Chapter 425: Leaps And Bounds
(AUTHOR NOTE: Previously, after the Genesis foundation Rank, which categorized its power stages as ’Layer’, the following Ranks such as Ascension would be categorized as Lower, Central, and Upper. Now, however, these have been changed to 1-Star, 2-Star, and 3-Star.)
[WARNING!]
[AN EXTREMELY LETHAL SUBSTANCE HAS OVERPOWERED YOUR MERIDIANS]
[Calculating substance...]
*Ding* [Substance identified]
[Demonic Mana has entered your meridians. Beware, your body is not able to withstand this mana]
It was hotter than lava, or anything you could possibly imagine. It was a different type of burn, a primordial flame that never seemed to go out. This was the pain of the Demonic Flame--one of the most powerful flames that protected Purgatory.
As the Demonic Mana assaulted Lyrian’s body, the skin on his hands began to crack up like spider webs. They shined in a pitch-black hue that had a slight undertone of purple. His legs were next, and these cracks of skin traveled all the way to the center of his core. His body looked like the surface of a drought. His mouth opened up from the mental shock. However, he couldn’t even exclaim in pain as no sound came out of his mouth. Instead, a black and purple aura exuded out, and the same was the case for his widely opened eyes that faced the ceiling.
[Warning! Demonic Mana has entered your Mana Core]
[A Mana Core at the Genesis Layer 2 can not withstand Demonic Mana]
The Demonic Mana felt like it was exiting and entering his body at all the same time. It was trashing his insides nonstop, and the pain was something that Lyrian had never conceived before. He had gone through many types of pains and had at least fought at them to survive. This one was different, incomparable to the rest. He didn’t stand a chance against it.
[Warning! Your Health is quickly depleting!]
[Health: 124/169]
[Health: 85/169]
[Health: 56/169]
[Health: 33/169]
Even though Gear was trying to communicate with Lyrian during this process, Lyrian was completely out of it. Lyrian’s body would have easily lost full consciousness with even a single tinge of this effect of the Demonic Mana. However, since it was so overwhelming and abrupt, unending and gruesome, Lyrian’s body and mind couldn’t shut off even if they wanted to.
[Health: 11]
[Health: 5...4]
*Ding* [Warning! Your Health has fallen below 5]
[Do you wish to initiate the use of lifeforce?]

[Vitality remaining: 128 Years]
At that moment, a burst of white mana churned out from every crevice and hole of Lyrian’s body. It was a divine sight, one of life-fighting against death. However, the Demonic Mana instantly purged this light and encased Lyrian’s body within the darkness once again.
[Life force deducted: 100 Years]
[Vitality remaining: 28 Years]
This was Gear’s only option to keep Lyrian alive.
[Vitality remaining: 1 Year]

[Demonic Mana will now be absorbed into your core]
With that, Cerberus’ Demonic Mana began to get absorbed into Lyrian’s core. Before, the core was overflowing with it, but instead of absorbing it like with normal mana, it was refusing to do so. Demonic mana was a foreign, forbidden thing. Mana cores were created by the gods to help living beings prosper. Demons had no magic core and would instead use other modes of cultivation to achieve power, so Demonic Mana should have never been in a mana core. Now that it had, however, the Divine Mana intervened and became a middleman, allowing the Demonic Mana to enter Lyrian’s core. And that it with immense speed.
Like he was breaking through several ranks at once, Lyrian’s body began to float up into the sky. Streaks of dark purple and white light burst out from his body and lit up the entire room like a disco ball. As this happened, he broke through the second Layer of Genesis.
*Ding* [Congratulations! You have broken through the Second Layer of the Genesis Rank]
And not long after...
*Ding* [Congratulations! You have broken through the Third Layer of the Genesis Rank]
Lyrian had entered the Ascension Rank almost instantly. By now, the Demonic Mana stopped pouring into his body. Compared to how much Demonic Mana Cerberus had within its soul, this was a measly amount. Although it appeared to be a lot to Lyrian, that was only because Demonic Mana was so powerful and large, that even small amounts seemed incredible. Finally, the last of the Demonic Mana was fully absorbed into his core.
*Ding* [Congratulations! You have broken through the 1-Star Ascension Rank]
With that, all of the mana quickly dispersed throughout his body. His meridians were enlarged and strengthened, and his bones, tendons, ligaments, organs, muscles, and even his nerves all evolved to a new level. All of his injured cells were reinvigorated and revived, healing most of the injuries he got from the Demonic Mana.
This wasn’t some small jump in power. As Lyrian opened his eyes, he could tell that he had ascended through leaps and bounds compared to how powerful he was before. He stopped floating and dropped back onto the ground. His normal senses then returned--the Divine Mana disappearing unbeknownst to Lyrian.
At that moment, he took in a deep breath of pride, "Ugh Thwak!" He suddenly coughed. At that moment he looked down to realize the black, sticky residue that had squeezed out from his pores and covered his entire body. He immediately stood up to bathe himself. This stench was far worse than even a pile of shit. It was like a rotting corpse or something of that sort.
As he stood up, he felt like he almost jumped into the air since his body was so much lighter than before. It was such a fast jump in power that he was a bit unusual about it. Nonetheless, he quickly barged out of his room and ran toward the river stream near the courtyard where he was first dropped off by Dustfey.
At that moment, a smirk appeared on his face as he thought of his next plans,
"Where can I find more Dark Ore?"
