Chapter 130: Chapter 106: You Threaten Me
"It’s true. Everything Mengmeng said is true." Meng Ni muttered to herself, gazing at the Skeleton Architecture rising from the ground in the distance.
She had followed her sister’s tracks to this area and watched with her own eyes as Minotaurs captured her sister, taking her to a platform in the distance. She was still trying to figure out a rescue plan when a cluster of buildings suddenly appeared on the once-empty platform.
Buildings constructed from white bone—a single glance was enough to inspire fear. No other Race would have such architecture; only the Undead, the antithesis of all living things, could create something like this.
The sight of real Undead threw Meng Ni into a panic.
If it were only the Minotaurs, she could still think of a way to rescue her. But now there were Undead. ’How can I possibly save my sister?’
The thought of her sister trapped in there brought tears to her eyes. Meng Ni took a deep breath, forcing them back. ’This isn’t the time to cry. I have to think of a way.’ She tightened her grip on the Stone Saber at her waist.
Her ears twitched. She faintly heard the sound of playful romping. Following the noise, she saw two young Minotaurs chasing each other, having wandered off the Bone Plate Platform for some reason.
Meng Ni gritted her teeth. ’I’m sorry,’ she thought, drawing the Stone Saber from her waist and creeping silently toward them.
...
「Castle Main Tower, Skeleton Hall.」
Mengmeng followed Zhang Peng into the hall, her small body trembling. She kept looking around, her eyes filled with panic, feeling as if the skulls on the walls were watching her.
Suddenly, one of the skulls turned, startling a scream out of her. "Ah!"
"Whoa, you scared me! Don’t be so jumpy! Haven’t you been here before?" Liu Xingxing, who was following behind, clutched his chest and grumbled.
Pressing her lips together, the Little Cat Girl didn’t answer him. Her gaze on the walls grew even more terrified.
’The ones on the walls are Undead! Every single one!’
’The last time I was here, I was too panicked to notice. This time I see them clearly, and my heart feels like it’s going to burst.’
Her sixth sense was screaming that she was surrounded by danger. She wanted to turn and run. And yet... this was the territory of the Undead. Escape was impossible. Mengmeng knew this well, so she could only brace herself and walk deeper inside.
When she reached the place she had been last time, Mengmeng looked up and saw the Master of the Undead slumped in his chair, rubbing his temples, looking completely undignified.
"Boss, I’ve brought her." Zhang Peng bowed, spoke his piece, and then stepped aside.
Li Ziyu opened his eyes and silently looked at the Little Cat Girl, then at Liu Xingxing. He took a breath and sat up a little straighter, though he still looked lethargic.
Liu Xingxing felt there was a hint of malice in the way the boss glanced at him. ’Boss, it wasn’t my idea to wake you! It was Zhang Peng!’
’Zhang Peng, you bastard! You screwed me over again!’
"You said you have intelligence for me? Speak." Being woken from a deep sleep by Liu Xingxing had left his head groggy and throbbing as if it were overinflated. That, combined with his morning grumpiness, made Li Ziyu’s tone frigid.
The Little Cat Girl shivered. She cautiously observed the Master of the Undead, noticing his dark expression, his emotionless face, his sharp gaze, and his tone, which was completely different from the gentle one before. Anxiously, she stammered, "I... I have important intelligence. If I tell you, can you give me some meat?"
"Hm?" With a cold grunt, Li Ziyu sat up straight. The unconscious movement put even more pressure on the Little Cat Girl, making her collapse to the floor.
Zhang Peng’s gaze swept over the surrounding walls, and he breathed a sigh of relief. ’The boss isn’t angry. Otherwise, the Skeleton Undead in the walls wouldn’t be so calm.’
The Undead were far more attuned to Li Ziyu’s emotions than they were. When the City Lord raged, the Undead entered a Frenzy.
’This is something I’ve observed over the past few days,’ Zhang Peng thought. ’I don’t need to pay too much attention to Li Ziyu’s expression; I have to learn to read the Undead. The Undead are much simpler than Humans. They don’t speak, but you can glean a lot from the activity of their Soul Fire.’
Li Ziyu hadn’t expected a single move from him to scare the Little Cat Girl so badly. He realized his morning temper was getting the better of him. ’I shouldn’t be scaring a child.’ He tilted his head, making an effort to rein in his irritation, and forced a gentle smile.
The smile, though a bit practiced, was like solid ice melting for Mengmeng. It felt like warm sunshine spreading across the land, dispelling some of her fear. She recovered her senses and let out a long breath.
As the number of his Undead grew, Li Ziyu’s aura had also unknowingly grown stronger. He didn’t feel it himself, and even Liu Xingxing didn’t sense it, but to the Little Cat Girl, it was incredibly obvious.
He raised his hand and snapped his fingers. Soon, a Skeleton Undead brought over roasted meat and, following Li Ziyu’s instructions, placed it in front of the Little Cat Girl, who was still sitting on the floor.
"Go on, eat. You can talk while you eat. As long as your intelligence is useful, I don’t mind giving you some food," Li Ziyu said to the Little Cat Girl with a lift of his chin.
Mengmeng stared at the roasted meat and swallowed hard, temporarily forgetting her fear. She reached out, grabbed the meat, and took a huge bite. Her cheeks bulged as she chewed with all her might, a satisfied expression appearing on her face as the aroma filled her mouth.
’This roasted meat is so good!’
After a few more bites, she picked up the water an Undead had brought, took a sip to wash down the meat in her mouth, and then looked up. "Master of the Undead, I saw the Alliance Army."
That single sentence immediately put everyone present on high alert. They all looked at her in astonishment.
Li Ziyu’s eyes narrowed, but the smile on his face didn’t change. He gave Zhang Peng a subtle glance. Over the past few days, Zhang Peng had been very diligent, not only re-establishing contact with his old business allies but also scouting for information everywhere. He had shown particular talent in matters of commerce and intelligence.
