Chapter 64: Chapter 63: Destroy the Fortress

Could the goblins stop the Undead? freёweɓnovel.com

Was that even a question? Of course not. There was no way they could hold them off. The idea that his handful of troops could stop the Undead’s assault was a complete joke. Forget the present—even in his so-called "prime," hadn’t he been crushed by the Undead? And that was before he’d just been ambushed by wild goblins and lost over half his forces.

Yu Gangbo had intended to pull a clever maneuver, diverting the disaster and killing two birds with one stone. But he overestimated his goblins’ ability to pilot the fortress. Their course went awry, and they slammed straight into the Undead’s fortress, essentially delivering themselves right to their doorstep. How could that possibly end well?

A portion of them had been killed by the Undead, and another portion had died in the ambush. Now, only a few dozen goblins remained in the fortress. Facing hundreds, if not thousands, of Undead radiating pure killing intent, they had no fighting spirit left to speak of. They were the type to bully the weak and fear the strong. With superior numbers, they might act high and mighty, but now, they were utterly routed, casting off their armor and fleeing like beaten dogs.

As for their City Lord? What was a City Lord?

Survival was all that mattered. Who had time to worry about whether the City Lord lived or died? If their City Lord’s death could guarantee their own survival, they would be the first to kill him.

The Skeleton Warriors had already boarded the fortress. Sensing the small number of living auras inside, the rest of the Undead gave up on competing for kills and instead began to dismantle the structure.

The Goblin Fortress was cobbled together from wooden planks, so it wasn’t difficult to take apart. A few Undead working together could pry a plank loose, pull it out, and toss it aside. These planks could be recycled, which was why it was said that even a rookie’s fortress was a valuable asset.

The main tower of the Goblin Fortress.

A goblin, fleeing in a blind panic, scurried on its short legs, its face a mask of terror. It tried to rush into the main tower to escape the chase, but just as one leg crossed the threshold, its head was seized. A Bone Saber swept across its neck. The world spun, and then consciousness plunged into Darkness.

The High Level Skeleton Warrior entered the main tower step by step, dangling the goblin’s head from its hand. Its flickering Soul Fire settled on Yu Gangbo, who was slumped on the ground, completely despondent. The Warrior gestured with its Bone Saber, and two Low Level Skeleton Warriors immediately emerged from behind it. They seized Yu Gangbo by the arms and started to drag him out.

"No! Let me go!"

"I don’t want to go with you!"

"Let go! Let go of me! I’m a Transmigrator! I’m a City Lord!"

"I’m begging you, don’t do this! Spare me!"

"Don’t take me away! I know your City Lord! Really, I know him! We’re good friends..."

Yu Gangbo kicked his legs wildly and strained against their grip, trying to break free from the Undead’s hold. He rambled incoherently, spouting all sorts of nonsense, but the Undead paid him no mind, simply continuing to drag him away.

However, the man was fat and heavy, and with all his struggling, the two Low Level Skeleton Warriors were actually finding it difficult. The High Level Skeleton Warrior saw this and tilted its head, as if in thought. Its gaze fell upon Yu Gangbo’s legs. It stepped forward and swung its Bone Saber.

"AHHH..."

Blood sprayed. Yu Gangbo let out a horrific scream as his eyes rolled back in his head, the pain causing him to faint.

That solved it. With no more resistance, the task became much easier for the two Low Level Skeleton Warriors. They dragged Yu Gangbo away, leaving a long trail of blood on the ground behind them.

Outside the main tower, the battle was already over. The fortress was completely surrounded by the Undead; the goblins had nowhere to run. Those who remained on the fortress were slain by the Skeleton Warriors. Those who tried to flee were met by a dense sea of Undead, and died grisly deaths. Their bodies were collected and sent to the Undead Main Tower.

Just as Yu Gangbo was being dragged into the Undead Main Tower, the main load-bearing supports of the Goblin Fortress were pulled away. With a tremendous RUMBLE, it collapsed into a pile of wreckage.

