Chapter 60: 60-They Are My Men

Gigi:

After my brother had called me and we had a talk, I decided to finally speak with Jaguar.

From the way he had been blowing up my phone, I could already tell he was worried about me.

So, after waiting a little while and making him even more agitated, I finally answered his call.

"Are you okay?" he asked instantly.

"Yeah, I’m fine," I replied, trying to make my voice sound heavier and sniffing so he would get the idea that I had been secretly crying.

"Gee, are you really okay?" he questioned again.

Once again, I sniffled dramatically.

"Yeah, I’m fine. Why do you keep asking?" I uttered in the softest voice.

"No, it’s just—" He paused. "Anyway, I’m pretty sure all our assumptions are wrong. I’m pretty sure Theodore will come and apologize to you."

I rolled my eyes because I no longer wanted an apology. I wanted clear answers.

Also, I hadn’t forgotten what my friend had told me about Jaguar.

He had a lot of explaining to do himself.

So I was curious to see his reaction. Therefore, I cleared my throat deliberately.

"Trust me, I’m fine. It’s just the disappointment, and it’s going to go away as well," I said dramatically before moving on to the next point.

"Well, I was really expecting Theodore to at least let me know that he was busy with his girlfriend, but—" I trailed off because I knew he had something to say.

The way he grunted made it obvious.

"What girlfriend?" he asked, sounding as though he had no idea what I was talking about.

"Verity."

The moment I said her name, silence fell on the other end of the line.

I waited for some kind of reaction, but his silence said it all.

"Don’t tell me you didn’t recognize her. He was carrying her to the hospital. He stayed with her the whole night. Of course he dropped everything for her, even something as simple as sending me a text."

I used the saddest tone I could manage, but the truth was, I really was sad.

Theodore had disappointed me to the point of no return.

Seeing those pictures of him carrying Verity like that had already been heartbreaking. The sense of betrayal felt so real. The way he had kept her hidden from me.

And I could only think of one thing.

"But I know it must have been Verity who didn’t want him using his phone," I mumbled sweetly.

"She’s not his girlfriend. If she was, he would’ve told us," Jaguar almost hissed from the other side.

The fact that Jaguar kept insisting on that point told me everything I needed to know.

It only upset me because I never thought that the two people I liked most after Ragnar would betray me this way.

"Jaguar, you’re so innocent. They must be in a new relationship. And your brother is innocent too. Of course Verity told him not to tell anyone," I said, scoffing before rolling my eyes.

I knew he couldn’t see me, so I could roll my eyes, clench my fists, and still be safe.

"I don’t think so. Theodore isn’t Verity’s type."

Of course, that was another thing I noticed.

Instead of saying that Verity wasn’t his brother’s type, he said something that made Verity sound perfectly fine.

"Besides, if there was something between them, wouldn’t we have found out already?" he asked, making me roll my eyes and wonder if he was really that stupid.

I remained silent for a few seconds, though, planning my next move.

"Well, when two people click, what can we do? Jaguar, it’s just—I didn’t think your brother would be so easily distracted. But anyway, who am I to talk? It was stupid of me to plan anything for the family in the first place."

I sighed before deciding to make a dramatic exit.

"I’ll talk to you later."

I made sure there was a slight crack in my voice before ending the call.

Now that I had planted seeds of uncertainty in Jaguar’s mind, I was going to see how it all turned out.

Of course, sooner or later, I would get the answers, but I didn’t want it to take too long.

I began to wonder about Verity. Was it all a lie, the way she had come in acting so innocent? Had she come here planning to secure herself an Alpha King because she thought that if I could do it, she could too?

I grunted under my breath, upset at the turn of events.

How the heck had it taken me so long to even notice her in the office?

One month.

She had been working there for one month, and I had been completely clueless. It was kind of shameful, to be honest.

Nevertheless, here I was, finally making things right.

Almost immediately, Jaguar’s messages started blowing up my phone.

My Man 2: Gigi, please don’t think too much about it. I’ll take care of everything.

Then another message appeared.

My Man 2: If he is actually in a relationship with Verity, you have my word, I’ll break them apart.

My eyebrow rose.

I wondered whether he was interested in Verity himself and that’s why he was so angry, or if he genuinely didn’t think she was a good fit for Theodore.

Then another thought crossed my mind.

What if he had said her name because he already suspected she was trying to trap Theodore? What if that was why he had accidentally called Rochelle "Verity"?

It could be anything.

Another message from Jaguar appeared.

My Man 2: No one, not even Theodore, has the right to upset you. And if Verity really told him to skip your dinner, she’ll answer to me. You have my word.

Finally, I put my phone down and stretched happily. freewёbn૦νeɭ.com

The storm was coming sooner than expected, and it would hit everyone.

In the end, there would be only four people left standing.

Me and the three Alpha King brothers.

Verity didn’t stand a chance.

Not in a million years.
