Chapter 6: Bloodline Ranks
"Bloodlines can be weak or strong depending upon their kind and quality. They are usually divided into six ranks."
He raised a finger as he spoke.
"From weakest to strongest: E-rank, D-rank, C-rank, B-rank, A-rank... and finally, the highest of them all—S-rank."
His voice was calm, but then he became serious as he said the next words. "Even among nobles there are very, very few families with high-ranking bloodlines above B rank."
Hearing this, Max’s eyes glowed a bit as he remembered his blood dragon bloodline seems to belong to ’S rank’ according to the system panel. Although he cannot be sure the system’s ranking represented the same rank outside, he still feels excited deep within.
"Is it really rare for people to have a bloodline above B rank?" He asked.
"Hmn, you may not understand, as you just awakened and didn’t know the weight of a high-ranking bloodline, but let me tell you that within the entire Black Iron City, with a population over three hundred thousand, there are only five noble families, and they mostly have E or D-rank bloodlines."
"And only the Blackthorn family is a little better, with C-rank blood flowing in their veins." Mr. Corvus answered, letting Max know how rare high-ranking bloodlines are.
Max’s heart shook slightly upon hearing that.
A mere C Rank bloodline was enough to dominate an entire city. Then what would an S-rank represent?
He quickly suppressed the excitement rising within him. He felt his chances increased.
"C rank..." Max muttered before looking toward Corvus again. "What kind of bloodline does the Blackthorn family possess, and what is its ability?" He quickly asked, but this seemed to reveal his eagerness, which naturally Mr. Corvus noticed.
Mr. Corvus’s expression shifted subtly.
Realizing his mistake, Max immediately regained his composure.
"Ah... sorry," he said with an awkward smile. "I got a little excited."
Mr. Corvus seemed to guess something, but he didn’t say or ask and continued. "Blackthorn family is the strongest noble family in Black Iron City because they have a C-rank bloodline. Their bloodline seemed to come from the Iron Thorn Beast, and after awakening, it is said to have made them extremely strong and durable in combat."
"They can be said to be impervious to most ordinary mortal weapons like swords or spears. So, in early stages they can be considered quite strong."
After telling this, he looked at Max, who seemed to have started thinking.
"Will my blood bullet be able to pierce through their defenses?"
"Alright, that’s for bloodline awakeners," Corvus continued. "Bloodline awakening is mostly simple and direct, but the second type of awakeners is the most troublesome, so listen carefully." His tone became serious.
Hearing this, Max snapped back and listened carefully.
"The second is spiritual awakening, which is far more mysterious and filled with numerous variables that we still don’t know much about."
"There are countless theories regarding how it occurs. Some believe intense emotional trauma or mental shock can trigger it. Others think it is related to possessing an extraordinary soul, an abnormal mind, or even overwhelming negative or positive emotions."
"But the truth is..."
"No one fully understands it."
"That uncertainty is precisely why Spiritual Awakeners are so rare."
Mr. Corvus’s gaze sharpened slightly.
"They were so rare that it was said of one hundred or even a thousand awakened individuals, only one might awaken as a spiritual awakener."
"Their strength is also as terrifying as rare they are. Only the top bloodline of A rank or S rank can face them."
Max’s eyes glimmered faintly.
If his Blood Dragon bloodline truly was S Rank, then theoretically... He should be capable of facing spiritual awakeners.
Corvus noticed that Max seemed to be quite confident in himself and couldn’t help but say more, "Kid, let me tell you, if you ever face a spiritual awakener, never try to face them, as you wouldn’t even know how you died."
Max nodded, but his thoughts now were on how to survive; only then can he have a chance to meet the spiritual awakener.
Then a servant came in. "Master, it’s done. They are waiting outside."
"Okay, you can leave." Mr. Corvus stood up and then looked at Max. "Let’s go and meet the people you’ll be leaving with."
Max nodded and quickly followed and hoped they were easy to get along with. He didn’t have time to deal with messy class problems.
They came outside where two tall guys, one with a sword and the other with a spear, were waiting. Both of them were above six feet and had muscular bodies and fierce auras. The aura around them was a bit different from anyone he had seen.
They weren’t like the guards outside the chamber of commerce whose aura was kind of impure. He felt their bodies were filled with power, and their blood seemed to be full of energy, but even then he still didn’t feel danger from them.
"They are Andrew and Mathew, also called ’sword and spear brothers,’" Corvus quickly introduced them.
"Hello," Max greeted calmly while observing them carefully.
At the same time, the Sword and Spear Brothers were also sizing him up. frёewebnoѵēl.com
For several silent seconds, both sides studied one another, each trying to understand exactly what kind of person stood before them.
"Mr. Corvus, you called us." "Andrew, the brother with the sword," asked breaking the silence.
"Hmm, yes. I wanted you two to lead the caravan that was going to Sea Trident City today right now." Mr. Corvus answered.
"Today!" Both of them were a bit surprised, as the caravan was supposed to depart tomorrow, but suddenly Mr. Corvus wanted us to leave immediately. They were a bit confused, but they weren’t idiots, so they immediately guessed it must have to do with the kid standing right in front of them.
Corvus continued, "And along with you, here Max will be joining."
Both of them were a bit doubtful, but after a moment of hesitation they nodded. "Understood, Mr. Corvus," one of them replied. "We can depart within an hour."
