Chapter 127: Chapter 127: What is Marketing?
Wen Yaozu reached out for the apple, snapped it in half, leaned back on the sofa, and lowered his gaze. "On account of you getting me this apple, I’ll reward you with half."
The apples had been brought back by Yu Qing, who washed them and put them on the table.
As a guest, Xiao Chuan was too shy to take one. Wen Yaozu saw this; as far as he was concerned, his sister’s house was his house. If he wanted to eat something, he would, and there was nothing to be embarrassed about.
"Thanks, Boss!"
Xu Jinghe lowered his eyes. ’No need to get involved in children’s nicknames,’ he thought, then asked in a calm voice, "How did Jingyuan get injured?"
"On a mission."
"Is it serious?" Xu Jinghe pressed.
The Xu Family wasn’t what it used to be. After the older generation passed away, many of their connections in the military district had faded. Now a businessman, it was even harder for him to ask the higher-ups about a regimental-level officer.
"He’ll be out of the hospital in a few days."
At these words, Xu Jinghe breathed a sigh of relief.
Of his childhood friends who had joined the army, only Huo Jingyuan was still serving. The others had almost all transferred to civilian work after getting married or getting injured.
"How long will you two be recovering in Beijing?"
Wen Ci answered truthfully, "The doctor recommended six months."
"Come visit the South after he’s out of the hospital! The Southern region has been developing rapidly in recent years, and Hong Kong has produced a ton of A-list celebrities."
Wen Ci smiled, her eyes curving.
The eighties were the golden age of the Hong Kong entertainment industry.
While they were chatting, the brick phone in Xu Jinghe’s hand rang. Without the slightest hesitation, he hung up and said with a grin, "I’ll arrange everything when the time comes."
The words were barely out of his mouth when the brick phone rang again.
Wen Ci said quickly, "You should take that. It must be business."
At that, Xu Jinghe answered the call and put the brick phone to his ear. His relaxed brow gradually furrowed. "They’ve already hit the department stores? They’re not leaving us any room to breathe, are they? Hurry up and sell off the factory’s inventory. Don’t let too much pile up."
Hearing Xu Jinghe finish his business call, Wen Ci asked curiously, "Do you own a clothing factory in the South?"
Xu Jinghe nodded. "I’m involved in quite a few businesses in the South. Clothing is the hottest thing right now, but with the Hong Kong stars becoming so popular, everyone on the mainland is starting to copy and sell their styles."
"The clothes I produced before are just piling up. They’re hard to sell."
Wen Ci blinked.
The North was usually behind the South when it came to trends. Styles that were already outdated in the South were often the newest, most popular thing up North.
Though Xu Jinghe’s clothes were already considered outdated in the South...
...they would be easy to sell in the North.
Wen Ci spoke up. "Have you ever thought about selling the factory’s clothes up North? Just because a style is outdated in the South doesn’t mean it’s outdated in the North."
Hearing this, Xu Jinghe gave it some thought.
The idea wasn’t impossible, but he’d barely break even. The journey from the South to the North was long, and the shipping fees were astronomical.
It would solve his immediate problem, though.
Xu Jinghe answered honestly, "It’s feasible, but the styles popular in the North now are the ones that were popular in the South a long, long time ago."
"If I ship the clothes over, and people aren’t ready for them right away..."
The losses would be even greater, he left unsaid.
Wen Ci smiled serenely. "Marketing!"
’In the future, you couldn’t sell anything without marketing.’
’As long as the marketing is targeted correctly, who cares if people aren’t receptive at first? People have a herd mentality. All it would take is a few people wearing the clothes on the street.’
’Then you wouldn’t have to worry about sales. You could even turn a profit.’
"What’s ’marketing’?" Xu Jinghe asked, confused.
