Chapter 51: Trash Club
That afternoon, I completed the formalities to establish a club, spending 2,500 credits. My wife and I paid for the club together, so even that amount wasn’t a problem for us. However, our credits had now dropped to rock bottom.
I wasn’t worried. We’d earn them back again—far more than before. It was worth the investment.
Then, we arrived at our club office.
I sat down in a chair and leaned back before glancing out the window at the sky.
"Nice room."
My wife simply rolled her eyes and said,
"Our club needs a name. Do you have one in mind yet?"
I replied in a soulless voice,
"No. You can name the club. I don’t care."
My wife grumbled.
"You’re so irresponsible. How can the Club President say something like that?"
I shrugged.
"Then it’s your responsibility now, Vice President."
My wife huffed in annoyance before turning away with a pout.
"Huh? Since when did I become the Vice President? I don’t want that."
I replied calmly,
"If you don’t want it, I’ll give the position to Li."
My wife frowned in anger before glaring at me. Her eyes gradually turned red and watery.
"Do you want me to cry?"
...
I frowned and clicked my tongue, continuing to stare out the window in irritation.
Silence filled the room, leaving even Li, who was standing nearby, feeling awkward.
My wife spoke. Her voice sounded noticeably sweeter and softer than before.
"I want us to come up with the name together. That’s my condition for accepting the position."
I sighed before slowly turning to my wife. She looked at me with an expectant, almost shy expression. Our eyes met, but for some reason, she quickly looked away before glancing back at me. Her ears gradually turned red as I continued staring at her.
"W-What’s wrong? Don’t stare at me," my wife stammered.
I replied calmly.
"Trash Club."
My wife and Li squinted at me in confusion.
"Trash Club?" they asked in unison.
My wife’s face darkened. Her ample chest rose and fell as she let out a disappointed sigh.
"W-Why? Is there some meaning behind it? Don’t tell me you’re trying to say we’re a pile of trash."
I replied,
"I just want to make an impression. A weird name will attract everyone’s attention. Besides, if our club stands above every other club in the academy, that just means they’re even worse than trash."
My wife’s face twitched a few times. She grumbled,
"What an impression. Don’t tell me that, in the future, you’re going to name our child Scrap, Junk, or Dumpster."
"I don’t want our child’s name to be something related to trash."
A few seconds later, she finally realized what she had just said. A faint blush spread across her face. I could almost see steam rising from the top of her head. She turned away, yet kept sneaking glances at me with a bashful look in her eyes.
I just let out a tired sigh.
"Of course not."
Indeed, my wife really was like my ex-girlfriend. She even had a list of names for our future children and wanted me to come up with them together with her.
It was a sad memory... If my girlfriend hadn’t died of cancer, perhaps we wouldn’t have broken up. That list of names might have been used.
I changed the topic and said,
"I’ve decided. Our club’s name is Trash from now on."
Four hours later, I stood between my wife and Li as they sat at their desks, typing on their computers. I was directing them as they drafted the recruitment announcement for new club members and posted it on the academy’s social media page.
My wife asked while controlling her sewing needles to type on the keyboard.
"What kind of people do you want to recruit?"
She added,
"Just give up on those with high potential. I don’t think they’ll join us."
Li nodded.
"Sir, I think you should recruit people like me – those suffering from incurable illnesses. With your special stones, you could heal them and earn their loyalty."
I shook my head slightly.
"I won’t do that. My wife needs those stones. Besides, people like you are too rare for me to take advantage of."
He paused for a moment before saying,
"First, let’s accept applications from anyone. I’ll interview them myself."
I added,
"Also, include this in the announcement: anyone who passes the interview will receive 50 credits."
My wife frowned.
"Are you sure? We’ve almost run out of credits. Plus, I’m sure everyone who comes to us will be students from the lower classes. They won’t be able to meet our requirements."
I said,
"There’s no need to worry. Even people from the lower classes can still accomplish something. Don’t underestimate them."
My wife sighed and nodded. She and Li got to work.
Thanks to my gossip-loving classmates, news of my club had already spread throughout the academy. Combined with the recruitment post on the academy’s social media page, plenty of students learned about our club and left comments on the post.
However... it wouldn’t be easy.
[A]: "What the hell? How can a club be called Trash?"
[B]: "That’s actually the name? Hahaha... that’s kind of interesting."
My wife frowned in surprise.
"Most people are just mocking our club’s name, but it really has attracted a lot of attention."
Li said,
"But they’re only making fun of us instead of submitting applications."
...
I replied calmly,
"This is only the first stage. Thanks to them, our post is now at the top of the academy’s social media page. I believe there are people who want to join us."
...
Five hours later...
There was still no sign that anyone would submit an application.
My wife and Li could only sigh in disappointment as they sat in their chairs. Meanwhile, I wore the same bored expression as they did.
I thought we had failed.
"Let’s go home. We’ll continue tomorrow. Tonight, I’ll study a few things and try to come up with something more appealing. Perhaps our recruitment post just isn’t attractive enough."
My wife and Li nodded in unison.
