Chapter 43: 500 credits for this head

’’Why? Why did you kill our grandfather... Big Brother? Big Sister? Why?’’

...

My wife’s face froze at the question. After all, she herself had dealt the final blow that killed the children’s grandfather.

Did she feel guilty for killing their relative? I guessed she did. After all, my wife was a kind person.

I said,

’’Clear your mind, Arthea. In the future, you’ll do the same thing many more times. Every life you take may have many people connected to it. You have to face that. You can feel guilty, but don’t let it affect you.’’

My wife bit her upper lip before reluctantly nodding.

I glanced at the children with emotionless eyes, having no idea what to do with them until they shouted,

’’I’ll get my revenge! When I become stronger, I’ll kill all of you, scumbags!’’

Emma yelled with bloodshot eyes.

’’I’ll kill everyone connected to you, tear their corpses apart, and devour them!’’

Ella cried out in pure agony.

’’I’ll take everything from you, just like you did to me.’’

Now I knew what I should do with them.

I would kill them. There was no need to leave the seeds of future trouble behind.

I summoned my sword from my storage ring. I brandished it several times, flashes of light dancing across the blade.

The children fell backward in fear, yet they still held their ground, glaring at me with hostile eyes as if they had no intention of taking back their words.

’’Henry, please stop. Otherwise, you’ll see your wife die right here, right now.’’

I frowned and glanced at my wife, who was staring at me with her usual red, teary eyes. Beside her, the knife hovered just two centimeters from her temple, ready to stab her at any moment.

She cried,

’’P-Please. I’m begging you. I don’t want you to do this. They’re just children. They’re innocent.’’

I sighed.

’’Are you sure? They’ll become a problem in the future. I’m afraid they might even follow in their grandfather’s footsteps.’’

My wife sniffled as she cried.

’’I’ll take responsibility. But right now, they’re still innocent, so please....’’

I couldn’t help but click my tongue in annoyance. Then I nodded calmly and dismissed my sword.

’’Fine. Just don’t make me clean up your mess later, my little crybaby princess. ’’

Anyway, I believed that even if the children became troublesome in the future, I could still handle them. Killing them and driving my wife to commit suicide wasn’t a good idea right now. She was incredibly stubborn, so I could tell she might do it as soon as I finished the children off.

...

’’AAAHHH!...’’

My wife and I grimaced and turned toward the source of the painful scream.

Our eyes widened for a moment.

I simply sighed and scratched the back of my head, showing no emotion. Meanwhile, my wife seemed devastated. Her eyes turned hollow as she lowered her head.

Two children lay dead.

My cold gaze fixed on Li, who was standing over their bodies with a bloodied knife in her hand.

’’Why did you do that? Are you disobeying my orders?’’

Li lowered her head apologetically.

’’I’m your sword, so I’ll always do the dirtiest things for you. It’s all for your benefit, and Madam’s as well. Regarding my disobedience, I’ll accept any punishment you give me, even death.’’

I blinked a few times before ordering Li to take care of the rest of the mess. Afterward, I headed over to my wife and wheeled her back to the academy.

A few hours later, after we arrived at our dormitory room, I asked,

’’Do you want to take a bath?’’

After what had happened in the alley, we were covered in dirt, and the foul smell still clung to our bodies.

My wife’s eyes regained a little color. She simply nodded wearily and said,

’’I want to take a bath with you.’’

I raised an eyebrow in surprise. It was the first time she had said something like that to me so boldly.

I nodded and carried her to the bathroom. Then I helped her take off her clothes, one piece at a time.

...

An hour later.

The two of us walked out of the bathroom and into the bedroom. I carried her to the bed before lying down beside her.

I stared at the ceiling, thinking about the [Blood Crystal Stones]. What should I do with them?

But then, my wife crawled closer to me.

She slowly lifted her arm and wrapped it around me. Her soft, big breasts pressed gently against my side. Her head rested against my bare, muscular chest, her warm breath brushing against it.

Perhaps she just needed some comfort. I simply sighed as my left hand gently stroked her bare back, while the other ran through her soft blonde hair.

Then, my hand reached for hers before intertwining our fingers. I applied a little pressure, a hint of surprise appearing on my face. Her fingers moved slightly, though they were still trembling.

’’Looks like your recovery is going very well.’’

Ting!

[Congrats! You’re completed the misson.]

A faint smile spread across my face as I stared at the virtual screen. A few seconds later, I let out a long yawn.

My eyelids began to grow heavy with sleep.

Eventually, I pulled the galaxy-patterned blanket over us before resting my face against my wife’s soft, big chest and drifting off to sleep.

The next morning, I carried a blood-soaked bag to Jonathan’s office and handed it to him. That was the bag I had asked Li to prepare yesterday.

His expression twisted with disbelief and shock as he opened the bag and saw the horrifying sight inside.

I said with a neutral voice.

’’500 credits for this head.’’

Jonathan grimaced.

’’A thousand credits isn’t enough for you?’’

I shrugged.

’’You have no right to refuse my request. I killed a dangerous criminal that the police and the Awakeners failed to catch. Of course, I deserve more credits.’’

Jonathan rubbed his forehead in frustration, but he still nodded. He waved his hand, shooing me away.

’’Just get out of my sight. I’ll transfer it to you later.’’

A visible wicked smile spread across my face as I bowed my head.

"Thank you for everything you’ve done for me."
