Chapter 63: Chapter 62: A Desperate Flight
’Well, damn. This guy must have a death wish.’
’You managed to get away last time you were hunting Liu Xingxing, and you still dare to come back? To disturb my sleep!’ ƒrēewebnoѵёl.cσm
Woken from a deep sleep, Li Ziyu was in a foul mood.
"Undead, awaken!"
Li Ziyu rose to his feet and spread his arms, letting out a low, furious roar. Within the dark Castle Main Tower, countless Soul Fires ignited. The Undead sensed their City Lord’s rage and, at his call, they awoke...
...
"Faster, faster!"
"Damn it, why are those bastards still chasing me!"
The pig-faced Yu Gangbo roared with anxiety from within his Castle Main Tower. He kept glancing back behind his fortress, where a huge horde of goblins was in hot pursuit of the Mobile Fortress.
Even though they were goblins, he was anything but happy. The ones riding dog-like creatures weren’t his subordinates—they were his enemies.
The last ambush by the Undead had left him severely weakened. He had spent the last few days trying to find resources to expand his goblin forces, but before he could, he’d been ambushed by wild goblins instead.
The wild goblins attacking him seemed like a different species entirely, nothing like the ones he summoned from his fortress. Not only were they more numerous, but they came in different varieties. There were normal goblins, hulking, tall goblins, and even a large contingent of cavalry!
’How the fuck do goblins have cavalry?’
Yu Gangbo’s goblins couldn’t stand a single blow. They were routed almost instantly. Some died, some were wounded, and some were even trying to abandon the fortress to flee. If he hadn’t acted decisively and used his City Lord’s authority to force the goblins to hold steady while he fled in the fortress, he’d probably be a corpse by now.
Even so, he couldn’t shake the goblins’ pursuit. The cavalry was fast and stuck to him relentlessly. Fleeing in a panic, he hadn’t noticed that his escape route was leading him straight to the Undead’s territory from their last encounter.
When he finally got a clear look at the towering Skeleton Fortress, Yu Gangbo wasn’t alarmed. He was overjoyed. He pointed at the edifice of white bone and yelled, "Quick, head that way!"
’That’s right.’ The first thing he thought of upon seeing the Undead Architecture was to pit his enemies against each other. He’d make those damned wild goblins attack the Undead. ’It’d be perfect if they destroy each other,’ he thought. Then he could get his revenge. It would be killing two birds with one stone.
...
"Boss, something doesn’t feel right. Why does that guy have so many troops?" Liu Xingxing asked, confused. She and Li Ziyu were watching from a window in the Castle Main Tower.
From their vantage point, the Goblin Fortress led the way at the very front. Behind it, in a cloud of dust, countless figures stirred—clearly a massive force. Even Liu Xingxing, who had grown up in an era of peace and never experienced war, could see that much.
’I don’t care how many of them there are. I’m pissed. I worked all night, and they won’t even let me get a decent night’s sleep? Fine. They can all become Undead!’
’I won’t leave a single bone behind!’
"Engage!"
From his lack of sleep, Li Ziyu’s head was pounding. It felt like an overinflated balloon was swelling painfully inside his skull. This only made him angrier. His eyes were bloodshot and crimson. Ignoring Liu Xingxing’s words completely, he gave the order directly to the Undead.
At his command, the Undead poured out, forming a line to block the path of the approaching Goblin Fortress.
As the Goblin Fortress drew nearer, Li Ziyu’s expression grew more savage. He raised his hand and chopped it down, his voice a near-roar. "Charge! Annihilate them! Tear that fortress apart and bring me its City Lord!"
Beneath the blazing sun, the Undead surged forward like a white tide, sweeping toward the charging Goblin Fortress.
Yu Gangbo watched the Undead swarm toward him and gritted his teeth. "Don’t stop! Ram through them! If we can break through, we’ll live! Charge—"
Caught between two ruthless enemies, the goblins inside the fortress went berserk. They shrieked wildly, steering the fortress to meet the Undead head-on.
The Skeleton Undead weren’t intelligent, but they weren’t entirely mindless either. They weren’t foolish enough to ram their own bones against an enemy’s Mobile Fortress. As the Goblin Fortress charged, the Undead parted to the sides, then latched onto the fortress and began to swarm madly up its walls.
The rest of the Undead turned to meet the pursuing Goblin Cavalry. In an instant, bones went flying, and the air filled with the unending, wretched howls of the Goblin Cavalry.
"AAAAH—"
Yu Gangbo shrieked as his Goblin Fortress, completely ignoring the Undead clambering over it, charged straight for the main tower of the Undead Fortress. At such high Speed, turning was impossible. All they could do was brace for impact.
BOOM—
The violent collision sent the Castle Main Tower shaking violently. Li Ziyu barely kept his footing by grabbing onto the windowsill. Behind him, Liu Xingxing was sent tumbling like a gourd, rolling several times before crashing into a wall and coming to a dazed stop.
"Madman! You really do have a death wish! Skeleton Warriors, deploy!"
The Skeleton Warriors, who had just been summoned the previous night, charged out of the main tower and toward the Goblin Fortress.
’Li Ziyu hadn’t wanted to deploy the Skeleton Warriors. He needed them as bodyguards; who knew if the enemy might send assassins? But now... the enemy had just rammed a fortress into his. Clearly, they were aiming for a fight to the death. What was the point of holding back a defense? It was time to go all-in.’
The Goblin Cavalry that had been chasing the Goblin Fortress never expected to run into Undead. The moment the two sides clashed, the battlefield erupted into chaos.
Their "cavalry" were just ordinary goblins on dog-like creatures. With their small stature, they could never ride mounts like horses, so dogs were a perfect fit. Their weapons were the same as any normal goblin’s, giving them no advantage against the Undead. freёwebnovel.com
The Undead didn’t stop to consider whether they were facing cavalry, infantry, or something else entirely. All that mattered was their City Lord’s command: kill them. So kill them they would. It didn’t matter if they were goblins or dogs—everything would die!
No sooner would a goblin smash one Undead to pieces than three more would pounce, dragging the goblin from its dog-like mount and hacking it to death with a flurry of blades.
Something—be it blood, souls, or some other stimulus—provoked the Undead. They opened their maws and let out a silent, furious roar: a Soul Roar!
A Formless wave pulsed outward, striking everything around them. The goblins’ very souls trembled in terror, their bodies shivering and stiffening as their eyes went blank. While the goblins were trapped in this confused state, the Undead attacked again.
There weren’t many cavalry to begin with, only about fifty of them. Under the assault of hundreds, if not thousands, of Undead, they were quickly submerged. But the cavalry was just the vanguard. Their high speed had separated them from the main force; more goblins were on their way.
The Undead, however, were unaware that more goblins were coming. Having dealt with the cavalry, they turned, their flickering Soul Fires fixing on the Goblin Fortress. The City Lord had ordered it torn down. They began to march, surrounding the fortress in layer after layer.
The Goblin Fortress had crashed into the main tower of the Undead Fortress. The impact nearly threw Yu Gangbo from his feet; he had it even worse than Liu Xingxing. When he finally staggered upright, his vision was full of stars. He took a moment to recover, his ears ringing with the sounds of battle and screams. He looked up to see a scene of utter chaos.
The Undead had come. They were boarding the fortress and fighting the goblins. No, this wasn’t a fight. It was a one-sided slaughter. The Undead were simply hunting the goblins.
’It’s over. The battle is lost.’ Yu Gangbo’s face went ashen, his heart filled with despair.
