Chapter 840: Chapter 840. Greed

"How do I climb this mountain, considering the lightning?" Kailen thought.

"Perhaps I could spot empty caves across the mountain and climb along their locations. I could climb for a while and stay in a cave for a while, then resume climbing for a while," he thought. "This will reduce the risk of being pulverized by lightning, though it won’t completely prevent it. But if I don’t take this risk, something worse could happen."

Kailen used his principle of space to scan across the large mountain.

He made sure to identify several uninhabited caves along the mountain.

As for the inhabited caves, they were full of slumbering terrifying chaotic beasts Kailen did not have any business waking up or offending.

Kailen melded with the void and disappeared from the cave.

He started climbing along the mountain, passing by routes where uninhabited caves were.

He limited his use of the principle of space because some of the creatures in the inhabited caves had the principle of space, and he did not want them to sense his spatial ripples and identify him.

The moment he heard a rumble from the clouds, he would stop and enter a cave, just in case lightning was about to fall.

After a while, he would resume his ascent.

For a long time, no lightning fell.

When Kailen was halfway up the mountain, a large lightning bolt struck near him.

Kailen gritted his teeth. It seemed he had to risk it now.

Despite the fact that some creatures with the principle of space were in the occupied caves, and could discover him if he used the principle of space, he had no other choice but to use the principle of space now. If he did not resort to this method, the next time a lightning bolt hit, he would die.

He could have used space to envelope himself from the attacks, but the lightning attacks were too powerful. It would break through any spatial principle method he used to protect himself if he tried, and eventually, it would pulverize him to death.

The only way forward was to ensure that the lightning never came into contact with him.

His figure kept blinking in and out of existence as he kept climbing the mountain.

Eventually, the creatures with the principle of space lurking in the caves noticed him. They included rat looking creatures, cheetah looking creatures, draconic looking creatures, insect looking creatures among others. They were all very large and intimidating.

Several of them came out of the caves and started following him.

It was a very daunting sight.

A glint of wariness flashed through Kailen’s eyes. However, he was very calm. He had been through worse situations. The kind of daunting simulations and pocket world experiences he had in the pocket world when he was in the light region of the universe, alongside the daunting adventures he had in the light region before he became a Transcendent, had shaped him to treat daunting situations like any other occurrence. Coupled with his levelheaded and calm personality, he would not make wrong judgments in such situations.

A very large spatial sword sliced towards Kailen from behind, as a thunderbolt also shot towards him from the sky.

Kailen took a step forward.

He melded with the void and disappeared.

The lightning bolt that had aimed for him zipped through the creature that launched the spatial sword towards him, turning it into a charred corpse.

The other creatures hesitated to follow after Kailen on seeing what had happened to their counterpart.

Kailen took advantage of this opportunity to widen the distance between him and the creatures.

They decided to pursue him after a moment of hesitation.

However, by the time they melded with the void and reappeared several heights ahead, along the mountain, he was nowhere to be found.

They screeched one last time in anger, then turned and climbed down to their caves.

Kailen sneaked out of a distant cave after the creatures left, then continued his ascent.

Eventually, he arrived on the mountain peak. The moment Kailen arrived on the mountain peak, the lightning bolts ceased.

Those paying attention to his stream felt like they were watching some sort of thriller movie.

What sort of dangerous situations did this guy keep getting into?

And to think he would always find a way to deal with them.

Who the hell was this guy?

As for Kailen, he did know he was garnering a lot of attention, neither did he care.

When he arrived on the mountain peak, there was only flat ground on the mountain peak. There was however, a staircase that led up into the thick ominous clouds.

A glint of realization flashed through Kailen’s eyes.

"There must be some sort of reward at the top of the staircase. But I’m guessing in order to get the reward, I will have to deal with the creature at the top of the staircase. All the same, it still aligns with my plans. As for why the attacks have stopped, it’s probably because the creature behind it might have fallen asleep. I don’t see any other reason to explain it."

Kailen took a step and landed on the staircase.

As he climbed the staircase, he encountered some rank 1 intermediate stage chaotic beasts on the stairs. He did not waste any time trying to deal with them.

He would simply meld with the void and reappear ahead of them.

Eventually, Kailen arrived at the top of the stairs.

It was somewhere in the skies.

A large gorilla looking creature could be seen seated in a lotus posture in the clouds, radiating an air of grandeur and quiet authority. Several streams of lightning would dance around its figure from time to time.

A principle fragment was hovering in front of the creature.

Kailen noticed the lightning principle fragment was turning slightly ethereal from time to time.

"This is definitely the creature that has been causing me a headache all this while. It seems the reason why it stopped attacking me was because it’s comprehending lightning principle profundities from this lightning principle fragment. It’s a rank 2 intermediate stage chaotic beast. No wonder it’s so terrifying. It looks like I can’t kill it. Neither can I observe its attack patterns," Kailen mused.

"It won’t be moving for a while. I should find whatever reward is ahead, then use the time it’s in seclusion to get the hell out of this desolate place," Kailen thought.

He moved through the clouds and arrived at a different location.

Several principle fragments shimmered across the place.

Four space principle fragments hovered among the other principle fragments here.

A glint of greed flashed through Kailen’s eyes.
