Chapter 42: 300 kilograms

One day passed. I sat in a chair, my eyes focused on the computer screen on the table.

I rubbed my chin as I assessed the map of DawnReach City on the screen.

My wife, nearby, wheeled herself over to me thanks to manipulating the wheelchair. Now she was able to move it without me, but for some reason, she still wanted me to wheel her around in some cases. Otherwise, she would sulk and cry again. It was quite annoying to me, and I agreed.

She asked curiously,

’’What are you doing?’’

I replied,

’’I’m just marking the sites of illegal [Blood Crystal Stone] production.’’

My wife frowned.

’’How did you get it?’’

I understood her surprise, but I didn’t explain much.

’’Li found it on Ronan’s computer.’’

My wife frowned even deeper, and her pupils widened for a moment. I guessed she had pieced everything together.

She sighed.

’’So... that explains everything.’’

She added,

’’You should hand the data over to the police instead of keeping it to yourself. What can you even do, even if you know where their places are?’’

I shrugged.

I didn’t intend to reveal my plan to my wife. It was for the future.

My wife didn’t ask any more questions. She simply said,

’’It’s up to you. Anyway, I’m not as wise as you.’’

Ring! Ring!

I picked up the phone.

[Li: Master, the target will leave DawnReach City at 12:00 a.m. From Block 4, AND Street, No. 232. I’ll send you the location.]

I asked,

[Does he have any Blood Crystal Stones with him?]

[Li: Sir, there are a lot of them in his car. I’d estimate around 300 kilograms.]

I smirked.

[Good. Keep monitoring him.]

[Li: Yes, Master.]

I put the phone on the table and approached the wardrobe. I needed to prepare a few things before departing.

My wife asked,

’’Where are you going?’’

I replied in a neutral tone.

’’It’s none of your business.’’

For some reason, my wife fell silent and didn’t ask any more questions. Her expression grew sad and weary.

Ting!

[Your wife is feeling discouraged by her own helplessness.]

[Encourage her instead of pushing her aside.]

[Mission: Take her with you.]

[Support Level: Medium]

[Warning: Protect her as best you can.]

[Suggestion: Try comforting her with a few sweet words.]

I rolled my eyes.

’’Fine, I’ll take you with me.’’

My wife’s eyes suddenly lit up with joy. She gave me a firm nod and smiled.

My face twitched a few times as I watched her change. I could tell she had learned how to control her emotions.

A few hours later, I arrived at the alley. I glanced at my watch before wheeling my wife over beside a trash bin.

I asked,

’’How many sewing needles can you manipulate?’’

My wife smiled smugly.

’’Not sewing needles. You should be asking what I can manipulate now.’’

’’I can manipulate a knife and a lot of sewing needles. They’ll be a big help to you.’’

I lingered for a moment.

"So, how’s that weakness of yours?"

My wife bit her upper lip before answering.

’’Don’t worry. Every day, I’ve been trying to recover from that shock. Now, at least, seeing blood doesn’t bother me anymore.’’

I nodded before taking out the large cloth I had prepared and draping it over her. Then I sat beside her.

Around thirty minutes later, a car finally pulled out of the nearby underground parking garage. I could see Ronan carrying each crate of stones into the car.

My eyes remained fixed on the target as I waited for the signal from Li. As soon as a painful scream echoed through the alley, I rushed toward Ronan, who was kneeling on the ground with a bloody wound on his neck. He was still alive.

I wasn’t surprised. Even if Li’s sneak attack couldn’t finish him off in a single blow, that was why I had told her to strike as soon as the timing was right.

She had failed. Now she would have to face Ronan’s rage. But I was here to take over.

I delivered a brutal kick to Ronan’s head, but he still reacted in time and dodged to the side. His face twisted with anger as he tried to stop the bleeding from his neck.

’’Damn you! I was wondering how I got exposed so easily. Turns out there was a sneak rat by my side all along.’’

I said nothing and charged at him alongside Li.

We relentlessly pressured him, leaving him no chance to catch his breath.

I unleashed a series of complicated movements and deadly strikes. Whenever I missed, my blows crushed everything behind him.

I calmly blocked a flurry of his punches before countering with a twisting motion of my hand, creating an invisible force that tore apart his left arm.

He roared in pure agony, glaring at me with bloodshot eyes.

Just as he was about to do anything to stab me with his knife, my wife’s knife pierced through his head from behind, the blade bursting out through the front as blood trickled down.

Ronan’s eyes turned hollow as streams of blood ran down his face.

Eventually, he collapsed and died.

I sighed as I saw my wife wheel herself toward me. She gazed at the corpse with a conflicted expression.

’’I thought he was a good man, but it turns out he was just a hypocrite.’’

I said,

’’That’s not unusual. In this world, a lot of people are willing to sell everything to get what they want.’’

I was about to move toward the car when two childish voices rang out from inside.

’’Grandfather! Grandfather!’’

My wife’s pupils widened for a moment.

’’Emma... Ella...?’’

Two children, their faces soaked with tears, rushed toward the corpse they called Grandfather. They threw their arms around him and cried uncontrollably, tears streaming down their faces as they clung tightly to his body.

’’Grandfather! Please, don’t die.’’

Their tearful eyes turned toward us. The sadness in them slowly gave way to pure hatred and anger.

’’Why? Why did you kill our grandfather... Big Brother? Big Sister? Why?’’
