Chapter 8: {Mystique Skill}
When the young boy in the green hood appeared before the one in the blue hood, the two stared at each other for a few seconds.
The people who accompanied them, the guards of the green-hooded boy who had surrounded the group in blue with the creatures of the Cradle, put up their guard.
The confrontation was in no manner friendly.
From the looks of it, the guards that were supposed to be protecting this place, the people who should be guarding this area, were nowhere to be seen.
If the family had found out about this, their jobs and lives could have been at risk. However, they did not seem to be concerned about that.
"Able, you don’t have to do this."
The guards surrounding the boy in a blue hood vanished the moment those words came out of his mouth.
"I don’t care what you say, you trash."
At some distance behind the boy in the green hood, a certain creature resembling a snake was visible.
"Ktktktktkt..."
This creature, despite its snake-like body, possessed millipede-like claws all across its body.
It had dozens of eyes, and the hundreds of legs present around its body seemed to be releasing what seemed like particles of a drug.
"Haaa..."
Prism instantly identified the creature as <Gilinia Miltpod>, a creature that produces a unique hallucinogen that, when combined with a certain kind of toxin, erases the presence of the targeted individuals.
Used mostly in assassinations and espionage, the combination of these two unique toxins had taken countless lives until now.
However, a chemical that only interfered with senses wasn’t enough this time.
"Let’s give it a go, Felix."
"Meow~!"
{ "Yeiiiii~!" }
The individuals who had vanished were not visible to the senses, but they were still right there. The easiest way to deal with a Gilinia Miltpod’s toxin was to mark out the targets that were using the creature’s power.
-Swish... Swish. Swish.
Lexie, his personal maid as well as an individual with many cards up her sleeves, knew exactly how to mark these individuals, so she used her own method to conceal her presence first.
-Zuuuup!
Then, without hurting the smaller creatures that were present all around them, she created a dust storm that lifted all the fallen tree leaves around them.
-Bam!
As she targeted the individuals of a certain height, she shot the leaves all around them.
"Argh!"
Of the twelve people who had surrounded them alongside the other young master of the house, five of them fell to the first attack.
"SKAAAA...!"
"MIIIII!"
"Ku ku ku ku!"
At the same time, the creatures that were present around them... vanished.
They made some sounds, but for some reason, all the creatures present vanished in an instant.
"...?"
While the concealed attackers were watching, the target, who stood with a cat in his hands and a white bird on his head, also vanished from the spot.
"What the hell??"
Young master Able was stunned to see the smirk on the target’s face when he vanished.
He had a bad feeling about this, so he instantly raised his arms in front.
-Oooooooooooong!
Two distinct bond markings appeared on the back of his hands, and two essence cards quickly floated out.
"These dirty tricks won’t work, you trash!"
From the two bond marks that seemed pretty similar, two creatures dashed out with a roar of fire.
Covered in roaring flames, both of these creatures: a rat with angry obsidian eyes and a puppy with burning fur that seemed enraged, bore their teeth towards the empty place where the opponent was standing till just now.
They could not see where the enemy went, but they could feel a strange presence.
Their master, now with no need to hide his presence, appeared behind the Gilinia Miltpod. The hallucinating toxin of the creature did not affect him in the slightest.
’Where the fuck did he go...?’
The young master looked around himself, a strange chill running down his spine.
He knew something was wrong right now.
The maid who was with the ’useless trash’ was more difficult than he had expected.
At the same time, the trash was using some kind of sorcery to hide his presence.
’If it were something simple like the toxins or a skill, the guards would have figured it out already.’
The people that he brought in with him were elites that he had hired with all the money that he had with him.
They knew what they were doing, and they had many beasts that could be useful in the current situation.
Some of them were also (Level-2) Tamers, so against a nobody like that guy, these people should have been more than enough.
However, that did not seem to be the case right now.
"Damn it..."
He had vanished.
There was someone, or something, hitting his people and knocking them all down, but he could not see anything.
He could not see anyone, even though they were supposed to be right there.
The guards that could take down even a (Master) level monster with their teamwork were struggling against a bunch of babies and a bitch.
He could not hide his anger at their uselessness– he knew he had wasted his money on trash just like the trash they were hired to kill.
"Shrrrr..."
Alas, the prey that they were trying to hunt had just been reborn as a true predator of nature.
"How long do you think we can maintain the skill, Felix?"
{ "About three more minutes? Hehe, this is so fun~! I didn’t know I could do this~!" }
What the opponent had on their end was a toxin that made the senses unable to perceive the targeted people. On the other hand, the target they were trying to kill had a mystique with a skill that affected the very reality of their surroundings, indirectly overtaking the very minds of the beings under its influence.
{Mystique Skill: Fog Eyes}.
The eyes that peered into a fog, the eyes that oversaw the happenings at a great distance from the fog, the feline eyes that were present on not just the mystique, but also on her human friend, glowed with a mystical blue light.
In reality, the people who had come to kill the youngest of the Sungrade boys were still present exactly where they had been.
Their bodies were covered in strange red vines that grew from the ground, their eyes were blank as if they were trapped in a strange illusion, there was a certain gray fog covering the entire area of influence, and standing in the middle of this all was the boy who had glowing blue eyes resembling his feline partner.
"Young master, what exactly is happening with them?"
Lexie was not aware of how this ability worked, but she knew it wasn’t something as simple as what met the eye.
The opponents were definitely under the effects of some kind of spell, but she had never seen anything like this.
The person she served, the person who couldn’t even play with a creature until yesterday, had now become a completely different individual.
And the thing that was happening right now... only made her feelings more complicated.
"So, who wants to play with our new friends?"
Sam looked at the creatures that were not as restless as they had been some time ago with a smile on his face.
They still had some time on their hands right now.
With the help of so many of these innocent creatures here... there were many things that he could still test right now.
However, before he can do that, he will have to take care of a different problem.
"Arghhhhh! Arghhhhh...!"
"Skeeeeeee...!"
One of the assassins who was restricted by Miss Lexie’s ability managed to free his hand.
For some reason, he was so scared that he threw the dagger that must have cut through the vines to the front... which unfortunately hit the same <Aquatic Bhumi Mole> that had helped them clean up earlier.
"Skeeeee...!"
The creature was in pain...
"Oh no."
The same cursed dagger that had put a scar on his body that never healed had now inflicted a life-threatening wound on an innocent creature.
An innocent creature that should not have gotten hurt in the first place...
