Chapter 5: Mr. Corvus

The entire estate of Celestial Star Chamber of Commerce was like a small town with east, west, south, and north pavilions with mix of different architecture. And within the centre of the eastern pavilion was the biggest and most majestic tower-like building.

Inside that grand building, a servant hurried through a series of corridors before stopping at a quiet room.

"Master," he said respectfully as he stepped inside, "somebody outside came to meet you and brought this with him." And then a servant quickly takes out the crimson pendant.

The room was vast and lavishly decorated. Extravagant chandeliers hung from the ceiling, filled with crafted crystals and luxurious furnishings.

At the center of it all sat a man who appeared to be in his thirties, with white skin and a handsome face, seated upon a chair inlaid with precious jewels. His posture was relaxed and bit lazy, yet he seemed to radiate an aura of extraordinariness. ƒrēewebnovel.com

"Hmm." The moment he saw the crimson pendant, his eyes seemed to glow brightly, and he quickly took the pendant.

"Indeed, it’s that one." He murmured, holding the pendant.

"Let’s go and meet him." And after that he went out, followed by the servant as they made their way towards the entrance.

Max waited patiently outside; he believed Mr. Corvus would come, but still he felt a bit anxious as he really needed the Celestial Star Chamber of Commerce help.

As with every second, he started to feel uneasy.

Then—

"It’s really you... kid."

The voice reached his ears, calm yet carrying a hint of surprise.

Max looked up instantly.

At the entrance of the chamber, Mr. Corvus stepped out, his presence composed and steady as his gaze settled directly on Max. He tried to feel the strength of Mr. Corvus, but something seemed to stop his superhuman senses; he even seemed to be unable to exactly feel the blood flow within him.

But he was sure Mr. Corvus was definitely extraordinary and maybe the only option for him.

"Hello, Mr. Corvus." Max, seeing Mr. Corvus, came out finally with a sigh of relief. Since he came, it means Corvus was still interested, and it’s all that matters.

He knew his pendant must be extraordinary to catch the eye of Mr. Corvus, but it didn’t matter as he didn’t know much about it or have the luxury to find out more about it. He wanted to survive, and only if he survived would he be able to find out about himself.

"What do you want, kid?" Mr. Corvus asked, as he knew it had to be some reason for him to come here with the pendant when he previously declined.

Max didn’t beat around the bush and quickly told him what he wanted, "Mr. Corvus, I wanted to leave the city silently."

He chose not to hide his intentions. There was no point.

If he merely asked to travel with a caravan, someone as perceptive as Corvus would immediately sense that he was trying to flee. Worse, misunderstandings or unexpected betrayals could arise during the journey if his true purpose remained hidden.

And he also believes at least Mr. Corvus has some integrity, as the man clearly interested in the crimson pendant never tried to take it by force.

"Oh." Mr. Corvus remained silent, and he seemed to figure out things.

"Alright." He didn’t ask more, though he can guess that Max might have messed with someone he shouldn’t or gotten caught in some trouble. Even if it was related to nobles, he wasn’t afraid, so he agreed.

Come inside," he said calmly. "I’ll arrange a way for you to leave the city."

Then he leaned slightly toward the servant beside him and quietly muttered a few instructions. freewёbnoνel.com

The servant immediately nodded and hurried away.

Max silently followed Mr. Corvus into the Chamber of Commerce, his tense nerves easing slightly for the first time since awakening in this world.

While he was thinking about whether he would be able to survive or not, Mr. Corvus was looking at him, which he didn’t notice due to his anxiousness.

Mr. Corvus’s eyes seemed to glow for a fraction of a second, and then a surprised expression appeared on his face, which he quickly hid.

But deep within, his thoughts seemed to be changed, and a different idea came to his mind.

They came to a well-decorated and a bit extravagant hall with expensive furniture.

"Come, sit," Mr. Corvus said, gesturing toward a seat. "Let’s talk."

Max sat down slowly.

Yet as he looked at Corvus, a strange feeling surfaced in his heart. Something about the man’s attitude seemed... different now.

Subtly different.

Max couldn’t tell whether it was real or merely his imagination, but his instincts told him that something had changed the moment Corvus looked at him.

"You have awakened your bloodline." Mr. Corvus sat and calmly said, throwing the bomb like it was nothing.

"What?" Max’s eyes widened in shock as his greatest secret was just seen through just like that.

His face changed, and he couldn’t help but look nervously towards Mr. Corvus, trying to figure out what he wanted to do.

"Don’t worry, relax," Mr. Corvus said as he saw Max’s pale face. "It’s a good thing. Do you know how many people from prestigious families to strong noble families try to awaken but aren’t able to throughout their lifetime?"

"This..." Hearing this, he calmed down and looked at Mr. Corvus with expectation to know more. He knew almost nothing about bloodline awakening or the mysterious powers of this world. If he could learn more from Mr. Corvus, it would greatly help him understand exactly where he stood now... and what kind of future awaited him.

"Can Mr. Corvus tell me more about awakening and other mysterious powers of nobles?" He asked politely.

"Tch, you are really something. You didn’t know anything, yet you achieved that many noble dreams."

"Alright, then let me tell you what I know about." Mr. Corvus smiled and quickly started to tell.

"The awakening can be of two types usually; the first is bloodline awakening which I assume you have awakened."

"Bloodline Awakening is a phenomenon where someone awakens the ancestral power hidden within their blood. That is why most awakened individuals come from noble families. To them, it is a form of inheritance passed down through generations."

And through the strength of those bloodlines, noble families maintain their status—remaining far above ordinary people. And control their lives with devastating power."
