch tied with a yellow-colored band and tossed it toward Kael.
"What does that pouch contain?"
"This is something which Count told me to deliver to you, that’s all I know."
Kael didn’t say anything else, simply took the pouch from Stephan’s grip.
He untwisted the band and opened the pouch. The moment he looked inside, his eyes landed on a pile of gleaming gold coins. There wasn’t just a handful of them; the pouch was filled with a considerable fortune.
Silently, Leon took a few steps forward. When he reached closer to Kael, he lifted himself on his toes as he peeked through the pouch.
When he saw a bunch of golden coins in there, his eyes started to glow glamorously. His skin lit up as he let a huge scream out of his mouth. "Gold!!!!"
"Mansion lord, that’s a whole fucking treasure."
A vein popped through Kael’s forehead, but he didn’t reply to Leon in any sort of way.
Leon kept his banter up for a few more minutes until his excitement wore off. He took a few deep breaths as he made his way towards Stephan and grabbed him by his hand. "Why are you handing this huge sum of money to us?"
Stephan leaned backward, attempting to move his face a few inches away from Leon’s. "I didn’t know that there was gold in it; I just came because Count told me to deliver it to him." He pointed towards Kael.
A faint yet soothing smile tugged at Kael’s lips. "It might be the money that I told him to deliver to me."
Leon tilted his head slightly, mouth opened in confusion. "Huh?"
Kael ignored Leon completely as if he wasn’t even there, his gaze returned to Stephan, and he continued. "If you don’t have anything to say, leave."
"Wait, I still have one more thing to pass on from the Count."
Kael crossed his arms next to his chest. "Continue."
"The Count invited you to the dinner tonight, please attend with your whole family," he said, bowing down slightly. fɾeeweɓnѳveɭ.com
’Invited us to the dinner? What’s that man thinking about?’
Without saying anything, Kael turned around and started walking back towards the hall.
Stephan extended his hand as he continued. "Please wait,"
His steps suddenly stopped. "What is it?"
"Please consider coming to the dinner tonight; everyone in the Count’s mansion is preparing thoroughly for it."
"I’ll decide if I want to come or not."
As soon as he finished speaking, he resumed walking. This time, he didn’t pause even once before finally stepping into the hall.
Both Leon and Stephan remained standing there as a sense of disbelief lingered over their faces.
"So, he left with all that money?" Leon muttered; his gaze remained fixed towards the hall’s entry.
"Yeah, he surely did," Stephan replied to him, completely baffled by what just happened.
But a sense of realisation flickered over them as they both took a few steps away from each other.
Leon pointed a finger at Stephan. "Hey, stop acting as if we’re friends."
"Ahem... the feeling is mutual. I have no intention of being friends with a mere servant," Stephan muttered, clearing his throat.
"Get in here, and serve the food." Kael’s words echoed through the surroundings as they fell inside Leon’s ears.
His body instantly shivered as goosebumps appeared on his skin. "Coming right away, Mansion Lord." Without wasting even a single second, he rushed towards the kitchen.
Now, Stephan was the only one left standing there. Letting out a quiet sigh, he muttered under his breath,
"All I had to do was deliver the pouch and the invitation to that man. My job here is finished."
He then turned around and started walking back toward the city.
When Leon entered the kitchen, there were a bunch of plates in front of him. He grabbed all of them and walked towards the dining table.
He started putting the plates over the table in a systematic order, and later added food inside them.
"Mansion lord, the food is served."
After a few minutes, Kael entered the chamber. Sylas was resting in his arms, still half asleep.
Behind him, Sylvia walked as her arms remained in her pants pockets.
A delicate smell of food lingered all over the place. The moment Sylvia sniffed it, her eyes started to glow with sparkle. "Mhmm!! What did you even make to make the food smell so delicious?"
Leon’s brows furrowed, and a look of complete disgust appeared on his face as he muttered,
"You won’t get to eat until the Mansion Lord and our little Sylas have eaten."
She instantly stepped forward, hands tugging at her waist. "Hey, I worked the whole day, and you’re saying I can’t eat food?!"
Leon ignored her, went towards Sylas, and picked him up in his gentle grasp as he muttered. "Aww!! Sylas, you’re looking even more cute today."
He gently placed Sylas over his chair and patted his head. The pieces of meat were already cut into small, thin slices for Sylas to eat easily.
