Chapter 63: Snapping

I stormed into the company, took the elevator to the top floor, and exited at Parker’s floor. I found the secretary arranging some documents.

Once she noticed me heading to Parker’s office, she dropped the documents and quickly rushed to me.

"Hello, Ms." She tried to block my path, but I pushed her out of the way.

"Where is Parker?" I demanded, opening the office door.

"He is not here; he is in the conference room. He is about to hold a meeting with some of the board members," she explained.

"What floor is it?" I faced her and questioned her.

"I... Ms..."

"What floor is it?" I half-yelled, impatiently.

"The 13th floor." After her response, I turned and rushed into the elevator; she grabbed the documents and followed me. She got into the elevator and stood beside me.

"Ms., are you okay? You don’t look okay; I’d suggest you calm down. You don’t look good at all; your skin is red, and it seems your breathing is uneven," she said, looking at me.

"Whatever it is you have with the CEO can wait; you need to regain yourself first," she continued, but I stayed silent, ignoring her.

"You won’t be able to speak to the CEO anyway; you’ll have to wait until the end of the meeting. Let’s go to the kitchen; I’ll make you coffee. I’ll brew it for you and make it to your liking," she offered, but I remained silent.

We reached the 13th floor, and the door opened. I didn’t hesitate and quickly stormed out. The secretary came after me.

"Ms., you need to reconsider this. You need to prioritize your health first. It seems like you’ll pass out from anger. My father owns a clinic downtown, and I’ve seen people with different health conditions. Your health is at risk here. Please prioritize yourself first." She didn’t stop speaking, but I continued ignoring her and searched for the conference room.

While searching, my eyes settled on two security men standing before a door.

Oh, that’s the conference room. I didn’t hesitate and immediately moved toward the door, but the security men stopped me before I could get close.

"What are you doing? Let me go! Don’t you know who I am?" I yelled in anger at the security personnel while they dragged me away.

"I believe you should let her go," the secretary said from behind.

"Only authorized personnel are allowed here. Do you know who she is?" they asked her.

"I believe she’s Ms. Amera; I’ve seen her once before. I believe she’s the one," the secretary responded.

"Is she?" one of the security guards exclaimed.

"Who is she?" the other asked, seeming clueless.

"Leave her alone; we might get in trouble if we don’t," the first security guard said. After they freed me, I didn’t hesitate to go to the meeting room. I pushed the double doors, and they instantly opened, revealing many heads. The heads turned toward me at once.

"Amera?" Parker called, rising to his feet; he was sitting at the far end of the room.

"What are you doing here?" he asked, looking shocked and confused at the same time.

"Send them away; I need to speak to you," I demanded.

"What?" He huffed, appearing shocked by my demands.

"Or do you prefer I say it in front of everyone?" I covered half of the room and abruptly stopped walking.

Parker nodded in agreement. "You may leave; this meeting is adjourned until further notice," Parker announced. After his announcement, the audience began to leave one after the other. He came to me after they were all gone.

"You don’t look good; are you okay?" He tried to touch my forehead, but I slapped his hand away; my actions added to his shock.

"Why...?" I started. "Why are you so mean? Why are you so heartless?" I asked, breathing very hard.

"Jack, the driver, why did you make such a difficult demand of him? You know he can’t afford the money, but you insisted that he pay it. He has a family to feed. He is about to get evicted from his house for being unable to pay rent, so why... Why are you being so mean to him?"

Parker sighed. "Is this what it’s about? I thought it was something bigger. How did you learn about this? Did Jack come to you?"

"You thought it was something bigger? What could possibly be greater than this? A family is about to be sent to the street, for the moon goddess’s sake! His little children are at home because he was unable to pay their fees. What could be greater than this?"

"200k?" I scoffed. "You don’t even need the money; it’s an insignificant amount to you, but to Jack that money is his whole life. Why do you behave so wickedly?"

"Amera, look, I didn’t—"

"Call Jack right now and tell him that his debts have been cancelled," I cut him off and demanded.

"What?" He scoffed.

"Tell him that he doesn’t need to pay again. Tell him that he’s free; do not ever speak to him again."

"Amera, you need to calm down for a second. Calm down and hear me out. You’re running out of breath."

"I don’t care! I just want you to call him. I want you to do it in front of me. Call him, Parker. I’m serious, I won’t leave unless... unless... unless you call... call..." I felt my breath hitch, and it became extremely difficult to speak. My body stiffened and my muscles tensed up as I kept struggling to finish my sentence.

"Amera!" Parker called, drawing closer to me.

"Amera, are you okay?" He tried to touch me, but I felt myself losing consciousness.

"Oh shit," he groaned.

I closed my eyes for a second, and when I reopened them, I was on the floor. I saw Parker take off his jacket and cushion my head. I closed my eyes again, and when I reopened them, I saw him turning me onto my side. I closed my eyes, and when I reopened them for the third time, I was lying on the sofa, and Parker was on a call.

"Get here within ten minutes, she had another seizure," he said into the phone.

"It lasted longer this time, two and a half minutes. I don’t know; don’t ask me. Just get here."

"Yeah, she’s calmer now. Don’t ask questions over the phone."

I closed my eyes again, and when I reopened them, I saw the doctor. fгeewёbnoѵel.cσm

Doctor Eric. He was holding my wrist, trying to read my pulse, but I immediately snatched my hand from him and sat up.

"Are you awake now? How do you feel?" he looked at me.

"I... I don’t need this." I moved away from him.

"Ms., you need medical attention."

"I don’t."

"You had a seizure. This is the second time it’s happening. I need to take you to the hospital and run a few tests."

"No, it’s useless. The only thing I need right now is freedom."

I stood on my feet, but I staggered a little.

"Hey, it’s okay," he caught me. Then he shook his head. "I also suspect that this happened due to emotional stress; it affected your brain’s electrical activity, leading to seizures. But I won’t be sure unless I take you to the hospital and run some tests."

"I don’t need the test, doctor. Where is Parker? I want to see him," I asked.

"Uh... Parker is..."

"He is what?"

"He is scared to meet you. He went outside when he saw you regaining consciousness."

"He knows what he did, that bastard." I tried to walk away, but Eric held me back. "You need to calm down; we can’t allow this to repeat itself." He led me to the sofa and helped me sit.

"Doctor," I looked up at him.

"What? Do you need something?" he looked at me.

"I’m sure Parker didn’t tell his brothers about this; he’ll probably hide it like he did the last time. I need my phone. Can you get me my phone?"
