Chapter 162: Chapter 162: Not Allowed Upstairs

Huo Jingyuan’s face was grim as he released Wen Ci’s lips. He shouted toward the door, "You go get it. Then stay in the living room and do your homework. Don’t come upstairs again."

"Why?" Wen Yaozu asked, confused.

"Enough with the questions."

At that moment, Wen Ci took the initiative to wrap her arms around the man’s neck. Feeling the vein throbbing there, she chuckled softly. "Still angry?"

"I’m not," Huo Jingyuan flatly denied.

Immediately after, Huo Jingyuan felt Wen Ci’s legs hook around his waist. A lazy smile touched his lips. Listening to the sound of the rain falling outside, he spoke unhurriedly:

"Do you want to...?"

Because of Wen Yaozu’s presence, there were too many things they had to be mindful of.

This timely rain, just like the night before, meant they no longer had to worry. Even if the bed frame made a CREAK, no one would hear it.

The sound of the torrential downpour was enough to cover everything.

"No,"

Wen Ci’s answer was crisp.

She just wanted to take a nap, not do anything else. ’Daylight isn’t the time for such things. That sort of activity is better left for the dead of night. Besides, Huo Jingyuan is a patient.’

It wasn’t good for him to overindulge.

"Then I’ll keep collecting interest."

Huo Jingyuan looked down at her. In the dim room, Wen Ci’s eyes were clear and moist, like stars, her long lashes fluttering gently.

He once again kissed the corner of Wen Ci’s eye.

-

「Half an hour later.」

One second there was a torrential downpour, and the next, it stopped just like that.

The two of them stopped their intimate, lingering kisses. A new hickey had appeared on the man’s neck. A fire raged within him, and the veins on his temples throbbed.

"I’m going to wash my face."

He did just that.

The curtains were pulled open again. Outside, the sky was blanketed in dark clouds. The weather was completely different from the sunny skies from before, and the temperature seemed to have dropped several degrees.

Wen Ci straightened the wrinkles in her clothes.

She sat on the edge of the bed, feeling a little fortunate.

If she hadn’t decided to spend more time with Huo Jingyuan, she would have been with Second Brother Su, taking a cart of clothes to sell in a crowded place. Even if the clothes were packed in bags...

...a downpour that heavy would have ruined the entire cartload.

After a long while, Wen Ci noticed Huo Jingyuan still hadn’t come out, and she couldn’t help but frown. ’Huo Jingyuan didn’t get what he wanted... he wouldn’t be taking a cold shower while he’s supposedly just washing his face, would he?’

A patient with such serious injuries absolutely shouldn’t be taking cold showers.

Wen Ci was starting to regret not letting Huo Jingyuan have his way.

She walked to the bathroom door. Hearing no sound of a running shower, she was about to knock. ’We’re a married couple.’

’Is there any part of him I haven’t seen? Why be such a stranger?’

Wen Ci gripped the handle and opened the door. The moment she did, she heard a man’s low grunt and locked eyes with Huo Jingyuan for three seconds.

Her gaze wandered down involuntarily.

The tips of Wen Ci’s ears instantly flushed red. "I’m sorry!"

After saying that, she shut the door and returned to the bedside.

’Humiliating! This is so humiliating!’

’Huo Jingyuan was actually in the bathroom...’

’He totally could have asked me for help.’

But then again, Wen Ci thought about it carefully.

’It’s pretty normal for a man to do that sort of thing.’

She waited in the room a while longer, yawning repeatedly. She tilted her head, wondering, ’Is he still not done? Or is he too embarrassed to face me?’

’Forget it.’

Wen Ci lay down under the thin blanket. The rain had caused the temperature to drop several degrees.

Overcome with sleepiness, she couldn’t be bothered to wait for Huo Jingyuan to return.

-

「Waking from her nap.」

Wen Ci stretched lazily. Having had a full afternoon nap, she felt completely refreshed. Her gaze drifted to the empty space beside her in bed, and she wrinkled her nose.

’Where did that man run off to?’

She got out of bed, washed her face, and went downstairs. She saw Wen Yaozu still in the living room, working on his test papers. She looked around as she walked over to him and asked, "Where’s your brother-in-law?"
