Chapter 143: Chapter 143: When Are You Coming to the Hospital
The words had barely left his mouth when Wen Ci dragged her exhausted body home. After forty-eight hours on a hard-seat train, her backside was killing her, and she had been forced to stay vigilant against a suspicious middle-aged woman, unable to relax for a moment.
She had remained tense the entire trip and hadn’t dared to sleep too soundly, even at night.
The moment she opened the door, Wen Ci saw Wen Yaozu on the landline. She frowned and asked, "Who are you chatting on the phone with?"
Hearing Wen Ci’s voice, Wen Yaozu beamed. "Brother-in-law, my sister’s back! You promised you’d put in a good word for me when you got home."
"Okay, put your sister on."
Wen Yaozu immediately stood up, took Wen Ci’s hand, and said in a coaxing tone, "Sis, you’re finally back! My brother-in-law has been calling every day to check on you."
Wen Ci’s frown gradually eased. She walked over to the sofa and sank into it. The soft cushions were a welcome relief, soothing her body and mind. Holding the receiver, she said calmly,
"Shouldn’t you be resting and recovering in the hospital instead of making calls all day?"
"Er..."
On the other end of the line, Huo Jingyuan froze. He had been about to bring up being discharged, but hearing her tone, he asked with concern instead, "How was your trip?"
"It was alright."
"So, when are you coming to the hospital?"
There was a hint of grievance in his voice as he spoke.
Wen Ci blinked, deliberately teasing him. "Why would I come to the hospital?"
"To pick me up and take me home. The higher-ups at the Northwest Military Region made it a requirement—I can’t be discharged without your approval."
"Tomorrow."
"Can’t it be today?"
Wen Ci raised a hand to rub her temples and said earnestly, "Huo Jingyuan, I just got back and I’m exhausted. I don’t want to go out again."
"That’s fine. As long as you agree, that’s all that matters."
’He didn’t really need Wen Ci to come pick him up. The hospital wasn’t far from the Beijing Military Region base—he could be home in just over ten minutes.’ He said cheerfully, "As long as you approve my discharge, I can be home later tonight."
Wen Ci hesitated.
’After all,’
’Huo Jingyuan was still a patient. Letting him leave the hospital by himself...’
’She didn’t feel right about it.’
"If it’s really a problem, I can just have Xue Li pick me up from the hospital."
Wen Ci let out an exasperated laugh. "You just have to be discharged today, don’t you?"
"Yes."
Ultimately, Wen Ci agreed to Huo Jingyuan’s request.
She first used the landline to call a superior at the Northwest Military Region and tentatively asked when Huo Jingyuan might be able to return to the Northwest.
The leader said that it was imperative for Huo Jingyuan to make a full recovery.
There was no rush for him to return to the Northwest Military Region.
After exchanging some pleasantries, Wen Ci brought up taking Huo Jingyuan home to continue his recovery.

By the time they finished all the discharge paperwork, the sky had begun to darken. Xue Li drove Huo Jingyuan and dropped him off outside their complex. "Brother Huo, I have to head back to the Northwest tomorrow."
Huo Jingyuan reached out and patted Xue Li’s shoulder. "Thanks."
Xue Li had been saving his vacation days for next year, but Huo Jingyuan’s situation had been sudden. Uncomfortable with his sister-in-law traveling back to Beijing alone, Xue Li had used his leave early.
Xue Li smiled. "We’re brothers. No need for that."
"Yeah. When I get back to the Northwest, drinks are on me."
Huo Jingyuan had no sooner stepped out of the car than Yu Qing came out carrying her luggage. Her expression was detached as she said, "Mr. Huo, I wanted to say goodbye to Ah Ci before I left, but she was exhausted and fell asleep not long after she got home."
Huo Jingyuan asked, "You’re heading back to the Northwest, too?"
Yu Qing nodded. "I’m on the last train tonight."
’She had already wasted a few days of her leave just traveling to Beijing, and the trip back would eat up more time. After her stay in Beijing, she didn’t have much vacation left.’
"When you get to the Northwest, call Wen Ci to let her know you arrived safely."
Yu Qing nodded seriously. "I will."
