Chapter 73: 73-I need food

After freshening up, Nytherael changed into a loose-fitting purple coloured robe that Sseraphis had once gifted him.

With the fabric against his soft skin, he felt a little connected to Sseraphis, and even though it had been a year and a half since he last put it on, he swore it still smelled venomous like his snake.

"Aren’t going to wash?" He asked, approaching Aeltharion in careful steps.

Aeltharion snapped his fingers, and he was instantly changed into white robes, and his hair was let down, neatly combed. The black hair fell on his back like flowing ink. It was beautiful to see, and had the circumstances been different, Nytherael would’ve seized the moment to enjoy the good looks of the dragon.

But alas, he knew that Aeltharion had let his hair down and put on white robes to mourn Sseraphis’ absence. The inaccessibility to Sseraphis’ part of their bond had left a hole in their chests. Only they knew how empty and incomplete they felt.

"Any word from your armies?"

"No."

"Do you fear that they might also have fallen to the attack of the unknown beast that came for Sse..."

"No."

Nytherael pressed his lips into a thin line and breathed out heavily. Aeltharion had become robotic since Sseraphis disappeared. He answered with one word at most, and other times, he just snapped his fingers to action.

Too bad. He couldn’t snap his fingers and summon Sseraphis. They had tried. They tried every array they could think of, engaged in forbidden arts to track Sseraphis down, but it’s like Sseraphis had disappeared from the beast world completely.

"Why don’t I find you something to eat?" He suggested.

He wasn’t hungry an neither was Aeltharion, they were high ranking beasts and could go years without food but eating was distractive and he needed Aeltharion to get out of hid head for a second and focus on reality.

"No."

Nytherael gave up. He took a seat next to him and leaned his head on Aeltharion’s arm, eyes raised to look up at Aeltharion’s forehead.

The ink shaped marks on nine horns on the dragon were growing fainter by the day. The dragon’s complexion was growing paler, losing its colour and valour that made it stand out in crowds.

Nytherael was growing more and more worried. He knew that Sseraphis was treating Aeltharion before he disappeared, but for what the dragon was getting treatment was unknown to him.

He had tried to ask Aeltharion, but the dragon evaded his questions, and when he requested the information from the others. It was futule.

Aenyra used taking care of Sheana to avoid talking to him and Jura teleported back to the underwater palace in search of the Nox which he claimed held the knowledge they needed to fight the unknown beast, "It’s not my secret to tell!" He had shouted as he disappeared into the shadows. frёewebηovel.cѳm

’If no one tells me what’s wrong, how am I supposed to keep you alive until we reunite with Sseraphis?’ He thought. He slid his hand to Aeltharion’s wrist, pretending to be seeking comfort and taking his pulse.

The pulse was weak, barely there, and the heartbeat was slow. As slow as a war-tiger’s heartbeat, but Aeltharion was a dragon, his heartbeat was supposed to sound like a war drum being hit by a thousand beasts.

However, at present, it sounded like a hundred weak and exhausted beasts were hitting the drums. Nytherael’s eyes were full of panic.

He leaned onto Aeltharion, scared of losing both his mates. With Sseraphis gone, taken. Aeltharion was the closest thing to home that he had, and he hated the thought of losing him too.

With Sseraphis, there was hope of finding him because the snake was simply kidnapped but with Aeltharion, he was worried that the place Aeltharion was threatening to go to would destroy him because it was a place he couldn’t reach no matter how badly he’d wish for it.

"We are going to find him. I would stop until we do," he let out.

Knock! Knock! Knock!

The repeated knock made him shoot to his feet and rush out to see who the visitor was. He hoped it was news from one of the nets he’d set out across the continent to find his beloved.

He opened the door eagerly. "Have you found Sseraphis?" He asked.

Then, he raised his head and was taken aback when he spotted the unfamiliar fairy standing outside his door. He glanced at her for a long time, his eyes going up and down her frame, but no matter how much he looked, she was still unfamiliar.

"Who are you?"

The fairy with mismatched colourful eyes, soft golden skin, long blue hair, and dressed in plain white robes stood awkwardly by the door staring at him.

"I asked you a question!" Nythereal said. The fairy smiled, "Won’t you let me inside?" freewēbnoveℓ.com

"No, I won’t. Tell me who you are and what you are doing here!"

"Uhm.." she cleared her throat and looked even more awkward. "Are you sure you don’t want to let me inside?"

Sighing, Nytherael stepped away from the door, opening an opportunity for the fairy to enter.

She didn’t waste any minute and quickly walked in. As she did, she waved her fingers around. A soft blue light emitted from her fingers and travelled to every corner of the room, creating glowing markings on the wall.

"What are you doing?"

"Privacy, we can’t have him hear us," she said, taking a seat comfortably like she was familiar with them.

"Him? Him who?"

"I know him as Hadrian Lork," the fairy said, a name that Nytherael had never had before.

"Who’s that?"

"The abomination the beastworld created a thousand years ago," the fairy spoke, her voice serious and stern. "I was awakened the minute his power was seen in the world again. I’ve searched every dynasty for any breathing beast that survived him and spotted your group here. I noticed the beasts in this room ranked higher than the others, so I approached you."

"That doesn’t answer my question about who you are," Nytherael folded his hands. He stared suspiciously at the fairy.

It seemed too much a coincidence that the fairy appeared from nowhere and seemed to know the unknown beast that attacked them when they’d searched for any sign of an unaffected person and failed to find one too.

Only they were left standing. The rest of the beasts and their clans were paralysed. He couldn’t help but be sceptical of the fairy.

"I have been known by many names, one that is the most popular is Zarathia," she introduced.

Nytherael froze. He stared at her again and again, the image slowly coming to him. He reached into his space and retrieved a book that entails tales of his ancestral lineage dating back two thousand years and as expected, he found the famous name, Zarathia and an illustration that matched the fairy before him perfectly.

Zarathia was known across the beastworld as the first female nine-tailed fox to ever exist. She had been unmatched until the battle against the demonic beast nation of mixbreeds that threatened the safety of the beastworld, where she vanished after defeating... Nytherael’s eyes opened wide as he read the name of the beast his ancestor tool down, Hadrian Lork.

"I need food. I can’t process this on an empty stomach," he let out, stunned.
