Chapter 10: Fears of a Noble

He thought taking down someone who didn’t even have a single tamed beast would be easy.

He had prepared enough. He gathered the people, he had prepared a place, and he was ready to handle the consequences.

He knew his sister would support him even if things got worse and while some people cared about him, the trash was still just trash.

As someone who couldn’t ever tame a beast, his life was as good as a puppet.

Even if he stayed here and lived his life, all he would do was rot away in the same room he was confined to.

As a member of such a prestigious family, all he had to his name was the life he was still clinging to.

But then, what meaning was there to this life when he wasn’t going to live even as a ’human’?

What use was trash that only made Others look at him with pity?

If their sympathy was the only thing he could have, then he could just have it in the afterlife.

That way, he would at least be reborn as somewhat of a useful trash in his next life.

’What was so wrong with wanting to free him?!’

If he was going to be thrown out of this house and killed by some random people, it was better for him to die at the hands of a noble person like him, his brother.

He just wanted to free the useless trash from this cruel world...

’Then why?’

Right now, he was surrounded by horrendous creatures.

Creatures so ugly, strange, and terrifying that he could only tremble in their presence.

Some looked like demons, others looked like things that were written by the (old evil) to terrify the world.

He could not make head or toe of these creatures.

If one of them had an endless mouth with hundreds of thousands of teeth, the other one had hundreds of thousands of eyes that were dripping blood.

There was a disfigured humanoid being, a gingerbread with a deformed face, looking directly at him with a smile.

’Why...?’

There was a horse to his right that had six heads, a black horse whose entire body was made of bones, while the heads still seemed normal.

He could only say that they were normal because he could understand them as normal, but that was it.

Nothing around him was normal anymore.

The same cradle that he thought would be a better place to take the trash out turned out to be the worst place on earth.

He didn’t know how this happened or whether what he was seeing was real or not.

He wanted to question the very reality of his current state, but all his mind and body could react to was the primordial fear hidden deep within him...

"Why?!"

All his eyes could see right now were the sharp teeth that covered the entire sky, the countless eyes that had become the forest of the cradle, the ground that had turned into a mush of mud, sweet dough, and blood, and all the senses in his body were shivering with utter pain.

The creatures were there, but they did not touch him.

They were there, but they did not hurt him.

There were moments when they looked at him and smirked, licked their lips as if marinating a delicious prey, but they did not come closer to him.

"S-shhhhhh..."

"Miii... miiii..."

His fire covered mice and puppies had curled around him, feeling the same terror as their master.

They did not understand how these creatures may have appeared here, but he knew if things like these were here, then there was no way that trash and his maid had made it out of here.

’They must have been killed first...’

Perhaps these things had already devoured every creature here including the guards he brought and the people that accompanied him.

Perhaps, the only reason they were saving the strongest one of them... the only reason they were saving him for last was because of his worth.

’But why?!’

He was a good looking boy from a well off family, a noble with great potential that had already tamed three amazing beasts.

His father had not seen his skills yet so he had yet to be acknowledged by him, but his sister reassured him that he would receive their father’s approval soon.

It had not been long since he became an adult, so when the time to prove his skills arrived, he knew he would be praised by the elders and his father.

But that future seemed too far off now...

’No.’

He was just about to give up when he remembered his sister’s smile. She had encountered him on each step of his journey so he could not just fall apart in a moment of agony.

"NO!"

With his entire body still trying to resist the fear caused by these strange creatures, he clenched his fist and bit his lips until blood started coming from them.

"I’m a noble!"

He picked up his two partners and took a step backwards while glaring right into the countless hungry eyes glaring right at him.

"I’m not trash!"

He turned around, and bolted with all the strength left inside him.

"Go in!"

"Miiii!"

"Shaaaaa!"

"Go!"

He ordered his beasts to go back to their bond marks when they didn’t listen to his pleas.

He could not see his ’snake’ partner. He could not feel it either so he assumed the creatures got to him as well.

It was strange since he could still feel the connection they shared but that did not matter much.

He needed to run...

"ARGHHHHHHHHHH!!!"

Those things were chasing after him.

He needed to run.

He needed to run away from them and deal with them. If anything, he would be killed.

’I just have to get out of here!’

The entire cradle looked different from what he could remember. Everything seemed like a maze before his foggy eyes.

He knew his body would not last long... but he needed to run.

He needed to run, and save himself.

He wasn’t trash. His life was too precious.

Those things were underestimating him as well.

They thought he would just fall for the fear.

But he was a Sungrade.

He was a noble and he knew what he must do.

"Arghhhhhh!"

He needed to run away.

That was the only way to survive.

And just like how running was the only way for the noble boy to survive...

"I’m going to pull the blade out. Kiren, be ready."

"Yes!"

The only way for the little mole to survive was to trust the body that was bleeding from his eyes, nose, and ears... as well as the guide whose hands were still shaking.

"Here we... go, little... one. Ahem!"

He coughed up blood, but still smiled at the little creature.

"Endure it for... for just a little, o-ok?"

Blood pooled under him.

Every cell of Lexie’s body wanted to rush up to him and help him, but he had asked her not to disturb them until they were done.

’Young master...’

He only needed to pull the cursed blade out now. That was the last thing he needed to do.

And then, if things go well...

"You’ll be fine... little one. You’ll be... fine."

He smiled at the creature, his clothes soaked in blood.

She couldn’t understand why the life of that small creature mattered to that young boy so much.

She just couldn’t understand this absurd situation... but there was nothing she could do right now.

"Arghhhhhh!"

Just like how the noble young boy could only run in his illusion, how the feline could only do what her master wanted, and how the boy could only do his best to save the small creature... She could only do what she was asked.

This time at least, she must only do what she was asked.
