Chapter 35: Can I Meet With The Owner?
"And you’re not someone who’s my superior, who said that to you?"
Leon’s brow raised; he crossed his arms. "You, who came here only to stay temporarily, dare to question how I am your superior,
When I am someone bound to this family itself?"
A low chuckle escaped through his mouth as he directed the dusting cloth towards her and continued. "Know your place, you slave."
Sylvia took a step forward and removed the dusting cloth from her front. "Whatever it is, don’t forget that I’m a captain of a division in the ’Imperial Army’."
"So what? Does it matter?"
Sylvia’s eyes widened, her mouth opened in disbelief. The shock quickly turned into anger as her voice cut through the air.
"You dare question me back?" she snapped, her tone sharp and accusing. Without hesitation, she raised her hand, ready to swing it at Leon.
"Ahhhhh, Mansion lord, look at her!! She’s trying to kill me!!" Leon’s loud voice echoed through the chamber.
But before Kael could even react to the claim, something unexpected happened.
Out of nowhere, Sylas’s eyes started to twitch. He snuggled a bit towards Kael as he grabbed a piece of his shirt. "Ummm..."
Kael’s gaze shifted towards Sylas, and the others followed his gaze.
Silence fell over the hall for a while until Kael finally decided to break it. "Enough with your childish behavior,"
His deep yet cold voice echoed through the chamber. "That behavior of yours is making Sylas uncomfortable, so get out of the hall."
Leon’s back straightened instantly. He knew what would happen if he kept standing in there. Without wasting even a single second, he rushed towards the kitchen. freewebnøvel.coɱ
Sylvia remained rooted to the spot, her eyes fixed on Leon as he bolted forward with all his strength. Disbelief clouded her gaze, her lips parting slightly as if words failed her.
’Why did he run like that?’ she thought, confusion stirring in her chest while her eyes followed his retreating figure.
Without knowing anything about Kael, she let a chuckle escape through her mouth.
Her eyes remained fixed on the kitchen where Leon was; she noticed that he was gesturing something to her.
A small motion of the hand, telling her to get away from there. She also noticed that he was murmuring something. "Get. Away. From. There."
A strange mix of emotions flickered across Sylvia’s face, her expression shifting between confusion and disbelief. ’Why is he gesturing for me to get away from here?’
Then, Kael’s voice rang through her ears once again. "Didn’t you hear what I just said?"
"Huh?"
"I won’t allow you to stay here if you don’t leave this hall."
Sylvia swallowed hard, her throat tightening as the weight of the words sank in. Without another glance, she turned and hurried toward the garden; her steps remained hurried.
"Parents surely love their children too much that they can make someone stronger than them feel fear," she muttered as a few pants left through her mouth.
She took quite a bit of time to compose herself. After that, her gaze shifted towards the broom, which was kept next to the tree’s trunk.
’Do I really have to do this?’
She looked around herself, and she noticed that Kael was just sitting patiently on the couch while patting Sylas’s head.
She noticed Leon was in the kitchen, busy preparing lunch. But his gaze never left her, as if he was silently warning her. The message was clear to her: if she slacked for even a while, he would step in to correct her.
’He’s looking at me continuously... that man really behaves like a superior,’ she thought, unease flickering in her chest.
She walked towards the broom and grabbed it. She took a deep breath as she continued. "I have no other place to go..." Her grip tightened onto the broom as a vein popped through her hand.
"Why did I even come to this county as an ’Undercover’ soldier?"
A sigh escaped through her mouth as she accepted her fate and started sweeping the floor.
The time started to pass, and the broad afternoon rays of the sun softened, fading into the dim yet calm glow of the evening light. Cool breeze of air flowed through the air and brushed across the scenery.
After preparing food, Leon stepped out of the kitchen as he walked towards Kael.
"Mansion lord, the food is ready."
His gaze turned towards Sylas, who was still sleeping next to Kael.
A small chuckle left through Leon’s mouth. "He surely got a lot tired after playing."
He leaned closer to Sylas, his hand gently squeezing the boy’s cheeks. A faint smile touched his lips as he spoke in a warm, coaxing tone.
"It’s time to wake up, Sylas. Time to eat."
But before they could even continue, Sylvia’s voice echoed through the chamber. "I’m not doing any more than this today."
Both of them turned their eyes towards the garden, noticed that Sylvia was standing there completely covered in sweat and dirt, and
She stepped inside the hall as she questioned. "Can I finally eat some food now?"
Leon stepped closer to her, his lips parting as if to speak. But before a single word could escape, a couple of knocks echoed from beyond the main gate.
"I’ll go check who’s at the door, Mansion Lord," Leon muttered as he walked towards the gate.
He grabbed the handles, grip remained firm as he pushed the door open. He noticed that Stephan was standing there, and a huge brown-colored pouch remained in his palm.
Leon’s brows furrowed a bit. "What is that?"
Without wasting a second, Stephan muttered. "Can I meet with the owner of this place?"
"You don’t have to meet with him, just tell me what’s in there."
He directed his hand forward and muttered. "This is—" Before he could even complete his sentence, the noise of footsteps fell inside his ears.
