Chapter 160: Chapter 160: Courting Death, Is It You?

The man didn’t answer. His gaze flickered to the courtyard gate. He raised a hand and patted her on the bottom, a smirk playing on his lips. "Because someone’s here."

When Huo Jingyuan’s large hand touched her bottom, her eyes went wide as saucers, and her cheeks flushed red in an instant. "Huo Jingyuan, are you trying to get yourself killed?"

’He actually spanked me.’

’The absolute nerve of him.’

"KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK—"

Just then, a knock sounded on the iron gate.

Wen Ci, her cheeks still flushed, turned to look toward the sound. She saw Su Guilan standing at the gate. Though it wasn’t locked, she hadn’t entered without permission and was waiting outside.

Wen Ci frowned.

She really disliked it when the Jiangs came and disturbed her peaceful life.

Huo Jingyuan nudged Wen Ci with his elbow and whispered, "Let her in."

"Mm."

’At least on the surface, I haven’t officially cut ties with my parents from the Jiang Family. If people in the family compound saw me refuse to let my own mother in, I’d become a public target.’

Wen Ci got up and opened the gate.

Su Guilan looked at Wen Ci with an appreciative gaze, a smile plastered on her face. "I heard from your father that you’re in business recently? You get your clothes from the Southern region, right? How much do you sell a piece for? What’s the profit margin?"

For a businessperson, profit was the most important thing. As a businesswoman from an older generation, she wanted to share some of her experience with Wen Ci to help her avoid common pitfalls.

Wen Ci asked, "What is it?"

"Nothing, I just wanted to see how you’re doing."

Wen Ci answered truthfully, "Nine yuan a jin."

"You sell it by the jin?"

Wen Ci really didn’t want to explain too much to Su Guilan. She wasn’t going to sell more clothes this afternoon because she wanted to spend the time with Huo Jingyuan.

Not to stand around chatting with Miss Jiang.

Wen Ci’s expression was indifferent as she spoke bluntly, "Excuse me, but I need to change Jingyuan’s dressings. If there’s nothing else, perhaps you should leave for now."

Hearing this, the smile on Su Guilan’s face froze. She blinked in disbelief. "I just got here, and you’re telling me to leave?"

"Unless you want to watch me change Jingyuan’s dressings?"

Su Guilan’s gaze swept over to Huo Jingyuan in his chair. Although a blanket covered him, the wounds wrapped in bandages on his body were still clearly visible.

For some reason, Su Guilan felt a pang of sadness, as if something was slipping away from the bottom of her heart.

"Alright, I’ll leave for now. Ah Ci, if there’s anything you don’t understand about business, you can come to me anytime."

"Mm."

Wen Ci’s tone was flat.

Once she was gone, Wen Ci walked back to the man’s side. The sunlight hit the corner of her eye, reflecting a bright light from her pupils.

Wen Ci slowly spoke, "Do you want to stay out here in the sun, or go back to the room?"

The small balcony off the second-floor room also got sun, but the trees outside the courtyard blocked some of it, so the exposure wasn’t as complete as in the yard.

Huo Jingyuan received his wife’s signal. He immediately threw off the blanket, stood up from the chair, and took her hand in his large one.

As they walked, Wen Ci said, "Did the doctor say when you need to get your wounds redressed?"

What she said to Su Guilan earlier was just an excuse.

But it also reminded her of Huo Jingyuan’s injuries.

"Tomorrow. I’ll go to the military hospital to get it changed."

"I’ll go with you, then."

Huo Jingyuan shook his head. "No need. You should focus on your business first."

"Is my business more important than you?"

At her words, Huo Jingyuan raised an eyebrow. "Wifey, you’re right. What business could be more important than me?" He paused, then continued, "But the military hospital is only a few hundred meters from here. There’s not much point in you coming along."

Wen Ci thought for a moment and said, "Then I’ll have Wen Yaozu go with you. He can take a look around the military base, too."

Besides, Wen Yaozu had been complaining about being stuck at home all the time.
