Chapter 44: 1500 credits

I sat in my chair in the classroom, listening to Jonathan’s lecture. All the students were focused on every word he said, except me.

I checked my phone.

[Credits]: 1500 credits.

A smirk spread across my face before I put the phone on the table. Then I closed my eyes in concentration and focused on my thoughts.

[Blood Crystal Stones]

Right now, I had 300 kilograms of [Blood Crystal Stones] stored in my Storage Ring. They felt like a ticking time bomb that could explode at any moment.

I needed to get rid of them, but in the best way possible to maximize the benefits I would receive.

I would sell them tonight.

I didn’t have any buyers, but that didn’t matter. I already knew a place that dealt in [Blood Crystal Stones]—the black market.

However, finding the black market was never easy. They were experts at hiding within the city to stay out of the police’s sight. On top of that, they frequently changed locations to avoid being tracked. Besides, I believed they were paying a huge amount of money to the city to keep their business running smoothly.

Fortunately, I had their current location thanks to the data Ronan had stored on his computer. Of course, he had to know where it was. After all, he was also a supplier of illegal goods to the black market.

I nodded to myself before returning my attention to the lecture.

Soon, night fell.

In the dormitory room, I changed my clothes and made my preparations.

My wife asked me. There was a hint of worry and unease in her eyes.

’’Where are you going?’’

I glanced at her a few times before shaking my head. I couldn’t take her with me. The black market was no place to fool around, even for me right now.

I ordered Li,

’’Stay here. Keep an eye on my wife.’’

Li bowed her head.

’’Yes, Young Master.’’

Then, I gave my wife one last cold glance before leaving.

[POV]: Arthea.

I sighed as I leaned back against the wheelchair.

’’I think he’s bored of me.’’

I turned to Li and asked,

’’Do you think he’s gotten bored of me and found another girl too?’’

Li smiled and replied politely,

’’Madam, I think you’re overthinking. I can assure you that Young Master would never do that. He’s far too busy to be thinking about another woman.’’

She added,

’’As for whether he’s bored of you, only you and Master know the answer.’’

I frowned.

’’He’s busy? Do you know what my husband is doing? Tell me.’’

Li hesitated for a moment before replying uncertainly,

’’Based on my guess, I’d say he’s selling the [Blood Crystal Stones]. He ordered me to collect all the crates of stones from that criminal’s car.’’

My eyes widened in disbelief.

’’He’s crazy? Selling illegal goods? Does he want to spend the rest of his life in prison? That’s against the law!’’

However, when I thought about the way his mind worked, I wasn’t surprised at all.

He was the kind of person who maximized every opportunity, including his wife.

I let out a tired sigh before asking Li to wheel me to the bed.

’’He’ll be fine.’’

I believed in my husband’s abilities. He could accomplish anything with his brilliant mind, even if it was consumed by darkness.

Moreover, I had gradually come to accept my husband’s true nature, and I also needed to grow.

’’I’m kind of like him too. After all, I killed the grandfather of two innocent children.’’

My heart was slowly being corrupted by the cruelty of reality and my husband.

[POV]: Henry.

I hung a full-face mask over my face before clearing my throat a few times. I wanted to disguise my voice so no one would be able to recognize it later.

Now, I looked exactly like a thief instead of a model citizen of DawnReach City.

I stepped through the back door of a bar, where two muscular guards in black suits were standing.

I recalled the password from Ronan’s data and said,

’’A-2832901111.’’

Two muscular guards blinked for a while before nodding. They stepped aside, allowing me to go inside.

I could hear music and the buzz of conversations echoing throughout the place. Sexy girls were dancing around poles while the lights on the ceiling flashed nonstop.

But for some reason, it all felt fake. Everything seemed rather forced.

I continued deeper inside. The scenery gradually changed as everything began to flicker and blur, as if some piece of technology were malfunctioning.

Soon, countless stalls and small buildings appeared everywhere.

The people walking around wore full-face masks like mine. All of them kept their heads lowered, saying nothing, as if they were afraid their voices might be recognized.

In contrast to the usual noise of a bar, this place was completely silent.

Nearby, a voice blared from a loudspeaker instead of coming from the seller.

’’Cheap organs for sale. Ten thousand dollars for a kidney. Fifty thousand dollars for a cornea.’’

...

I glanced around several times before finding the place where Ronan usually sold [Blood Crystal Stones].

A few minutes later, I found the small building by its address.

I stepped inside and walked toward a row of chairs in the center of the building.

After waiting for ten minutes, a figure emerged from one of the rooms and glided toward me like a phantom.

I said in a disguised voice,

’’I want to sell Blood Crystal Stones.’’

The figure replied in a hollow voice,

’’Please, follow me.’’

I nodded and followed the figure into a room on the left. However, the moment I stepped inside, my eyes widened in surprise.

A man was hanging from a metal frame, both of his hands nailed in place, while blood streamed into two buckets below.

’’AAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!’’

He roared in pure agony as a naked, muscular man drove a brutal punch into his groin.

I recognized the man immediately. I had worked with him just a few days ago.

’’Carter?’’
