Chapter 114: Chapter 100: Making the Soul Coffin
"Oh, right, the forbidden land. That’s what Tas Tuling called it, too," Liu Xingxing said matter-of-factly. He looked at Zhang Peng, a little confused. ’What’s there to be so surprised about?’
A forbidden land! That’s a forbidden land!
’Why do you make it sound like just some ordinary mountain? People die there!’
’Are you really that reckless?’
Zhang Peng silently stared at Liu Xingxing, screaming internally.
"Hey? What’s with that look? It’s so weird. Don’t look at me like that, it’s creepy," Liu Xingxing said with a grimace, shivering.
Zhang Peng’s expression didn’t change, his meaning clear: ’If you don’t explain yourself, I’m just going to keep staring at you like this.’
That stare, combined with his haggard appearance that suggested he could drop dead from exhaustion at any moment, gave him the air of a sleep-deprived mental patient about to shank someone.
Zhang Peng’s stare made his skin crawl, and feeling utterly uncomfortable, Liu Xingxing couldn’t help but squirm. He rubbed his arms vigorously. "Alright, alright, I’ll tell you about it. Actually, I was the one who discovered this place..."
While Liu Xingxing was telling Zhang Peng how they had come to the Wraith Mountain Range and discovered the cavern, Li Ziyu had already arrived at the very same cavern. Guided by the Undead, he walked into the heart of the mountain.
Inside the mountain, Skeleton Undead bustled about, continuously picking up Corpse Remains from the ground and loading them onto minecarts. The Corpse Remains were so numerous that even after they had transported over a hundred thousand units of Skeletons, the pile in the mountain’s heart showed no sign of diminishing.
Green orbs of light drifted about in mid-air—they were Ghosts. They observed the Undead, sometimes floating right beside them for a closer look. Trapped in the mountain’s heart for countless years, even the repetitive work of the Undead was enough to pique their interest.
Li Ziyu’s arrival livened up the burial ground. The King of the Wraith appeared, floating before him with several other Wandering Souls.
"Master of the Undead," the King of the Wraith greeted him with a nod.
"Your Majesty, King Borhan," Li Ziyu also nodded, returning the greeting with a smile.
"May I ask the purpose of your visit?" The King of the Wraith looked at Li Ziyu, but his gaze soon fell upon the Soul Coffin. He could sense a peculiar Power emanating from the box, one that drew him in with a sense of familiarity.
"What is that?!" Before an answer could be given, a Giant Demon-like Wandering Soul behind the King of the Wraith suddenly pointed at the Soul Coffin and demanded.
Li Ziyu glanced at the Giant Demon Wandering Soul, then back at the King of the Wraith. He had only ever communicated with the King of the Wraith before and didn’t recognize the others. However, to be standing with the king, this one was clearly no ordinary character.
The Wandering Souls within the mountain’s heart were not just Human; there were members of the Beastman Race as well. The numbers of Humans and the Beastman Race were split about fifty-fifty.
"This is a member of the Royal Family from the Giant Demon Race, from the former Beastman Kingdom," King Borhan of the Wandering Souls explained, turning slightly to introduce him.
The culture of the Beastman Race was quite different from that of Humans. They placed immense respect on Ancestors and bloodlines. Furthermore, the Beastman Race was composed of many different branches, so a nation formed by Beastmen often had one Emperor ruling over a group of Kings. The family of each King was considered the Royal Family of that particular Beastman branch.
The King of the Wraith, Borhan, was about to say more, but the Giant Demon Wandering Soul interrupted him with an impatient wave of his hand. "Names and all that, it doesn’t matter anymore. Our Kingdom is gone. Those empty titles are meaningless. I just want to know what that box is!"
"Before I tell you what this box is, I want to ask all you Kings: do you truly wish for release? If you had the chance to see the outside world again, would you take it?" Li Ziyu asked softly, his hand resting on the Soul Coffin as he looked at the crowd of Undead before him.
The Undead glanced at one another, a stir of excitement running through them. If they had the chance to get out and see the world, who the hell would want to be released? The outside world was so magnificent! The only reason they’d wanted release was to end their imprisoned existence. Even ants cling to life, to say nothing of them.
"You... you have a way to get us out?"
This time, even the King of the Wraith, Borhan, lost his composure.
