Chapter 159: Chapter 159: What Are You Father and Son Talking About?
Su Guilan sat on the sofa, completely baffled by her husband’s words. Having just rushed back from out of town, she asked with a confused look, "What are you two, father and son, talking about?"
Mr. Jiang suddenly snorted. "It’d be a good thing if your sister actually tattled. You argued with her right at the entrance to the family compound. Did you really think no one would start gossiping?"
Now, Su Guilan understood.
Her son had been bickering with Ah Ci at the entrance to the family compound.
"Ah Ci is your own sister. As her older brother, you need to learn to be more forgiving. No matter how you two bicker, you can’t do it at the main entrance of the family compound."
The Jiang Family used to protect their daughter, keeping her out of the public eye.
But now that she was in the spotlight, she was clashing with her brother, which was bound to stir up gossip—and the military family compound was a place full of women.
Gossip had a way of spreading, and eventually, it would reach the ears of their superiors.
Even though Mr. Jiang was a director, there were plenty of people with higher military ranks, some of whom were retired but still held real power. And now, his daughter was Old Commander Huo’s granddaughter-in-law.
Naturally, this put her under even more scrutiny.
"Mom, do you know she hauled a truckload of clothes from the Southern region to the military base to sell? She even negotiated a partnership with the Logistics Department."
"Ah Ci is running her own business?"
Su Guilan’s eyes widened, then a gratified smile spread across her face.
’Ah Ci is truly my daughter, after all.’
’Even though she grew up in the countryside, she inherited my knack for business. Still, starting with a whole truckload of clothes to sell... isn’t that a bit too ambitious?’
"How much is Ah Ci selling those clothes for per piece?"
Jiang Chen, still kneeling on the floor, tilted his head in confusion.
’Is this really the time to be worried about that?!’
’I’m still kneeling here, you know.’
"If I hear one more time that you’ve been fighting with your sister, you can pack your bags and get yourself sent to a remote military region. Out of sight, out of mind."
At these words, Jiang Chen’s eyes widened.
When he first enlisted, he hadn’t wanted to serve in the Beijing Military Region. He knew that no matter how well he performed, his achievements would always be attributed to his father’s position as a director.
It was his father who had a heart-to-heart talk with him, convincing him to serve in the Beijing Military Region where it was safe and he could still live at home.
But now, his father was saying such cruel things to him, all for a daughter he had never been close to.
A lump formed in Jiang Chen’s throat. He slowly rose from the floor, his posture as straight and unyielding as a pine tree. He said, enunciating every word, "There’s no need. I will submit the transfer request myself."
Seeing the situation getting tense, Su Guilan tugged on her husband’s sleeve, knowing a father and son shouldn’t hold such grudges. "You’ve said enough," she urged. "It’s just some bickering between siblings, which is perfectly normal."
"Hah."
With that, Jiang Chen stormed out, slamming the door behind him without looking back.
"Jiang, how could you be so harsh? Don’t you know Jiang Chen has always had this complex? Now that you’ve angered our son into leaving, I’d like to see how you plan to coax him back," Su Guilan complained.
"What do you know about it."
With that, Mr. Jiang, unwilling to explain further, left for the barracks.
Su Guilan sat on the sofa in the now-empty house, her mind already calculating how Ah Ci was running her business.
’As her mother, I should pass on some of my experience,’ she thought. With that, she left the house, intending to go to Mr. Huo Sr.’s residence.
「Elsewhere.」
Huo Jingyuan’s ears twitched as he heard light footsteps. He confirmed they were heading toward the house.
He immediately pulled a blanket over himself, making sure to completely hide the bite mark on his neck.
"Hm?"
Seeing him try to cover up, Wen Ci raised an eyebrow and teased, "Oh? Is Mr. Huo not allowing anyone to look now?"
