Chapter 163: Chapter 163: Changing the Dressing
Wen Yaozu looked up at Wen Ci and answered, "He went to the military district hospital to get his dressing changed. Before he left, he said he might be back late."
"Hm?"
Wen Ci was puzzled.
’Didn’t he say he was going to the military district hospital tomorrow to get his dressing changed?’
’And why would he be back late?’
Wen Ci’s brows knitted together. She wasn’t familiar with the military district hospital, though. She looked down at the homework Wen Yaozu was doing. "How’s it going? Is it difficult?"
"It’s not hard."
Wen Yaozu looked up, blinking. "Sis, when are we going to the state-owned restaurant? Are we ordering from the menu or getting the ready-made dishes?"
Provincial-level state-owned restaurants had two service styles. For the main dining hall, you’d choose from pre-cooked dishes. For a private room, you could have one of the restaurant’s chefs cook to order.
The private rooms were much more expensive, but you could get whatever dishes you wanted. The food in the main hall changed daily.
For instance, certain meat dishes were only available as specials on Tuesdays or Fridays.
Wen Ci glanced at the clock on the living room wall. It was eight minutes to three. They wouldn’t be eating until five-thirty anyway.
She poked Wen Yaozu’s head. "All you ever think about is food. How much weight have you even lost since you got here?"
Wen Yaozu puffed out his chest proudly. "At least thirty pounds."
"You? Thirty pounds?" Wen Ci gave him a once-over and scoffed. "You’re lucky if you’ve lost five."
Wen Yaozu exercised daily, but he was also going through a growth spurt and ate a ton.
"No way it’s only five pounds! I don’t believe you."
"Believe it or not."
Wen Ci sat on the sofa, shaking her head with a soft tsk.
’I wonder how Yu Qing is doing.’
’Yu Qing was the first friend she’d made in the Northwest Military Region. She’d even taken leave just to keep me company.’
’Oh, right.’
’I could pick out a few of the more brightly colored pieces from that batch of clothes I bought in the South and send them to Yu Qing.’
’As for why I’m not shipping them to the Northwest to sell...’
’I’d already done the math. Beijing, being the Capital, had a direct train line from the South. The Northwest was remote; shipping costs would be exorbitant, even just to the provincial capital.’
’And with how dusty the Northwest is, people there probably wouldn’t appreciate fashionable clothes anyway.’
’Most importantly, the Northwest is both remote and poor. People there aren’t likely to spend money on new clothes. To save money, most people just refashion their old clothes.’
-
Huo Jingyuan didn’t return until four o’clock.
The temperature outside had plummeted, and he had a jacket thrown on. His face was a stern, icy mask.
Wen Ci raised an eyebrow. "Oh, so you remembered the way home."
Huo Jingyuan: "..."
’Seeing Wen Ci, he couldn’t help but recall the awkward scene from earlier that afternoon. He had been in a state of barely suppressed arousal.’
’He’d had to use his hand to take care of the lust building inside him, but he never in a million years thought Wen Ci would walk in on him.’
’I should’ve just taken a cold shower.’
’In the end, he’d gotten too excited and torn open his wound, forcing him to go get the dressing changed ahead of schedule.’
’The military district hospital had his records, so while he was there for the dressing change, he went ahead and got a check-up too.’
Wen Yaozu asked, confused, "Sis, weren’t you just hoping he’d come back? Why are you being so sarcastic now that he’s here?"
"Nonsense. Was I being sarcastic?"
Wen Yaozu nodded without the slightest hesitation. "Yes."
Wen Ci let out a long sigh, picked up a worksheet from the table, and handed it to him. "Go to your room and do this."
"When I’m done, can we go to the state-owned restaurant for dinner?"
Wen Ci nodded.
"Alrighty, I’ll go do it right now!" Filled with new motivation, Wen Yaozu took the worksheet from Wen Ci and headed for his room.
He said as he walked, "We’re gonna have a feast tonight!"