Yu Gangbo was brought before Li Ziyu. The long trail of blood made Liu Xingxing jump. When he saw the bloody, mangled stumps where the man’s legs had been cut off, he couldn’t take it anymore and ran to the side to retch.

Li Ziyu shot him a glance, completely unconcerned. His Undead had killed countless creatures recently, of all shapes and sizes. They’d killed humanoids, too, like the Lizardmen. He was used to it by now.

’So what if his legs were cut off? What’s there to be shocked about?’ Every time the Undead finished a slaughter, the bodies were brought before him. Severed limbs and torsos would be piled high into a small mountain. The first time he saw it, he’d puked far more violently than Liu Xingxing ever did.

"Wake him up," Li Ziyu said, his face cold and expressionless.

Two Low Level Skeleton Warriors held Yu Gangbo upright. The High Level Skeleton Warrior stepped forward, grabbed his head, and began slapping him repeatedly, back and forth. SLAP! SLAP! SLAP!

Yu Gangbo was already chubby-faced, but after the beating, his head swelled up like a balloon. It did, however, wake him up. His eyes were swollen into slits, and tears streamed down his face. ’It hurts. It fucking hurts. I’ve never been slapped around like this in my entire life.’ And his legs... at the thought of his legs, the tears flowed even more fiercely.

Li Ziyu stepped forward and crouched down, staring coldly at Yu Gangbo. "You’ve got a lot of nerve. Once wasn’t enough for you, you had to come back for seconds? What’s the matter? Did you think that just because the rain stopped and the sun came out, you were hot shit again? Or did you think I couldn’t lift my sword anymore, so you could just float on over?"

"What were you thinking? Was I too easy on you? Did that make you think you could be so damn audacious?"

After he finished puking, Liu Xingxing hid off to the side, shrinking into a corner. He could feel a powerful wave of resentment and fury emanating from his boss.

He couldn’t quite tell. ’Is the boss angry because we were attacked, or because he was woken up? Or... is it both?’

’An angry boss is terrifying. I’d better keep my distance,’ Liu Xingxing thought, watching Li Ziyu from afar.

Yu Gangbo’s face was swollen, red, and shiny. He could only manage to pucker his lips as he struggled to explain, "I’m sorry. I was wrong. Please spare me."

"Tsk. Do you take me for an idiot? Last time, you ran away. Fine. I even let you go, didn’t chase you down. But this time? You slammed right into me. A head-on collision! And you expect me to spare you? So you can come back with another horde of goblins to ram me again?" Li Ziyu said through clenched teeth.

’The more I think about it, the angrier I get. The bastard actually thought he could take me on, fight me to the death. He didn’t even stop to consider if he was qualified. Who the hell did he think he was, charging at me like that? Since I transmigrated, no one has ever had the balls to pull a Dragon Rider face-rush on me. He really thought he was something special.’

Li Ziyu hadn’t wanted to casually make a move against another Transmigrator. They were from the same world, after all; there should be some sense of kinship. The Dark Jungle Law was real, but that didn’t mean he enjoyed being ruthless. Look at Liu Xingxing—the kid had literally dug him out of the ground, and he’d still spared his life.

But this guy? He was completely clueless. Li Ziyu had let him go once, hadn’t even pursued him, and the guy had turned right around to try and kill him. It was a classic case of biting the hand that feeds you.

This also served as a reminder to Li Ziyu: from now on, it was best to tie up loose ends. There would always be ungrateful bastards who mistook mercy and kindness for weakness.

’Better to create less trouble for myself. One troublemaker like Liu Xingxing is more than enough.’

He stood up and waved his hand. "Dispose of him."

The Goblin Fortress had been dismantled. Once Yu Gangbo died, he was dead for good—there was no coming back. A City Lord’s life was bound to their Mobile Fortress. With the fortress gone, the City Lord would die. Even if Li Ziyu didn’t kill him, he was finished.

Just as the Undead were about to carry out the order, Yu Gangbo suddenly let out a squeal like a pig being slaughtered. "Wait! Don’t kill me! I have information! Important information—a matter of life and death!"
