Chapter 71: 71-The escape
The class between the memories in his head, the confusion between what is real and what isn’t made Sseraphis’ brain snap.
At the end, he didn’t find comfort in his bond with either partners. His mind took him back to his empty home as a teenager after his mother left him.
Sseraphis sat in the empty house, eyes red, dry and swollen from crying for so long. "Please... Please come back. Don’t leave me," he muttered over and over again. Everything was falling apart and every beast he knew seemed to be deserting him. "Please... I’ll be good, I promise."
Outside, Nytherael and Aeltharion kept staring at each other, getting deeper and deeper into their past.
Just when they thought their bond was working to fix everything, the thread snapped. The bubble popped and the two of them fell to the ground.
"Ugh!" Nytherael groaned.
Aeltharion picked himself up like nothing happened, he blinked, cleared the fog in his eyes and stared up to catch Sseraphis’ body, to his surprise, Sseraphis’ body was missing.
"Where is Venom?"
His inquiry pulled Nytherael to ignore the slight pain on his knees and look up. He wasn’t the only one taken aback by Sseraphis’ disappearance. Aenyra and Sheana were equally confused.
"Where did he go?"
The searched the underwater palace inside out and found nothing that gave any clues about where Sseraphis’ could’ve gone.
"Didn’t any of you notice anything? You were in the room the whole time?" Nytherael questioned Jura, Sheana and Aenyra.
"I was a little busy searching for the Nox and if you haven’t noticed, I can’t see," Jura replied.
"I had my eyes on you the whole time and didn’t see anything out of the ordinary. Then the bubble exploded and the two of you fell out, while Sseraphis went missing. I didn’t see anything," she came clean. "What about you Sheana. Did you see anything?"
Princess Sheana went silent. She had gotten lost in the vision she saw and afterwards, her mind drifted off into her daydreams. She started planning the many ways to shamelessly chase Aenyra until the dragoness accepted her feelings that she hadn’t noticed anything until the light faded.
Even if something happened, she was the last person who’d know. "I admit, I was lost in the vision I caught in the light," she confessed.
"Vision?" They all turned to her, confused about what she was going on about.
Sheana nodded. "You must have seen it too, right?" She asked Aenyra, as the dragoness was outside of the bubble like her, she figured that Aenyra saw it as well.
"What are you talking about?" Aenyra narrowed her eyes suspiciously at Sheana. "What did you see?"
Princess Sheana turned to Jura. "What about you? Don’t tell me that you didn’t catch a glimpse of the future in that light?"
Jura shrugged. "Do I need to write ’i can’t see’ on my forehead for you beasts to finally grasp the fact that these eyes don’t see what your normal eyes se..." He stopped.
He’d been focused on searching for Sseraphis’ essense that it hadn’t occured to him to look for anything else. He opened his eyes and scanned the surrounding areas for the same black energy he’d sensed on Sseraphis’.
To his astonishment, the whole palace seemed enveloped in the black energy. He quickly turned to Nytherael and Aeltharion, "Quick, take me to the surface!"
Nytherael used his shadow teleportation to transport them to the surface. The sight that greeted Jura’s eyes made his heart stop beating.
All across the skies and the earth and ground beneath their feet, there was the tri-soul essense but it was covered in black energy that seemed to almost consume the purity of the tri-soul bond.
"I mentioned earlier that the beast that attacker Sseraphis was forcing a bond on Sseraphis’ heart. I’m afraid you made it worse by activating your bond while his hadn’t been cut off yet," he said, his face looking grim. "I am afraid that not only has your little display of your bond not helped Sseraphis regain himself but it helped that unknown beast sever Sseraphis’ feel of your bond and allowed him to escape with Sseraphis."
"What?"
"He took Sseraphis," Jura repeated.
"How can that be?" Nytherael asked, "We were all right there, how did we not notice him?"
"You two were lost in each other, Sheana was lost in whatever she calls the visions, I was busy searching for the Nox..."
"Even if that is the case," Aeltharion interrupted him. "Aenyra said she watched everything without blinking and didn’t see anything."
"She’s still weak and has been affected by the black energy the attacker seems to use. Even if the beast came before her, I doubt she’d be able to place him," Jura quickly dismissed Aenyra as a valuable witness.
Because the fact didn’t change. The beast had managed to stealthily take Sseraphis, taking advantage of the open link in the tri-soul bond and sealed off the thread that leads to Sseraphis.
It meant that neither Nytherael nor Aeltharion could track Sseraphis down and the longer Sseraphis stayed gone and detached from them, who knew what damage that might do to his head.
The next time they meet him, he might be far gone to be brought back. Jura ran his hand over his hair and ruffled it.
The black energy was everywhere, it had taken advantage of the explosion of the tri-soul bond to mask itself. It was impossible to tell in which direction the beast disappeared to.
The surface, the underworld and the skies were filled with his essense and Jura guessed that the beast must’ve used the visions to distract every beast to avoid getting noticed as he escaped.
’Brilliant!’ he complimented the beast even though it meant that finding Sseraphis was close to impossible.
Nytherael squatted down to the ground. He closed his eyes and focused on his connection to Sseraphis, their bond had led him to the underwater palace, he hoped it would lead him to where the male was.
He tried time and time again but he could neither feel his connection to Sseraphis nor get through to the snake, it was as though that part of the bond didn’t exist.
"I felt a thread snap when the bubble pop. Was that our mate bond that came undone?" He addressed Jura, eyes moistening as he bit his lip to hd back from crying.
"No,it wasn’t," Jura let out. "The beast that attacker Sseraphis must’ve kept you under the daze of your past just enough to clear a path for his escape and that snap must’ve been his technique coming undone." freewёbnoνel.com
Aeltharion stared at the skies, he was the only one who had noticed that one moon was missing from the skies. Only two were left and they shone so weakly as though they too were ready to disappear at any moment.
"Is that in any way connected to what happened?" He pointed upwards, alerting the others to the shocking sight.
Nytherael went pale. The three moons weren’t just celestial creation in the sky every night, they were a symbol of his union to his partners and seeing one moon missing, he felt as though a piece of his marriage had been broken off.
"How can that be?"
"I’m afraid the era of the rare tri-soul bond might be coming to an end," Aenyra whispered.
"How can that be? I saw in my vision that you are all together and you have a daughter," she spat out without thinking.
"What?"
All eyes fell on her and the next second, Sheana fell to the ground, body paralyzed in the position she fell in, like a statue.
"When I become a mother, I want a daughter as beautiful as her," she mumbled. "When I become a mother, I want a daughter as beautiful as her," she continued, over and over again without stopping.
Only her mouth moved while the rest of her body was frozen in place.
"..."
Nytherael, Aeltharion, Aenyra and Jura were too stunned to react. They had never seen anything like it.
