Chapter 9: Cure of a curse

’It’s a curse.’

He could tell just from the way the bright red wound had emerged from the simple looking rusted dagger.

’This is bad!’

A curse was, in simpler words, a kind of organism that had a certain corrosive ability.

These creatures, either born in nature as a natural disaster or a specially cultivated entity, were powerful things that have been proven to be deadly throughout history.

These microorganisms with such specific characteristics weren’t like a fungus, bacteria, or virus. They were magical organisms that, in their truest sense, were a curse.

"Felix!"

The kitten understood her master’s intentions and put the mole under the effects of her skill as well.

Showing the creature extremely dreadful things and activating his immune system to combat the effects of the curse would only buy them some time, but that was the only thing that came to his mind at that moment.

"Skeeeeeee!"

The innocent earth mole screamed in agony as the red corruption spread further inside of his body.

The pain of the creature was understandable to the boy who had endured a shallow cut from the same blade in the past.

"We have to stop the curse from spreading. We have to reverse the curse and condense it back inside the blade!"

His mind started running countless simulations once again.

In the past, he did not know this was a curse since he had little knowledge about them in his younger days.

In his later life, however, he came across people that had dealt with curses that were far more powerful than this thing.

While the effects of the curse would leave irreparable damage, they had not crossed the golden timeframe just yet.

"Lexie, hold his limbs."

The first course of action was to stop the curse from spreading further inside the creature’s body.

"Kiren! Do you have the field emergency treatment kit?!"

The guide that had no idea about the whole ongoing conflict had been struck with countless questions.

He could tell that if all of this was happening inside the Cradle, then only the people from the Sungrade family would be involved in this.

As a simple employee of the family, he had no freedom to get in their business.

He knew he would get in trouble if he made a wrong move, and thus he had been blankly staring at the absurdity of the situation.

"Kiren!"

But the screams of a boy who only had the life of an innocent creature in his eyes met his heart.

"Yes... yes, here!"

He took out all the supplies that he carried as a guide in case of troublesome situations.

There were a few things for first aid, and a few potions that can heal wounds.

But these things weren’t nearly enough to save a creature that was in such a bad condition.

’What is he going to do with just that...?’

They needed a healer or a powerful recovery potion. The blade had penetrated the body of the creature directly, so they needed more than first aid.

Furthermore, from the short life he had lived, he could tell that the wound with that glowing red circuit wasn’t an ordinary one.

’Can we even save him?’

His head was heavy with questions, but the red eyes of the boy in the blue hood that had now fallen down revealed his true identity.

’The useless son...’

In the entire Sungrade family, there were only two people who had such distinct blue hair so the boy could only be the person everyone called the ’trash’ of Sungrade.

And that person was also the very person that had impressed him so much.

’What do I do...?’

He froze and just watched as the same useless boy that no one even acknowledged the existence of poured everything he had into saving the little creature.

"I want you to gather the energy here and make the environment cleaner. Can you all do that?"

As if he knew the little creatures with the little intelligence would certainly understand him, he asked them for help.

They may not understand the words of a human just yet, but they understand the eyes of someone who was trying to save one of their own.

"Keee!"

"Ktrrrrrrrrrr!"

The creatures responded to him just in time. They gathered around him and the fallen mole as they started gathering the natural energies in the Cradle.

The environment around the two became saturated with a denser energy, something that a young boy should not be able to endure for long.

"You. Come here."

It certainly was difficult for him to endure the dense environment, but he did not stop his work.

He looked beside him and asked the little white bird to come forward.

"Chirp. Chirp chirp!"

But the young bird seemed afraid of whatever was happening and stayed back, shaking his head to refuse his request.

"I need you! Please!"

He urged the bird for help...

"Chirp!"

But the creature did not step forward.

Instead, the little white bird ran away and climbed up a tree that was right above them.

"Tsk."

As the tamer, Prism thought about using force and the power of his connection with the creature, but he didn’t.

Right now wasn’t the time to exercise his powers as the tamer.

"Felix, please keep them busy. Those who aren’t helping can help Felix."

"Meow!"

{ "We don’t have much time, master! What do I do with them?" }

Under the urgency of the situation, the cat did not understand what to do with the humans either.

Killing them wasn’t a choice here. Her master did not want that.

So then, what was she supposed to do now?

"Just..."

Prism paused for a moment.

"Skeeeee..."

He looked at the suffering little mole.

"Young master..."

He looked at his maid friend and Felix who seemed worried as well.

"Chirp..."

He looked at the little white bird that genuinely didn’t know how to help him right now and the kitten that was doing what he was supposed to do.

"Ugh..."

And then he looked at Able, his damned brother and the group that came for them when he had done nothing to them until now.

"Show them hell, Felix."

This isn’t how he wanted to do this.

He had suffered and he wanted to pay him back for that. But, a life was more precious to him than a crazy brother.

"Show him hell."

He sighed, nodded at Lexie so that she could help Felix, and focused back on the curse.

Time was ticking.

He had stopped the curse from spreading further but he still needed to contain it and revert the damage done.

He knew he did not have much time. So, he grabbed the handle of the dagger that contained the curse, and closed his eyes.
