Chapter 72: 72-Strange

Panic struck in beasts heart. Nythereal carried princess Sheana back to the inn. On the way to Ocov, they were met with a similar sight everywhere.

Common beasts, high ranking beasts, the paralysus hadn’t spared any of them in its wake. So when they entered, they were revealed to meet a few beasts awake.

"My sister," Princess Samihita came forward in worry.

"Here," Theren spread over a clean cloak on the table. "Place her here."

"Yes."

She helped Nythereal lower Sheana’s body to the table before she covered her with a clean quilt. freeweɓnøvel.com

Nytherael’s eyes scanned the ground floor of the inn, other than his team, every other beast was on the floor, paralysed and mumbling to themselves in a daze.

"What happened here?"

The other beasts exchanged looks and came to a silent understanding that Theren should fill them in.

"The same thing we assume happened to Princess Sheana," Theren begun. His mind replayed the horror of the precious hour, and it made him wish time could reverse and stop that cursed light from ever showing up in the world. "Earlier, you all noticed the light that took over the dynasty, right?"

Nytherael nodded even though he hadn’t seen the so-called light himself. It was enough for him to guess from beast talk.

"That light revealed things to beasts who stared at it. At first, it looked harmless since it didn’t even hurt the eyes when one looked directly at it. However..." Theren shook his head, they underestimated that light, and some even considered it auspicious, and now thei were suffering.

"Was something wrong with the light?" He asked, seeing as Aeltharion, Aenyra, and Jura had no interest in talking.

"Yes."

Nytherael’s interest was piqued. He hoped they could enlighten him on their findings so he could make sense of the attack and find a means to counter it and rescue Sseraphis.

"Tell me, what did you find?"

"It all looked like nothing even after the light disappeared, but then, one after the other beasts claimed they saw a vision in the light," he let out.

Nytherael’s eyes narrowed, his eyebrows knitted. Sheana had claimed the sane thing right before she fell and got stuck in such a state.

"So whoever saw a vision in the light is being affected. Am I right?"

"Not so," Princess Samahita spoke up. "We all saw visions too, but we are unaffected."

Her words caused Nytherael to blink in confusion. Just when he thought he was catching on to a lead, it was dismissed.

"You all saw visions?!" He wanted to pry and inquire about what they had seen, but since none of them had spoken up about what they had seen, he held back... for the moment.

"Yes, we did," She complied honestly.

"And we discovered that it’s not about seeing the vision. Beasts start falling when they speak of what they saw in the light," Theren added to Samahita’s explanation. "As long as one doesn’t disclose what they saw, they are fine, but the minute that they start talking about it, they collapse and become paralysed."

His body shivered as he recalled watching beasts fall one by one after sharing their visions in excitement or sorrow.

Most saw their success and fortunes while others saw their ruin, all in all, the beasts couldn’t hold back from sharing what they had seen for either ab opportunity to gloat or complain about the horrible vision they saw and it led to their current state.

"As it stands now, we are the only beasts left in Ocov that haven’t fallen," Zeyron finally opened his lips and contributed.

"We searched every house, establishment, and temple. Indeed, no other beasts are awake and moving," Samahita added.

Nytherael frowned. He realized that when Princess Sheana had spoken about seeing a vision, nothing happened to her. It was only after she was provoked by Aenyra’s words that claimed the era of his mate bond had come to and end that she spilled the content of her vision and fell to the ground, becoming paralysed.

"How can that be? I saw in my vision that you are all together and you have a daughter!"

Her words were the trigger that caused her to fall to whatever spell she was under.

"Have you discovered what caused the visions in the light?" He inquired, gathering as much knowledge as possible.

"No. We don’t know where the light came from or who is responsible for this attack!" Theren declared.

"And how come none of you spoke of what you saw in the light?"

Zeyron cast his eyes on Theren’s back. The only reason he was still awake and untouched by the catastrophe striking anyone who spoke about what they saw was because he didn’t wish to give the vision power by putting to words what he saw.

Additionally, he was determined to change that fate before it became his reality. An opportunity was yet to present itself, but he was alert and waiting for Aby opportunity to kill both Samahita and Theren.

He figured that if the two beasts died, fate wouldn’t be cruel to him as to render him a fool in love and forget the seductive beauty of power and wealth.

Theren bit his lip and sealed the secret inside him. He knew the reason he didn’t dare speak of what he saw. How could he?

On one hand, Princess Samahita’s enemies might take advantage of the information and hurt her while on the other hand, it involved Zeyron in an inappropriate way, he doubted the beast would appreciate that so he kept it to himself.

Princess Samahita stares down at her paralysed sister, recalling in her vision how Sheana rose to the peak of fame and glory while she fell from grace. Her heart clenched tightly.

She felt extremely happy to know that Sheana made it to the finish line and succeeded in achieving the prophesy of uniting the free world. She was just saddened by the fact that she’ll never get to stand by her side in her glory.

Her eyes fell on her hands. She could feel the ice circulating beneath her skin. Remembering the hollow feeling of being unable to feel her beast, she didn’t dare answer Nytherael.

As for Nerezza, she was still paralysed by the chilling truth that she was destined to be alone, and in the coming future, she’ll have to bury her beloved. She hadn’t been mentally present throughout the whole conversation.

Only Rhysandor spoke. "I think the light is baised. I didn’t see anything," he let out.

His voice pushed past Nerezza’s paralysis and onto her brain. She raised her eyes and looked at him. ’Did he not see anything because the visions show the future, and he isn’t destined to have one?’ It sadded her deeply.

She wished their role would reverse and allow her to the one without a future. She had loved and lost so many times that she was tired of mourning, but sadly, tears were the only thing written in her fate. frёeweɓηovel.coɱ

"You didn’t see anything?" Nytherael found it puzzling and weirdly comforting because it meant that he didn’t have to worry about his friend becoming paralysed like other beasts. "That is strange."
