Chapter 429: Power Graveyard
Boss Beasts were very rare and sought after by those in the sect.
Upon death, they would not only hold special monster cores but also valuable materials.
All of this came with a large amount of fame and prestige, of course.
Those chasing after Garmr had already called in help from the Red Petal Sect.
Before Lyrian knew it, those who were called for backup were already stationed in front of him and Garmr.
There was a total of 20 disciples, all around the OP of 15 standing head in a blockade.
"Stop moving, beast!"
Those running behind Garmr were still trying to catch up, "We got it!"
However, Garmr didn’t stop moving. Even faster casting bright magical spells toward the beast, the disciples in front were concerned to realize that this beast was still moving forward!
Before they knew it, the wolf had pummeled through him, treading atop thier bodies as if they were the grass on the floor.
Garmr blitzed along, disappearing from sight, as the other disciples caught up to their decimated friends.
They were shocked as they stopped to help those who were injured.
"It’s too powerful! We might need to call the Black Petal Sect for real backup!"
An hour passed as Garmr continued running through the forest at above 200 miles per hour.
Garmr jumped up above the trees every once in a while, allowing Lyrian to get a slightly aerial view of the place.
Using this ability, he was able to pinpoint a place that looked like the description of the Power Graveyard and moved toward it.
Right now, he was merely a mile away.
The trees around Sol began to turn more and more dark, dead, and also scarce.
Reddish stones began appearing more and more, boulders that covered the ground.
Finally, Garmr broke through the main treeline and landed on a stone floor.
Everything around them was dyed in a slightly red, dark tone.
And everything around them was stone. There were a few dead trees here and there, but only stone, dust, and more stone stretched on for as far as the eye could see.
There were valleys and ridges, hills, mountains, and ravines all made from the same type of stone here.
Garmr stopped on Lyrian’s command at first. He wanted to scan how the place looked so he could think of what to do next.
"Hmm... water might be a concern here. I wonder how the ecosystem works." He mused out loud for a moment.
He turned his head to look behind, "They most likely won’t chase us in here, since it’s forbidden after all."
He wasn’t sure, but with that, they continued racing into the land.
Jumping over fast ravines and valleys, dodging around boulders and hills, Garmr eventually made it to what looked like a nest in the middle of nowhere.
With a slightly confused expression, Lyrian made Garmr stop, and he quickly hopped off the back and approached the nest.
Inside, there was a single glowing egg. It was green in color, contrasting the land around it.
As Lyrian continued to look at it, he felt chills run down his back.
He could tell something was stalking him, so he slowly turned around.
Behind him, he saw a giant, fat lizard slowly creep up the side of the hill he was on.
This creature had a thick helm made of keratin on its head, and this bulbous, thick outline carried its way across the middle of its back.
it was light brown in color, with the exception of some green interworkings here and there.
Its limbs were short but meaty, with sharp claws that looked lethal.
Its eyes were placed on either side of its head, but it was still clearly staring the boy down with malicious intent.
After a few seconds of silence, the lizard lunged forward, running toward Lyrian at full speed.
’OP of 17.’ Sol mused momentarily, ’Quite weak.’
He turned, jumping toward the beast. Clenching his fist, he slammed his hand down on top of the shielded skull of the beast.
As though crushing an egg, the shell of the lizard’s head cracked into several pieces.
Lyrian’s fist continued to dig down, until finally thrusting the beastt into the ground--jaw first.
At once its brainmatter oozed out of its ears, nose, and eyes as it lay dead on the ground.
Lyrian breathed out through his nose, ’Those eyes are still looking at me.’ He mused.
The eyes that made him get chills clearly weren’t those of that weak lizard.
No... it looked to come from a more fearsome adversary.
Ignoring this, he grabbed the egg of the lizard and continued on the back of Garmr, dashing through the various hills.
In vast valleys, he noticed powerful beasts going at it, even using large magical attacks to aid them in battle.
However, Lyrian ignored all of this and only headed where he felt a greater influx of mana.
’That must be where the Heartstone is...’ He mused, continuing.
Hours passed as Sol traveled on Garmr’s back.
They had torn through dozens of powerful beasts by now, while still leaving fairly unscathed.
Finally, Sol arrived at what looked like a mountain in the center of this Power Graveyard.
It was ginormous... most likely even larger than the one that the sects were built upon.
As he neared its bottom, he noticed a giant entryway that gleamed in a thick purple light--as if there was something inside casting this luminescence.
Finally, he jumped down from a ledge to the entrance with Garmr.
At that moment, Lyrian mused, ’That presence!’ As Garmr halted, quickly turned around.
’It’s finally here.’ Lyrian mused, as he and Garmr both faced a single creature standing atop the ledge they had just jumped down from.
"Hey... I thought you two were going here, but I wasn’t sure until now."
It was a half man, half snake. A long tail extended from its back, and its face was that of a reptilians.
Jumping down, the man faced Lyrian and Garmr.
"Who are you?" Lyrian questioned, slightly wary.
"I am the alloted protector of the great Grand Elder of the Black Petal Sect. But for you, I am death."
At that moment, Lyrian couldn’t help but smirk.
