Chapter 4: Celestial Star Chamber Of Commerce

Seeing this, Max stopped. "Tell me." He asked, but his voice was still cold.

In fact, he wanted to make herold feel despair which he previously felt when they beat him but he needed know first if there is any other who kept eye on him.

Herold didn’t hold on and immediately answered. "I don’t know much; I was just following the gang leader’s order. I just know that someone from the noble house of Blackthorn asked the leader to monitor you and nothing else."

"Noble House of Blackthorn!"

Hearing this, Max’s expression changed as he knew what kind of power Blackthorn represented here.

The city he was in—Black Iron City—owed its name to the rich deposits of black iron buried beneath it. And those mines... were controlled entirely by the Blackthorn family.

Although the Black Iron City wasn’t a big city, there still were a few minor noble families within the city, but they were nothing compared to the Blackthorn family. They were the true uncrowned ruler of this city.

’He had to leave.’ It was the only thought left within his mind; otherwise, even with his newly awakened bloodline power, he might not survive.

"Are you sure there isn’t anyone beside you?" He asked as he put his hand on Herold’s shoulder and slowly crushed his shoulder bone.

"No, there shouldn’t be. I... I didn’t hear of anyone else." Herold quickly said in agony. He was crying as the pain of the bone being crushed was excruciating, and it seems he wasn’t much of the tough guy he appeared to be.

Max felt he was saying the truth, and he should not know more as he was just a street thug.

On the other hand, Herold felt he was saved as Max moved his hand from his shoulders, but his happiness disappeared quickly.

Crack! Crack!

"Aaahh!" Suddenly, Herold roared in agony before he could understand.

As Max immediately crushed Herold’s hands and broke his legs with lightning speed. He still couldn’t bring himself to outright kill him, or, importantly, he felt killing directly would make it an easier way out for the guys like them.

He made him completely disabled; even moving will be difficult for him, let alone mess with anyone. Not to mention, when a street thug like him loses his strength, there would be many people who would want to give him a taste of what he did.

Herold fell down paralysed as he didn’t have strength to move even make noise.

Max only glanced at Herold for a second and then silently left the alley. He didn’t have time; he needed to leave the Black Iron City.

But it wasn’t going to be easy, as the guards of the Blackthorn family strictly control the incoming and ongoing of people.

Still he had a plan, and if it was successful, he might be able to leave the city without trouble.

He went through the old streets cautiously, hoping nobody else would come following him, as he wasn’t sure if anyone else was keeping an eye on him.

After some time, he finally arrived at his destination.

A large hall belonging to the ’Celestial Star Chamber of Commerce.’

Caravans constantly came and went from this place—merchants, guards, travelers... a perfect cover for someone trying to disappear.

Max stopped in front of the entrance, his eyes steady.

This was his way out.

Just he was about to step in, two guards came out and stopped him, " Stop."

Max stopped, and deep down he felt surprised. But he wasn’t surprised because he was stopped, rather because he felt something new from the two guards.

"This?" He was confused as his senses were sharper than humans’; he felt something different about the guards. Not only that, but after he awakened his bloodline and ability to control his blood, he became extremely sensitive to the blood.

He could sense it. fɾeeweɓnѳveɭ.com

Feel it. Even vaguely judge a person’s strength through the flow of their blood.

And now...

The blood within these two guards felt different. Not like ordinary humans. But not quite like his own either.

Something... in between.

The strength of these two was definitely beyond ordinary people, but he had a feeling he should be better. But what matters is he already made contact with the people who also had mysterious power.

He was now sure with the help of the Celestial Star Chamber of Commerce he should be able to leave the city.

"Who are you? What do you want?" One of the guards asked.

Max quickly snapped out of his thoughts.

He knew he could not just walk in. Fortunately, he wasn’t entirely without connections.

From the fragmented memories he had inherited, he recalled someone—a man within the Celestial Star Chamber of Commerce.

If not for that connection, he wouldn’t have come here in the first place.

"Hello, brother, I wanted to meet with Mr. Corvus. Could you please tell Mr. Corvus that Max has come to meet him." Max said politely.

The guards exchanged a brief glance.

"Mr. Corvus!"

Hearing whom he wanted to meet seems to have surprised the guards. His clothes were old and even torn from some places. It was clear he was a peasant and nothing more.

"You peasant, how can someone like you know Mr. Corvus? Are you trying to mess with us?" The guard shouted at him with anger. ƒreewebηoveℓ.com

Seeing such a reaction, Max was a bit surprised, as even he didn’t know what kind of status Mr. Corvus had within the chamber of commerce. But such a reaction means he must be an important person with high status.

He wasn’t angry by the guard’s words, as he was kind of right; peasants like him generally don’t have such connections, but luckily he does.

Without another word, he reached into his clothes and pulled out a crimson pendant.

"Take this," he said, holding it out. "Show it to Mr. Corvus. He’ll understand who has come to meet him."

The guard hesitated for a moment, but the pendant looked quite extraordinary, not like something a peasant can have, so he agreed.

"Alright, wait here." And then one of the guards took the pendant and went inside to find Mr. Corvus.
