Chapter 64: Move out
After he got my phone, I texted the brothers. I tagged my message as urgent so they would know how important it was. They canceled all of their appointments and arrived at Parker’s office within twenty minutes.
"Can you ask Parker to come in? He can stop hiding now; I have something to say."
"Sure," Cooper said, then left and returned with Parker.
"Tell them what this is," I said, settling my gaze on Parker. But Parker stayed quiet.
"I saw Doc Eric leaving when I came in. Did she fall sick? She doesn’t look okay," Gavin observed, sitting directly opposite me.
"Parker, can you tell us what this is about? We don’t have the whole day. How did she get to your office?" Bryce asked from behind Parker’s desk.
Cooper and Parker stood closer to the door.
Parker hesitated for a minute, then cleared his throat. "Yes, she had a seizure a while ago; this is the second time it’s happened," he revealed.
"What? What caused it?" Cooper asked, looking surprised. The others also appeared shocked by the information.
"Emotional distress. Overwhelming emotions led her brain cells to misfire, causing the seizures," Parker answered.
"How come we’ve never heard of this before?" Gavin asked, turning his attention to Parker. "Were you hiding this from us?"
"Wait, when exactly did this start?" Cooper asked.
"It happened months ago, after she left the house and we brought her home."
"Were you hiding this from us? Why? I don’t see a reason why you should hide it," Gavin said, sounding annoyed.
"Because it happened because of me. I just couldn’t bring myself to tell you the truth." frёewebnoѵēl.com
Gavin exhaled, disappointed.
"So why did it happen this time? What caused it?" Bryce asked.
"Eric suspects the same cause," Parker replied.
"Oh shit," Cooper groaned.
"Wait, what exactly did you do that got her to that condition? You must have really angered her," Gavin said again, exhaling as he spoke.
"I have something to say." I cleared my throat and spoke up again. "And I must say it."
"Speak, you’re free to talk."
"Parker hid it the first time it happened; he asked me not to say anything to you guys, and I easily agreed because I was equally confused. It had never happened to me before. That was my first time, so I didn’t know how to feel about it. And to be honest, I was quite embarrassed and ashamed. I couldn’t even tell Ruby about it. My parents also don’t know that something like that happened to me."
"But I couldn’t hide it this time; I couldn’t bring myself to do that." I shifted my attention to Parker again.
"You know what you said to me the first time it happened. You told me you’d make sure it never happened again. You promised me a lot of things, but you forgot those promises and also forgot that you made them."
"I’m risking my health by staying with you guys; that’s the truth." I paused to look at Parker and noticed him staring at his feet. I shifted my gaze to the others and saw that they were paying attention to me.
"I can’t continue like this. I think it’s best I move out of the house, OR you all move out. All four of you. I don’t want to stay in the same space as you again, at least until my exams end. I just want to have peace in the meantime; I know I’m not asking for too much. I don’t want to go through this again. Please. I know you don’t listen to a word I say, but can you listen to me this once?"
"Don’t text me. Don’t call. Don’t even check up on me. I want you all to keep your distance. Can you do that? I’m afraid something worse will happen if I don’t take precautions."
"And Parker," I turned to him again, "I don’t think... I should... I don’t think we should keep our matebond. I wish to break it."
"What?!" Parker snapped his attention to me; his eyes went wide, and his face turned white from shock.
I bit my bottom lip hard as I tried to control my emotions, then repeated, "I believe we should end it." freeweɓnovel.cøm
"What?" Cooper also gasped.
"No, you can’t do that," Gavin whispered, shaking his head.
"Why can’t I do it?" I snapped at Gavin.
"Because you’ll be the one affected. You might... You might go into shock if that happens."
"I don’t care," I said, exhaling.
Gavin moved closer to me and took my right hand, but I pulled it away. He took my hand again. He opened his mouth to speak, but Bryce spoke first.
"Let’s do it," Bryce said. "We’ll move out of the house just like she wants, and we’ll give her all the time and space she needs," he agreed.
No one objected; they fell silent again.
He turned to Parker. "Meet me outside; we need to talk." He stood up and left the office. Parker hesitated for a minute, then followed him.
Cooper also left, leaving just Gavin and me.
Gavin didn’t let go of my hand; he kept holding it. "My brothers and I can be difficult," he murmured. "We were wrong, and you are right. We’ll give you the time and space you need, and hopefully, we’ll reunite as better versions of ourselves. I’m sorry this happened to you. I’m terribly sorry, Amera," he apologized, but I didn’t say anything and kept my gaze down.
"Let me drive you home." He stood up and helped me to my feet. "Don’t worry, you won’t see us starting tomorrow."
Gavin drove me home and helped me to my room.
"Did something happen? Is she okay?" Nanny Samantha asked him.
"No, Doc Eric will come in to check up on her regularly. Take care of her."
"Are you going somewhere, sir?"
"We’ll be around, but we won’t come to the house. Make sure to look after her."
"Yes, Alpha."
Gavin left, and Samantha came to me. "Are you okay, my dear?" she asked, and I shook my head.
"Ruby... Is she here?"
"No, she left a while ago."
"Can you get me water, please? I’m thirsty."
"Yes, give me a minute."
She walked to the jug on the table, grabbed a cup, filled it with water, and offered it to me. I accepted and drank.
"Did something happen with the brothers? Why do you look so down?"
"I was a little too angry earlier; I’m a bit calmer now. As for the brothers, you won’t see them again. That is, at least for the time being. Hopefully," I told her.
