Chapter 3: Revenge
"That bitch was too good; she almost sucked me dry."
"Haha, she wasn’t special, but you are too weak; your body cannot handle a bit of hard work."
"Yes, you are weak; from now on, I will handle those bitches for you."
Three thugs approached, laughing and talking as they stopped right in front of Max’s shabby place.
"We’re here... do you think he’s still unconscious?" one of them muttered. He was thin, with a crooked, unpleasant face.
"What if he’s already dead?" The shorter one said with tense expression as he remembered they did roughen up Max a bit more yesterday.
"Shut the fuck up," the last one with the sharpest aura snapped, his expression turning harsh. "If he’s dead, we’re the ones who are finished."
Their laughter faded, replaced by a tense silence. They were told to keep an eye on Max and not let him leave. If something really happened to him because of them, they all will be fed to the dogs.
Max, within his home, naturally heard everything clearly.
It was clear they were here for him and they had to catch him alive. He knew he had to leave.
"Max bastard! Open the door; don’t make us wait." The thin thug banged on the old wooden door, his voice loud and impatient as the fragile frame rattled under the force.
Max at the moment was calm and wasn’t much anxious like before. He now had the power to save his life, and this group of thugs was nothing to him. But he needed to be careful; if he attacked these thugs right here, others would notice.
And if the noble power caught the wind of it, he might not be able to leave. So, he had to take these three somewhere else.
He then first took out a box from under the old table and opened it. Within it have some coins and a small pendant with a small crimson gem embedded.
The moment he touched the pendant, "Ahh."
He felt the pendant glow for a moment, but nothing happened after, so he, along with the coins, took it away.
He already had a plan in his mind, and with that he opened the door.
The moment the door creaked apart and they saw him standing there, the three thugs visibly relaxed, letting out a breath of relief.
But that relief lasted only a second.
Their expressions twisted almost immediately.
Seeing Max standing there, seemingly unharmed and able to move freely, irritation and anger surged through them. They were feeling anxious and almost shitting their pants, but seeing Max perfectly fine, three of them wanted to release their frustration.
"Looks like you didn’t learn your lesson yesterday... How dare you look us in the eyes?"
One of them cracked his knuckles, a cruel grin spreading across his face as they stepped forward, ready to beat him again.
"Come with us." One of them said and pulled Max outside his house.
Max’s eyes glowed fiercely for a second, but he maintained his weak persona and, like a weak peasant, followed them.
They dragged him through the street and into a deserted alley, far from any eyes.
Perfect.
"Bastard," the thin thug spat, unable to hold himself back any longer. "Let me teach you some manners—"
He raised his fist, ready to strike. And then he punched towards Max’s face.
Max, who just appeared to be trembling in fear, seemed to suddenly change. His aura seemed to suddenly become oppressive, and his eyes became cold and calm.
The movements of the thugs right in front of him appeared to slow down. And he just with a simple step evaded the punch.
"What?"
The thin thug was surprised as weak Max suddenly dodged his punch.
"You trash." Anger flared as he again attacked; this time he was serious and punched with all his strength. He wanted to let Max understand his place.
Slap!
A blur flashed past his vision. freewёbn૦νeɭ.com
Max’s hand moved faster than he could perceive.
In the next instant, a crushing force slammed into his cheek—as if he had been struck by a brick. His body spun violently, flipping through the air before crashing onto the ground.
His body remained motionless, lying there, not knowing whether he was alive or not.
"This!" The remaining two thugs were shocked and couldn’t believe what just happened. It was just too fast.
What they saw was a bit bizarre, as they have many times messed with Max, but suddenly he seemed to have changed. Although he was just standing right in front of them, they felt an invisible pressure, making them feel weak and powerless.
"What... are you doing?" The short thug stuttered as his legs were trembling.
Max smiled coldly, "Naturally, letting you taste what you had done to me."
The leader of the thugs, Herold, appeared calm, but he was sweating beneath it as he was someone who felt something similar before.
’This pressure...’
It was exactly the same as what he had once felt in the presence of the noble. He was certain of it—he could never forget that overwhelming sensation.
But now...
He was feeling it from Max.
From the very same ’trash’ they had beaten and tortured countless times.
But before he could think any further, Max vanished.
In the next instant—
Bang!
The remaining thug was slammed into the ground with terrifying force, all his bones broke instantly, destroying even hope of standing again.
Only he remained.
Standing face to face with Max.
"Let’s talk, Herold," Max said calmly, his gaze steady and emotionless.
A chill ran down Herold’s spine.
Herold was now definitely sure something shocking must have happened with Max. This kind of power wasn’t something low-life peasants could possess.
Although he was a thug, he wasn’t an idiot, and he naturally heard about mysterious power and abilities that nobles have.
"Yes... yes, let’s talk. We don’t have to fight." Herold quickly came to his senses and spoke tremblingly.
"Tch... now you’re obedient." freewebnøvel.com
A faint, almost sinister smile curved across Max’s lips.
"Tell me," he said quietly, his voice turning cold, "who ordered you to keep an eye on me? And is there anyone else watching me?"
He then placed his hand on Herold’s shoulder, and instantly Herold felt he was crushed by a boulder; his legs were shaking, and the noise of bone cracking could be heard.
"Aaah! This..." Herold hesitated for a moment, but with the terrifying aura from Max and the pain of being crushed, he finally could not hold on.
"I will tell you... stop it! I cannot take it anymore."
