Chapter 839: Chapter 839. Impossible situation
"Shit," Kailen cursed.
These ostriches were rank 1 intermediate stage chaotic beasts. He could have dealt with a couple of them, but they numbered about 200.
There was no way he could handle all these creatures.
As he kept melding with the void and reappearing, he kept analysing the locality for any environmental factor he could use to deal with them.
However, he could not find anything.
"These creatures are approaching me. The wind cyclones carrying them are too fast. Even if I use the principle of space, it’s only a matter of time before they catch up to me," Kailen thought. "They will catch up to me before I reach the mountain. What do I do?"
Kailen thought.
The creatures were catching up. His figure kept disappearing and reappearing across the place as he was nearing the mountain.
"I guess I have no choice." A desperate idea flashed through his mind.
He wanted to use the lightning bolts that kept falling from the skies to deal with them.
"I guess it’s not that much of a bad idea."
Kailen stopped moving all of a sudden.
Several professors and students had started to pay attention to his stream. He was not the only one being paid attention. Every participant was extraordinary. So, someone was definitely paying attention to them.
At this point, some participants had already died though. The secret realm was dangerous after all.
Anyway, those paying attention to Kailen were puzzled.
Why was this fellow stopping?
The lightning bolts from above would kill him if they landed on him.
Also, the ostriches headed his direction were definitely too much for him to handle.
But, if he proceeded forward too, it was only a matter of time before the ostriches caught up to him and killed him.
No matter which angle one looked at it from, this guy did not have a way out.
Was he giving up? It made perfect sense.
They watched.
Kailen stood in one place.
"Though I’m not so confident with this theory, for a while now, the lightning bolts have been trying to get rid of me every thirty seconds. When it falls every thirty seconds, it strikes ten times before it disappears. Let’s bet on that."
The ostriches in the wind cyclone eventually arrived at where Kailen was.
Kailen melded with the void and reappeared right above them.
A large lightning bolt zipped from the skies and struck down.
Before a cyclone or an ostrich crushed into him, he disappeared and reappeared at a different spot, evading their attacks.
The lightning bolts kept zipping down consecutively, turning several ostriches into ashes, wind principle fragments appearing where they used to be.
The audience observing this was shocked.
So this was what this fellow was up to?
They realized Kailen’s plan.
This fellow was simply too crazy.
How did he even think of something like this?
And the guts it took to pull it off was over the charts. They had to admit that even for them, this would not have been easy.
One single mistake and he would die.
And... he was actually making it work.
He kept appearing and disappearing above the ostriches. The moment a lightning bolt fell, an ostrich or a cyclone was about to crash into him, he would disappear. The lightning bolt would crush into several ostriches and kill them, turning them into ashes.
The professors and students paying attention to his stream knew that he was operating solely on instinct and calculation.
What an interesting fellow. If he passed the entrance exams, he would become a threat.
Several cold glints flashed through several eyes.
The ostriches screeched. Several of them had been killed.
The lightning bolts were too terrifying.
Intelligent glints flashed through the eyes of the ostriches.
The prey they had been trying to catch was somehow having bad luck, leading the lightning to them.
No matter what they did too, he was too nimble to be caught by them.
It was not worth it.
One of them, the presumed leader, screeched.
There was no need to waste their time over just one prey.
The remaining 100 ostriches turned around and fled the place.
Kailen sighed deeply in relief as the ostriches left.
"That was a close call. The last thunder bolt should be falling now. Then, it will stop and fall again after another thirty seconds," he thought.
However, no lightning fell.
"Shit... the cycle has changed."
Kailen melded with the void and started reappearing randomly at different places.
Several bolts of lightning fell down in a disorderly manner he could no longer predict. He kept melding the void and reappearing. He stared into the distance, where the mountain was. He was getting nearer and nearer to it.
"I guess I was pretty fortunate the cycle I theorised did not change before I executed the plan. If not..."
Kailen did not even want to imagine how we would have died.
Very soon, he arrived at the edge of the mountain.
The moment he arrived at the edge of the mountain, the skies rumbled.
"That’s not a good sign. I need to find shelter."
Quickly, he used his principle of space to scan the place.
Kailen identified an empty cave somewhere in the mountain.
He melded with the void and disappeared. He appeared in the cave.
"This fellow is very adaptable. He really figured out a way out of his impossible situation? If he passes this entrance exams, he will attract a lot attention in the academy."
Several professors thought so.
As for the students paying close attention to him, they only saw him as a threat to be eliminated if he passed the entrance exams. This was how the academy was. If a fellow student was stronger, no one would touch them. But if someone of equal strength, or someone weaker was a threat, they were prey waiting to be slaughtered.
Kailen naturally did not know what was happening in the minds of some students and what some professors were thinking of him.
The moment he entered the cave, the mountain shook exceedingly as gigantic bolts of lightning struck it. However, the mountain stood firm.
"That would have killed me," Kailen thought.
Fortunately, he didn’t let his guard down. He found cover the moment he arrived on the mountain.
"It looks like the mountain can resist the lightning for now. If it were possible, I would probably stay here till the end of the three year period. But, it’s only a matter of time before the mountain collapses, and I’m directly exposed to the lightning" Kailen thought. "I guess the plan remains the same. I need to find a way up the mountain and see what creature is causing me this trouble. If I don’t identify them, study them and figure out a way to adapt to their attacks or deal with them, journeying across this desolate place will be too risky."
