Chapter 43: First Target Of My Boredom
In the end, since Cillian was dangerously running out of funds to use, he ultimately came to a decision to accept Dennis’ commission.
As for the rewards he’ll receive, it’s going to be a huge sum of ten merits and two points for a poor guy like him.
Just for the information of the Bearer of the classes he asked, Dennis was willing to hand over that much amount of money.
In rewards he received throughout the time, excluding the low-tier spell he received from Iska-wise, this is a huge gain.
He already has five merits as an advance payment.
This leads to him taking action early on.
’Our class fight ended two days ago. We will receive a few days’ break because of it. In the meantime, I should wrap this commission immediately and finish his job. Well, what’s there to plan when I’m not intending to do anything at the upcoming fight anyway? Hehe, with how broken the matches are, it’s going to be a battle royale.’ frёeweɓηovel.coɱ
Cillian felt elated when he thought about how he would mess everyone up in the upcoming matches.
That was what he was planning to do.
It made him do a silent chuckle before stopping himself from walking when he spotted something weird.
At the corner of a corridor, Cillian observed a group of people circling as if doing some sort of secret meeting.
Coincidentally, the lead he got from Dennis is that one of his class enemy’s leaders is meeting in the same area.
Hence, Cillian was bound to see Dennis’s enemies sooner rather than later anyway.
Still, the spot they chose to do this secret meeting isn’t a hiding spot where careful individuals talk and spill secrets.
’At least hide yourself for goodness’ sake. You all act suspiciously already. Of course, someone’s going to eventually see you. And that’s me.’
Cillian carefully observed each individual before shifting his gaze to one particular person amongst the bunch.
’You’re here?’
This particular person was so familiar with that pesky demeanor and the tattoo attached to his neck with a symbol of a snake-coiling-skull.
The leader of Class 1-C, Jack Trade.
"Hey, you shit. Are you working well?"
Jack yawned in boredom before slapping a person’s face, a presumed leader of a class.
"Anyways, what have you got from me?"
Chatter—!
These leaders of their own class showed their flags, which Cillian confirmed was one of the two classes Dennis was looking out for.
Then, a relay of information happened, which Cillian listened to carefully.
It seemed that Jack was controlling these individuals to do his bidding, and pieces of news were informed directly to him.
Two of the people Ethan invited to the club were also there, which made Cillian realize that Jack got the academy tournament through them.
After a while, the bullying Jack stopped as he seemed to be finished.
"All right, you can leave now. And oh, payment’s due in two days, right? If you have an upcoming fight, pay now. You know what happens when you’re overdue, right?"
The poor individuals who were paying stayed behind and paid before running away. Whereas, the other people who were forced to do his bidding scampered away early on, acting like beaten children.
They couldn’t argue or even gang him up as if the very existence of Jack made them all afraid.
Cillian, who thought that the job was already done, was ready to use those people.
He wanted to follow them and confirm some of the leaders of these classes, and used it to bargain with some people when he had to stop.
’He’s not leaving yet?’
Jack Trade remained standing in his place while strangely looking at the paths from left and right that his lackeys used to run before finally sitting down.
This made Cillian stop for the meantime and tried getting closer without being noticed.
A few minutes of being motionless, Jack glanced around before grabbing an Artifact from his pocket and holding it right in his hand.
Jack moved the artifact near his mouth and talked to it.
"I’m here to report. No signs of the notorious criminal have been spotted. Next report. It was confirmed that Aster Densworth, the person of interest, held the Five Swords of Chaos. Investigations show that he used one of his swords, the Sword of Wrath, to defeat the son of King Viola, Fergus. He seemed to have advanced the ritual requirement for it."
Cillian’s face turned into a frown as his system popped up right in front of him.
[White Flag] -> [Red Flag]
’What?’
Jack paused to gather his breath before adding.
"Lastly, I’ve taken over most of the prominent gangs in this academy. It will be only a matter of time before I’ve snatched up the position of Fergus."
The rectangle Artifact in his hands, which almost functions like a walkie-talkie, produces a static sound before a voice answers him.
"Good work. Shipments coming right up in the same location, Jack. The smuggled pieces inside the Runic Gate, Elsewhere In Time, will be almost done being transacted. Keep a close eye on it. At the same time, we will begin our movement that has been halted."
[Red Flag] -> [Black Flag]
"Really?"
Jack seemed pretty overjoyed upon hearing that news.
