Chapter 126: Chapter 126: This Is Your Boss?

Night fell.

The stars glittered brightly as Xu Jinghe’s airport shuttle arrived at the gate of the Beijing Military Region. He pulled a pass from his pocket and showed it to the soldier on duty.

At that moment, Jiang Ye was seeing Gu Che out.

Her gaze fell on a man standing not far away. He was tall, with fair skin, and his face looked somewhat familiar. He was holding an expensive brick phone.

Jiang Ye stopped in her tracks.

Gu Che asked, "What’s wrong?"

"Nothing." Jiang Ye shook her head, forcing a smile as she explained, "I thought I saw someone I knew, but I can’t remember who."

Gu Che didn’t press the matter.

Once they reached the military region gate, Jiang Ye waved to Gu Che with a beaming smile. "I’m busy tomorrow, so you can come tutor me the day after."

’God, what a day I’ve had.’

’Just looking at those books made my head spin, but in front of Gu Che, I had to act like I loved studying.’

"Okay," Gu Che nodded.

After seeing Gu Che off, Jiang Ye started walking toward the family courtyard. Suddenly, a name popped into her head—Xu Jinghe!

In her past life, Gu Che had become a rising star in the business world.

But the true magnate of the industry was Xu Jinghe. His empire spanned multiple sectors, from technology to agriculture, and he even had official government contacts. Xu Jinghe had cornered the market on everything.

Gu Che had always wanted to get in good with Xu Jinghe.

But he could never find a way in, so he grumbled about it constantly.

Jiang Ye’s eyes narrowed. ’Thinking about it,’ she mused, ’it makes sense that someone with connections to the government like Xu Jinghe would have a background in the Beijing Military Region.’

’I just don’t know if he has a family member in a high-ranking position...’

’...or if he got his connections through other channels.’

Following his childhood memories, Xu Jinghe arrived at Grandpa Huo’s house.

The Beijing family courtyard looked much the same as it always had, with no major changes. Only the trees lining the road had grown sturdier. He gazed at the light shining from within the house.

Standing outside the yard, Xu Jinghe knocked on the gate.

The first person he saw was a small, thin boy in slippers inside the house. The boy’s eyes shone like stars as he looked out and asked, "Are you my uncle?"

Looking at the face so much like his sister’s, Xu Jinghe felt a lump form in his throat. "You’re Xiao Chuan?"

"I’m Xiao Chuan. Are you my uncle?"

"Yes."

Xu Jinghe crouched down, reaching out to gently ruffle Xiao Chuan’s hair. He met the boy’s gaze. "Xiao Chuan, do you remember where your mom and dad’s grave is?"

Before coming to Beijing, his parents had instructed him to find out where his sister’s gravesite was. Even though they had cut ties with her, now that she was gone, they felt that as her parents, they should pay their respects.

Xiao Chuan nodded. "I remember."

"When we leave Beijing, Uncle will take you to see Grandma and Grandpa."

"Okay."

Just then, Wen Ci walked to the courtyard gate and opened it. Her eyes crinkled as she smiled and asked, "Are you Xu Jinghe?"

"Hello, Sister-in-law."

Wen Ci warmly invited Xu Jinghe into the house. Wen Yaozu was sprawled on the sofa and waved Xiao Chuan over. "See if there are any apples on the table. Bring me one."

Xiao Chuan glanced at Wen Yaozu, then at his uncle beside him. After a moment of hesitation, he said in a childish voice, "Uncle, I have to go get an apple for the Boss first. I’ll come sit with you in a minute."

Xu Jinghe was utterly baffled.

"He’s your ’Boss’?!"

"Mhm." As Xiao Chuan thought of how the Boss protected him, his eyes seemed to turn into stars. He looked at Wen Yaozu with pure admiration. "The Boss... he’s a really good person."

"Al... alright."

Xiao Chuan scampered over to the table, picked out the biggest, reddest apple, and walked over to Wen Yaozu. "Here, Boss. Here’s your apple."
