Chapter 23: Killing Intent

Max looked at Cassian, who appeared to be completely relaxed and confident. And he should be, as he knows he was facing a newly awakened peasant who didn’t have any training at all.

But he was going to bite this confident face off and show him never to dare to underestimate a desperate man who is going to any lengths to survive.

He then calmed down and thought of what he could do in this duel.

He quickly analyzed the situation. Since Cassian belonged to the Blackthorn family, he almost certainly possessed the same C-rank iron thorn bloodline known for its terrifying defence and strength.

Judging from the terrifying blood energy radiating from Cassian’s body... Max doubted he could pierce that iron-like defence with his spear alone.

Even if he poured all of his strength into a single thrust... It probably wouldn’t be enough. ƒгeeweɓn૦vel.com

But he had a blood bullet if he poured enough blood and compressed it to his limits. Then perhaps... even that seemingly invincible defence could be pierced.

"Then let’s begin." Cassian stood proudly, and then his aura seemed to change, and terrifying invisible pressure seemed to crush Max.

Max remains standing in such terrifying, mountain-like pressure. His expression was a bit pale as he felt the difference might be greater than he imagined. But he wasn’t going to stop because of this.

He didn’t waste time; he wanted to see Cassian’s power first. He used blood control to boost his strength and throw the spear with all his might.

The spear, like a divine wrath tearing through the wind, created shock waves and came directly to Cassian.

Sccch!

Everyone was surprised by the sudden attack of Max, but what truly shocked them was the speed and power of the flying spear. It was so fast; the moment they noticed this, it already had reached Cassian.

Cassian’s face also showed a bit of a surprised expression seeing the raw power in that single spear throw, but that was it for him.

He calmly raised one hand.

Bang!

A deafening explosion rang through the forest. A violent gust of wind swept across the battlefield, and the spear stopped.

Completely.

Its tip rested firmly within Cassian’s open palm. Not even an inch closer while Cassian stood exactly where he had been.

Unmoved.

Unshaken.

He had caught the spear with one hand... effortlessly.

"That’s it? Your strength certainly isn’t bad, but if that’s all you have, you wouldn’t be able to kill Ace."

"Come, use your best means; otherwise this duel is meaningless." Cassian said proudly and then threw the spear back.

Screech!

The spear shot forward even faster than when Max had thrown it. Its terrifying speed distorted the air.

Max’s pupil shrank as he barely avoided the spear at the very last moment.

Boom!

The spear that passed him slammed into the massive boulder behind him. The impact sounded like an exploding cannon. Cracks instantly spread across the enormous rock.

The entire boulder then trembled before chunks of stone rained onto the ground.

Max looked behind in shock at the power of the spear. Such raw strength clearly surpassed him by a large margin.

He looked at Cassian; he knew he could not hold back anything. He immediately raised his hand, ready to use his blood bullet, and blood started to gather at his fingertip.

Against someone like Cassian, close combat would be suicide. Previously he fought in close quarters because he was able to overwhelm others with his superior physique and speed even though he was a novice.

But Cassian was different. He was stronger, faster, more experienced and far better trained. It will be suicide if he faces Cassian in that area.

His only advantage seems to be range, and he can only use his Blood Bullets to maintain distance and attack Cassian.

"Young master Cassian, be careful!" Sol, seeing Max raise his hand, shouted as he himself got caught by surprise by it and had to pay with severe injuries.

Cassian eyes glowed sharply as he heard the bang.

Bang! Bang!

Max used blood bullets; he didn’t use more blood than usual, as these shots were for testing Cassian’s defences.

The speed of blood bullets was high, and Cassian felt it was dangerous, and instinctively he used his bloodline ability. Instantly his body seemed to turn into black iron.

Clang! Clang!

The Blood Bullets struck directly.

The collision rang through the mountains like iron gates being struck by siege cannons, and the powerful impact forced Cassian a few steps. freeweɓnovel.cøm

Dust rose beneath his feet.

When the smoke settled... But it was clear he wasn’t injured. However, he was truly surprised, as the power of this attack was very surprising. Those at the peak of the awakened realm and without a defensive bloodline wouldn’t be able to take it at all.

His gaze settled on Max.

’Blood manipulation... A bloodline capable of controlling blood...’

A possibility crossed his mind.

’Could he possess a vampire bloodline?’

Vampires were among the races most famous for manipulating blood.

But almost immediately, Cassian dismissed the idea.

’Impossible.’

Vampires are an ancient race and did not awaken like humans. And most of the so-called vampires that roamed the world were created when a true elder vampire bestowed its blood upon another. They at best can be half-breeds, not true vampires.

Once aa human is transformed... They ceased to be truly human.

And their aura is completely different; they were completely transformed into a different race and would lose their identity as humans, and Max, right ahead, clearly was a human, so it was impossible.

Whatever bloodline he possessed... It wasn’t a vampire bloodline.

Which only made him even more curious. But also he felt the power was terrifying; at least it should have surpassed half-breed vampires whose power is between D and C-rank bloodline.

His expression darkened. It means Max, a lowly peasant, seemed to have awakened a B-rank bloodline or even possibly awakened an A-rank bloodline.

The thought alone made jealousy surge within him.

’A filthy peasant... Someone born in the slums... How could someone like him awaken a bloodline superior to mine?’

His eyes slowly turned cold. A genuine killing intent emerged in Cassian’s heart.
