Chapter 503: Chapter 503: Mika Summers VS Tristan Grayson (3)
"Everyone is already searching. Besides, Tristan is a great swimmer. He’ll definitely be okay." Ian Shaw’s words seemed meant to convince himself as much as her.
Perhaps even he didn’t believe it, yet he used those words to comfort Mika Summers...
"What will I do if something happens to Tristan...?"
As she spoke, Mika Summers watched the search party below. No one had found anything. A sharp pain lanced through her heart. ’We just made up... Why did something like this have to happen?’
She raised a hand to roughly wipe away her tears, pushed Ian Shaw aside, and stood up, ready to jump in.
With lightning-fast reflexes, Ian Shaw grabbed her tightly and yelled, "What do you think you’re doing?!"
"I’m going to find Tristan!"
Ian Shaw pushed her far away from the bank, his tone icy. "You’ll only get in the way! Just stay put right here."
Yelled at like that by Ian Shaw, Mika Summers crumpled to the ground in anguish and broke down crying.
’Am I just getting in the way? But if something happens to Tristan, how could I possibly go on living...?’
Watching the woman cry her heart out, Silas Kent sighed softly, then turned and retrieved a life jacket from a police car.
When Ian Shaw saw Silas Kent approaching with a life jacket, he snatched it from his hands. "I’ll go!" he declared, already strapping it on.
Silas Kent’s expression darkened. "You can’t snatch the glory every single time!" he said coldly. "I’m going this time!"
"Tristan Grayson is my brother. It makes no sense for his rival to go!" After saying his piece, Ian Shaw turned and jumped into the river.
Seeing Ian Shaw jump in, Silas Kent became even more furious. He strode back, grabbed another life jacket, put it on, and followed him into the water.
Watching more and more people go down to search, Mika Summers no longer had the heart to stay behind and grieve.
She ran back to the car to find a life jacket. Everyone else was helping with the rescue; she had to go down there, too.
But there were no life jackets to be found...
So she crouched by the bank, waiting in a state of terrified anxiety...
Just when she was on the verge of collapsing from the stress, a sudden shout came from the river. It was Ian Shaw. "I’ve got them! Hurry, we need help!"
She looked over in horror, only to see Ian Shaw and Silas Kent each pulling a person through the water...
Aria Joyce was sputtering, coughing up river water, while Tristan Grayson was deathly pale, slumped against Ian Shaw...
The moment she saw Tristan, she covered her mouth and burst into tears. "Tristan..."
A few moments later, they reached the bank. The others worked together to haul Tristan Grayson and Aria Joyce onto dry land.
Once they were ashore, Mika Summers rose and started toward Tristan Grayson. Before she could reach him, however, an ambulance arrived. She could only watch as the others helped Tristan and Aria Joyce into the vehicle before it sped away.
Mika Summers froze, her steps faltering. As she watched the ambulance drive away, her gaze became distant and unfocused...
Silas Kent came to her side. "Don’t worry," he said softly. "He’ll be okay."
"Mmm..."
"Let me take you to the hospital."
"No, it’s fine. I’ll go myself," Mika Summers said, shaking her head in refusal.
Silas Kent was about to speak again, but Ian Shaw cut him off. "Silas Kent, thanks for your help this time. But I’ll be the one taking Mika Summers to the hospital. My brother wouldn’t be able to rest easy knowing his rival was driving his wife."
’Without Silas Kent, he knew he never would have been able to round up so many helicopters on such short notice, nor could they have arrived in time for the rescue.’
’Still, gratitude was one thing. He was keenly aware that Silas Kent was his brother’s number-one love rival.’
