Chapter 52: New member

The next day, we made a small adjustment to the recruitment post. Finally, a few people started submitting applications.

I let out a sigh as I leaned back in my chair in satisfaction.

My wife and Li smiled at each other. Our efforts had finally paid off.

My wife said,

"Li, could you go buy a few cups of milk tea? We should have a little celebration."

Li nodded and left the room immediately.

My wife turned to me with a bright smile. She seemed to be very happy.

"We did it."

A faint, soulless smile appeared on my face as I nodded back at her. The success we achieved after yesterday’s hard work finally made all our efforts worthwhile.

I asked, a hint of curiosity in my voice,

"Why are you so happy?"

My wife just shrugged.

"It’s the first time we’ve worked so hard together. I love moments like this—when we’re working side by side."

I nodded calmly before glancing at the sky through the window.

"I hope you’re happy, because from now on, you’ll have a lot more work to do."

A few days passed, and we received a total of twenty applications. Now came the most important part.

I sat in my chair with my fingers interlocked and my hands resting on the desk, dressed in a black business suit.

I didn’t want to wear this outfit, but my wife insisted. She said we needed to look professional in front of the candidates. Otherwise, they might decide not to join us if we appeared unprofessional.

Indeed, she was much better at this than I was.

I glanced at my wife, who was sitting beside me. She looked even more beautiful than usual. Dressed in a short office skirt and a crisp white blouse, her outfit elegantly accentuated her figure, especially her curves.

She glanced at me, catching my eye. A mischievous smile formed on her lips, lightly tinted with red and pink lipstick.

"Am I beautiful?"

...

I wanted to ignore her, but then I thought again. Maybe it would be better to praise her. I didn’t want to hear her complaining anymore.

"Stunningly beautiful."

My wife nodded in satisfaction, a faint blush forming on her ears.

"Y-You look really handsome today."

I simply nodded indifferently and replied in a neutral voice

"Thank you."

A few minutes later, we began calling in the first candidate to enter the room.

He was an overweight student from the lower class. His appearance was completely ordinary, with no notable traits to mention.

He walked to the chair and sat down in front of me.

I glanced at the information on my iPad.

Name: Zane Everett

Class: [F]

Rank: [F]

Potential: [E–]

Specialties: Cooking, eating a lot, sleeping for seven days straight, and a strong dislike for work.

My wife and I frowned.

It seemed this guy was completely useless to us. I couldn’t see a single strength worth noting.

I paused for a moment before asking,

"What is your goal in joining our club?"

Zane tilted his head in confusion. Then, he replied honestly.

"Nothing... I just want to join your club to experience what it’s like to be in one. Anyway, with my potential, I won’t be able to join any other club except yours."

I sighed before waving my hand, signaling him to leave.

"Thank you for your honesty. You can wait outside for my decision afterward."

The overweight student left calmly, as if he had never expected to pass the evaluation in the first place. I felt he had only come here for fun.

A few minutes later, the next candidate stepped in – but this one was even worse than the previous one.

Then came the third, followed by the fourth, fifth, and sixth candidates.

My wife let out a sigh.

"What a disappointment. I don’t think we’ll find even one suitable candidate."

I remained silent, but I shared the same disappointment. Still, we had no choice but to keep going.

The next candidate stepped into the room.

My wife sighed again, looking even more bored. The candidate standing before us was a short, skinny young man. His messy bangs hung low, completely covering his eyes.

His clothes were ragged and dirty, as though they were the only ones he owned.

Name: Jaxon Reed

Class: [F]

Rank: [F–]

Potential: [F]

Specialties: Proficient with computers; holds a two-year IT certification and specializes in hacking small-scale networks.

My eyes widened for a brief moment as I looked at the information on my iPad.

I studied him silently for a few seconds before asking,

"Why do you want to join our club?"

Jaxon answered without trying to hide his intentions. Even his voice trembled slightly, as if he were afraid of failing the interview.

"I want to earn credits. I want to graduate. I want to join a mid-tier guild, make money, and live a good life."

I nodded with satisfaction.

’’Good. You can wait outside.’’

Jaxon bowed his head and left.

...

My wife asked,

"What do you think?"

I replied,

"He could become a useful asset. We need someone who’s proficient with computers, especially someone skilled in network intrusion."

My wife nodded.

"I think so. It’s a field that very few clubs pay attention to. Most of them only care about recruiting members with exceptional combat strength."

I smirked.

"Next candidate, please come in."

The door opened, revealing a towering, heavily muscular man with tanned skin. He scratched the back of his head with a goofy smile on his face.

He had to duck his head beneath the doorframe just to fit through the doorway.

My wife and I frowned at the same time as we looked up at the giant standing before us.

My wife said in confusion,

"I’ve never seen anyone this big before. I think he’s a hybrid."

The giant grinned and scratched the back of his head again.

"That’s right. My father is a giant from the continent of Eryndor, and my mother is human."

I nodded in understanding before looking down at my iPad.
