Chapter 142: Chapter 142: Brother-in-law, My Sister Isn’t Back Yet

A subtle smile touched Wen Ci’s lips. ’Just as I expected,’ she thought. ’She’s in a hurry to get them off the train. Once they’re somewhere deserted, she’ll have them under her control.’

She then glanced at the railway police officer in the car and gave a subtle blink. As the nation’s Capital, Beijing had the highest level of security, and the train was even equipped with a landline that could connect to the station platform.

There were already several plainclothes officers hidden among the sea of people on the platform.

Ah Hua pouted. A major reason she wanted to come work in Beijing was to see its magnificent square. Frowning, she said, "Work can wait. I just want to go to the square."

A vicious glint flashed in the middle-aged woman’s eyes, but she couldn’t let it show. She coaxed, "Alright, alright. We’ll do as you say. I’ll take you to the square tonight."

"Yay!"

The train came to a steady halt and the doors slid open. Ah Hua, shouldering a large bundle of luggage, followed the middle-aged woman off the train. The station had only one exit.

Suddenly, the middle-aged woman seemed to sense something. She glanced around warily. People in her line of work were always risking their necks.

They ran at the first sign of trouble.

The middle-aged woman stopped in her tracks and turned to look back at Ah Hua and Wen Ci. The wrinkles on her face bunched together as her expression turned grim. "What are you two up to?!"

’There are definitely plainclothes cops in this crowd.’

Ah Hua asked, confused, "What do you mean, ’up to something’?"

The words had barely left Ah Hua’s mouth when the middle-aged woman’s gaze fixed on Wen Ci. "It was you!"

"What was me?" Wen Ci feigned ignorance.

’This kind of trafficking is definitely the work of a group,’ Wen Ci thought. She wanted to use this opportunity to catch the woman’s accomplices. ’These criminals are getting audacious, even daring to operate in the Capital.’

"Run!" the middle-aged woman suddenly screamed.

The sudden shout sent many passengers on the platform into a panic. The plainclothes officers could no longer maintain their cover and had to move in to restrain the middle-aged woman.

Wen Ci frowned slightly. ’She’s that alert?’

’She’d rather sacrifice herself than expose her accomplices.’

And so, the little incident on the train came to an end. Wen Ci handed Ah Hua over to the police, then turned her focus to the clothes she had hauled all the way back from the Southern region.

Xu Jinghe had been thorough, arranging for a car from Beijing to be waiting at the station entrance. He had also helped her rent a warehouse in the suburbs for storage.

Wen Ci asked about the cost of the warehouse.

She was told the warehouse cost five hundred yuan a month. The rent was charged monthly, so even if she used it for less than a month, it would still be the full price. Going over by even a single day meant she would have to pay another five hundred for the next month’s rent.

Wen Ci’s gaze fell.

’This shipment of clothes has to be sold within a month.’

’Otherwise, I’ll lose money.’

「Meanwhile.」

Huo Jingyuan paced back and forth in his hospital room. He’d been bored to death the past few days, and to make matters worse, his wife was on a train and couldn’t take his calls.

He figured Wen Ci should be arriving in Beijing today.

He glanced up at the clock on the wall, then walked straight out of the room. His deep, ink-black eyes found a doctor in the office. "Can I borrow the phone?" he asked calmly.

The doctors were used to Mr. Huo borrowing the phone to make calls.

Originally, Mr. Huo could have been discharged in a day or two if he hadn’t caused such a fuss.

But now, his superiors from the Northwest had issued a direct order: Mr. Huo could only be discharged with his wife’s consent. That was why he came to the office every day.

Huo Jingyuan dialed the number for his family’s residence.

Wen Yaozu, lounging on the sofa, answered nonchalantly, "Who is this?"

Huo Jingyuan said, "It’s me."

Wen Yaozu chuckled. "Brother-in-law, my sister isn’t back yet. The moment she gets here, I’ll be the first to call the hospital and have them tell you."

Although Wen Yaozu had never met his brother-in-law in person, they had already forged a remarkably friendly relationship over the past two days.