The voice from the Artifact paused.
"That’s right. We’ll begin our movement on hunting and extracting the Sword of Chaos from Aster Densworth in three days. Prepare."
[Black Flag] -> [Death Flag]
"Again, good work. All your contributions will help us in the upcoming Cataclysm."
Jack let out a dashing smile before answering.
"My pleasure~"
Cillian’s eyes wavered as the flag above his head changed drastically from white to death flag.
[A scent of Death is within you.]
’What in the fucking world?’
Dennis merely ordered him to give him the names of the Bearers of his incoming class matches, and was given a clue that one leader is having a meeting in some obscured corridor.
And what are the chances that this leader would be meeting with Jack Trade, who is holding a bunch of leaders in his grasp?
[A scent of Death is within you.]
And yet again, for some reason, Jack decided to call some dude on a walkie-talkie, and they spilled everything that seemed to be important to discuss in an open space!
[A scent of Death is within you.]
Cillian couldn’t help but gulp.
Cillian silently left the area as Jack seemed to be done with whomever he was calling at the end of that artifact.
[Death Flag]
Even after he was far away from Jack, the flag wasn’t changing even a slight bit.
Cillian felt his heart pound.
"Am I nervous?"
Cillian knew that he was getting nervous after today’s event and how this situation led because, for some reason, he knew it had something to do with the scent of Death inside him.
[A scent of Death is within you.]
"All right, shut up now."
That screen kept appearing on his front when his flag became a Death Flag.
Cillian felt his hands shaking.
"Ah right... Yes, I’m nervous."
There’s no denying that Cillian is nervous, but.
"But I’m also..."
Excited.
The thrill.
A future worth looking forward to.
Cillian felt that this was what he’d been waiting for.
Of course, make no mistake that he encountered a rocky road when Aiden came to his club and almost lost his life in the process.
However, there’s a difference this time.
He was totally aware of what kind of Death Flag was raised in this situation.
[A scent of Death is within you.]
"This Death within me... Are you the one leading me to these situations?"
If he thought about it, then this scent might also be the reason he met Aiden at the right place and at the right time.
"Hah! Fucking ridiculous."
Cillian never felt that excitement and nervousness could come in emotion that he didn’t know how to react.
There’s one thing Cillian sure is about, though.
Whoever is targeting Aster will be a very fun thing to destroy. Jack is also someone worth trying to destroy, adding the fact that he had a beef with him.
’Jack, in the end, all things lead to me. Okay, you and the stupid sponsor backing you will be my first target.’
Cillian couldn’t hide his excitement.
Just like what he did on Earth as a professional hater, he’ll also have to stomp people he had seen as a target.
The difference now is that there’s going to be a lot of them.
...
"Your efficiency is absolutely scary that I almost couldn’t believe it. I commissioned you for this job yesterday, and you’re already done with it a day later."
Dennis couldn’t help but commend Cillian, who singlehandedly finished the job without any hiccups.
In his hand was a sealed document regarding the information of the Bearers he’ll have to face in the upcoming matches.
After all, finishing the battle early on had its own perks. It was still an unwritten rule, but it would be applied once the second matches wrapped up on its own and became an added rule.
That’s why Dennis was working.
’He’s good.’
And Cillian proved to be very efficient, as the rumors say about him.
[Faceless is unable to be used]
[Cooldown: 14:45:46]
"Thank you."
Cillian commented while watching the time limit of his Faceless since he had used three face changes to get the information regarding the other Bearer.
Dennis handed over the remaining merits and points to seal the contract between them before saying.
"You know, you are nothing like the time you’ve stuck with Fergus. Wanna work with me?"
Cillian smiled and respectfully declined while receiving the payment.
"I’m still part of the Brotherhood."
"What a bummer."
Dennis chuckled before opening the document as he stood up from his seat.
"Anyways, I don’t want to waste my time as well as I had to think up strategies too."
Cillian watched Dennis finish his coffee before saying in an even tone.
"May I ask something, Dennis?"
Dennis gazed at his watch for a brief moment before retorting calmly.
"That’s surprising. You never initiate conversation unless it’s club activities or important matters. Well, I actually still have an available time. What do you want to talk about?"
Cillian pondered for a moment as he contemplated his words, since Dennis might just answer this question only.
Then, he calmly told him.
"What do you know about Jack Trade, the leader of Class 1-C?"
